Brilliant images, I well remember clambering around the old bomb sites in Redfield in the seventies.

Hanging on to see the house I lived in on the junction of Chauks Road in 1966, there's a screwfix set back from where the houses were. Nevertheless wonderful archive! Thank you.

Hello Frank. Yes I remember you house. I went to primary School at Whitehall (1962-1964). As the junction was very tight they demolished your house and a couple of others to widen it. Glad you enjoyed the photos. Regards Dave.

@@historymandave4739 that's right, there were. The algorithm after watching took me to your other videos and the one about Easton from where I lived originally was very very interesting and I responded to one of the commentators who said they worked for the council when they were buying up properties in Twinell road where my father had his first house back in the mid 50s. Great memories of the Easton ward, Barton Hill, Old market, Fishponds, St Paul's, walked everywhere then and nobody had a phone so you didn't know if they'd be in 😂😂😂

Great video! I live on Herbert Street and it's incredible to see how much Whitehall Road has changed over the years... It's definitely used to be prettier

I remember a visit circa 1972ish to the Whitehall Tavern when the landlord Ted Crotty gave a perfect rendition of Mule Train with a tin tray. Proper entertainment!

@historymandave Sorry Dave - you will appreciate that my memory of that particular night was a little hazy. My grandparents were Ted and Ethel Bateman who had the New Inn/Valiant Trooper on Bryants Hill for many years. Ted used to take me out to see Jack Sherman at the Air balloon, Colin and Sandra Davis, Roger Coles, John Quateri, Bill Roost and Alan and Doreen Ford landlords in pubs all over Bristol. I'm sure I have some pictures of LVA visits somewhere. All the best,

I remember the Scouts and their hut next to St Ambrose Church. They were traditional Baden-Powell Scouts, who still wore shorts, big hats, and did DYB, DYB, DYB, DOB, DOB, DOB, right into the 1990s. Their leader was a radio ham, and once a year I used to assist with their Jamboree on the Air(JOTA) I know the Red Lion and White Hart pubs well, as I used to live in Herbert St.

Brilliant video - have you seen the photos on-line from when Princess Diana visited in 87? Not sure what the building was at that time but it’s the large squatted place on the Easton side of the Gilbert Rd junction.
