0:44 I love the 8-bit section here. I think it's important to realize that back in 2001 when Melee was released, this was the first time this theme was heard again in a video game. So to hear it in its pure, original form here at 0:44 probably took a lot of players back to their childhood when they played Metroid on the NES back in the late 80s for the first time, and hearing it seamlessly go back to the modern instrumentation at 0:57 makes that time feel like a distant, fading memory.

Ridley’s visual designs from Super Metroid onwards looks exactly like the Xenomorph’s, aside from the head and added wings. He even uses his tail to attack in the same way. 2.) The titular Metroids start out as larval forms, which hatch out of eggs and latch onto their prey, like Facehuggers. Later on, they can metamorphose into insect/reptile-like forms, and a few of them can become egg-laying queens. 3.) The Chozo statues resemble the fossilized “Space Jockey” from the first alien. 4.) A few other environments bear similarities with those from the Alien franchise, such as the Frigate Orpheon and Splinter Hive.

This arrangement is just dripping with atmosphere-- Literally! Somehow, they actually made the digital instruments _sound_ like dripping water in a cave, complete with an faint, in-human sounding wail just at the edge of hearing... and a faint chime or gong, as if to sound off the impending doom you're intended to feel. There's just so much depth and subtle nuance to this and many other Melee songs.

Always chose this stage just to hear this song. I know my friends hated it because of Kraid spinning the stage. My little brother was an above average player like me so we could spend a decent time with 3 stocks on this stage and no items of course. Always will go back to play Melee whenever my brother and I get a chance. There's not many local tournaments over in my area anymore, so our days have gone behind us. Still fun to hop on some Dolphin Netplay and fuck some people up once in awhile though. Even when my brother and I go back to fight each other. We're still using the AT we learned years ago and kicking each other's asses with the insane combos.

What's insane about this is that this rendition of 'Kraid's Lair' captures the horror atmosphere that Metroid should have miles better than any Metroid game that actually exists. Pretty ironic since this amazing version is from Smash Bros Melee, not a Metroid game. It's frustrating because I'm sure that we'll never get a Metroid game that will manage to evoke an alien-horror vibe as well as this remix does.
