I did this trip years ago. It was probably the most uncomfortable and crime ridden train trip I’ve ever taken in my life. It was overnight. We slept in upright chairs with hardly any padding. We kept being woken up by people yelling that someone had stolen their bag. People were getting off at the previous station and taking bags so when you got to your stop your bag was gone. You were only allowed to check your luggage Murwillumbah when the bus got there ( at the time the train didn’t leave Brisbane you had to bus it over the border to get the train. ) There wasn’t enough food on board. No meals available overnight ( we got on board at 6 pm !!! ) and by morning all I could get was a cup of tea as everything else was sold out and arrived in Sydney 2 hours late hungry, dehydrated and sleepy with a headache and a massive back ache. I took the train because I couldn’t get a flight . I’ve gone from Sydney to Cairns by bus and it was more comfortable than that train trip . It was a disgrace especially considering the price I payed and there was not enough food or drink on the train . If I had known I would have brought my own food and drinks .

That's because you had economy maybe try first class or sleeper as they're much more comfortable and you'll have more leg room might be a little more expensive but at least you'll be comfortable

I always travel in a sleeper carriage! room for you luggage, always take my own food, and have a good nights sleep! Its always wise to plan your journey ahead of your trip so this sort of thing doesent happen! Travelling back from sydney again in december 2022 cant wait! love travelling on the train!

Excellent video with nice views out of the picture window. As a confirmed Anorak I enjoyed the sounds made by the carriage wheels as the train slowed and accelerated out of a station like at Casino 6:36. Acceleration not too bad, I wonder how many carriages there were (can be anywhere between 4 - 7 and, more unusually, 8). Would be interesting to know the train speed, perhaps you could get an App. on your phone. Looks like XPT design speed 160 km/h (99.4 mph) was attained @ 17:36. Glad to note that not all XPT carriage suspension makes squeaking noises.

What great timing, I didn't know that Jeff was from Casino until you mentioned it, that is really interesting

Wife and I did this trip many years ago, I must say it was the worst rail trip I have ever done. The toilets stunk, the crew on board were very rude, and there was rubbish everywhere

Nice video. Wonderful to see what the country looks like between the two cities. What time of year did you film this? Is it always this green and lush?

I filmed this in the summertime, January and the country is wonderful in nsw so I believe it’s always been that green

Hey! Thanks for sharing your video. I'm considering doing this trip and I was just wondering if the trains had a way to charge your phone like they do on planes or did you have to just avoid using it too much / bring a power bank?
@ftgsvideos8115 жыл бұрын
I suggest a power bank, I had one for the journey

Sorry mate, old train, so no charging stations in the seats and carriages, LOL. Maybe when the new trains come into service it is expected they will have them. Only in the sleeping carriages/day sitter carriages is there an accessible power outlet. But it is risky as the railways recommended ONLY to be used for powering an electric shaver as there is possibility of Electrical Surges that can damage phones and other electronics. Nevertheless, you will not need it as there is rarely ever any Mobile Phone service out in the country between the towns and cities, LOL. It does not matter about using phones anyway as there is such great Australian scenery (on the day service that is, try to avoid the overnighter) that the views are well worth it to abstain from the phones for a good day. Just sit back in your seat and enjoy the ride and the scenery. Maybe take a book to read is the most you will need. This train is great because no one can bother you as there is no phone coverage, Great for some time out and away from everybody,
