Love this! My parents are Lao but me and my brother were born and grew up in the UK where we were bought up on this food. Makes me miss my mums food so much! I've never had or heard of Khao Jee before in the way in your video. To me Khao Jee is Lao for 'bread'
@phetindra82164 жыл бұрын
In Laos you can have it everywhere in some street stalls, but only grilled on open fire. Khao Jee has two meanings, Khao - rice / Jee - grill, and "bread". I had never seen fried ones like these. Should be Khao Jeune then...

This vid brings back memories of childhood! My aunt would always make Khao Jee and Nam Khao for the Fourth of July. Family parties aren't complete without Thum Mak Hoong. My grandma makes Gaeng Nor Mai at least once a month, but I don't like bamboo shoots, so I usually don't eat it. I haven't tried Larb Diip, but it sounds interesting. Is Thom Khem similar to Gai Palo? My family is ethnically Chinese, but my parents and grandparents lived in Laos and Thailand before coming to the states, so I get my foods and cultures mixed up sometimes.
