Poor Glenda. 11 singles over 6 years and none reached the Top 50. Seems like every few months Joe Meek would send her out with a new song, a new haircut and a new outfit but her stuff never caught on. Shame, as she was a lot more talented than a lot of the girls who had hits.

Yes she is always conveniently left out when this period is discussed. She had 2 US No1 Billboard Hot 100 hits in 1965- Only the Beatles & Supremes had more chart toppers that year!

Those days were very different than many would imagine. I was playing back then and remember meeting Twinkle's mum in her Boutique in Kingston-on-Thames we had a long chat about the music business then. The change was rapid between the late 50s early 60s and with gigs like The Ricky Tick - Windsor - Eel Pie Island - in the suburbs along with Marquee - 100 Club - Ronnie Scotts - Rainbow - Round House, Chalk Farm et al the movement fell into line with the American invasion with Blues sliding into Rock into Progressive Rock and the Drug Culture that ensued and ensured a very different end of 60s and Glam Slammed into the 70s... I dearly miss those days and the myriad of gigs where today there seems to be few and very far between. I feel blessed to have known that period in our musical history. @@annieg1812 your right. Those were real singer's back then and dressed appropriately and sold millons of record's unlike the so called singer's of today the less they dress the more they sell.but in the end of the day the singer's of yesteryear can hold their head up with their pride and self-esteem intact.i have more and great respect for those lady's to which they well deserve.

@@annieg1812 i agree with you that it was very hard to move up thur the ranks. all most impossible for them but i got to give it to them they kept pushing forward then the harder they pushed the door finally started to give way a little at a time.till the door was fully opened.i say hurray for them.no offence to any of the wemen out there.but back in the day they didn't have voice synthesizers as they do in today's world.it was strictly raw talent.there was a lot of female backup singer's and some decided to break free and go out on there own and made a name for them selfs.i applaud them for having what it takes(courage) to step out out of the shadows and let the lime light shine directly on them.and not just music now day's it's just about everything they strive to be what they want be.lawers doctors and one good thing about it it was the wemen fighting for their right's that they layed down the path so that other's may follow and made it easier for lady's of today to capture their dream of doing what ever it is they wish to become in today's business world.was it hard for them yes and then some.example who would have thought that wemen would be on a space shuttle going into space 30yrs ago.no one could see that happening.but they conquered that mountain that challenge them they adapted and over came what was thought would be the impossible.lastly it was a very very sad day when the spacecraft carrying the school teacher blew up😪😪😪.i can not imagine her students watched in horror let alone us as adults.may they be comfort in the LORD'S ARM'S.people have a way to underestimate the power of a women. There was no racism in the music business in Britain in the 1960s. There were lots of black artists and multi-racial bands. American soul music was very popular and bands like the Four Tops, Miracles, Temptations, Supremes and Ronettes were very well-regarded. Singers like Otis Redding, Chuck Berry and Percy Sledge were huge.

Claptrap! Who does the research for these UK TV shows? Riddled with inaccuracies falsehoods and misleading on so many levels. In many cases the chronology of when these artists emerged is wrong and wild silly statements go unchallenged- many by the "stars" being interviewed. One example being "Millie was the first little black girl to have a hit in England" REALLY? The convenient omission that many of these hits were in fact watered down poor cover versions of far superior records that had already been hits in the USA for African American acts is particularly galling. This could've been a great programme.
