It's so neat that Bristol's M Shed has a feature to allow uou to see the harbour from the view of a modified wagon. As a lover of the city of Bristol this small line ride heightened my love for the city even more.

From what I heard when talking to the volunteers, it’s hopefully being re-opened once the track has been relayed, which should be by next year if not before.

Thank you. That is interesting. Pity the bridge over the cut now out of railway use. Maybe one day consideration should be given to an extension to the SS Great Britain.

Part of the Chocolate Path and the railway collapsed a few years ago, and the Council was very slow to repair it (as they have been with the rest of the ageing walls of the New Cut). They said that they would relay the track (the railway is technically owned by the Council, since it's part of the M Shed), and so far they haven't. The rails are sitting ready to go back in place and have been for a while. Vauxhall Bridge is also being repaired at the moment, and the scaffolding for that blocks the track. That's expected to be closed for up to another 2 years or so, and there's a good chance the railway can't open until that work is finished too. Apart from that, the ballast is already mostly in place by the Create Centre, and the platform is down there waiting. It's out of our hands, but it definitely will reopen eventually. What's particularly frustrating is that a big chunk of the railway's storage space is on the other side of the missing track. When we brought our rail crane down to the M Shed end, it had to be done by road. As for the bridge across the Cut, it was closed to railway traffic (in the 90s) primarily because it was deteriorating. I've heard that it was substantially renovated for the Metrobus scheme, so perhaps there's a (tiny) chance we might be able to put some temporary tracks down and run a special for an event sometime. We can dream. The railway, even as part of the M Shed (or rather the Industrial Museum), did at one point run further along towards the SS Great Britain. It was shortened a little when the platform there was built, though I have no idea why.
