And much like Millie Bobby Brown, I have a mixed accent, was born in another country and raised in both the US and overseas. But I also speak 2 languages. And I feel like the one I speak the most, affects the other. So everyone in the US hears something different, depending on their own ear for accents or depending which language I’ve been using more. Fascinating this whole accent + perspective thing.

I started out with British Comedy as a kid. I loved Keeping up Appearances, Faulty Towers, Chef, Thin Blue Line, The Vicar of Dibley! But my all time favorites were Are you Being Served, and Mr. Bean! They were all so funny 😅

lol, Hugh Laurie! The first time I saw him was a small but memorable part on Friends, where he was a snippy Brit dressing down Rachel on a plane. I LOVED him! Then when House started, I was so excited, imagining him as the same snippy Brit. I could not get past the American accent and just never got into the show. 😁

Anytime I've watched a British show or movie, I've needed subtitles. 😂
@BeachyDАй бұрын
The only one I've needed subtitles for was "Shetland" but after a few episode I found that I got the hang of it and didn't need them anymore.

15:01 Hugh Laurie was using his British accent when he was on the plane with Rachel when she was trying to get to Ross in Friends. It blew me away when I realized that was House and he was British.

A Bit of Fry and Laurie (Stephen and Hugh) is a fantastic variety show. Look up Hugh singing the song Mystery from the pilot. ROFL He was also part of Black Adder. Love British humor!!

We already knew that the British ones were British. They do interviews. They didn’t fool anyone.

If you don't watch interviews and don't 'follow' celebs, it's easy to be fooled, and plenty of people are.

I loved that show Keeping Up Appearances. The British accent makes it even funnier for us. Because to us, your accent sounds “fancy”-- Do you know the actor Mark Addy? He played King Robert in Game of Thrones. I used to love a sitcom he starred in here in the US called “Still Standing”. I had NO clue he was British. Initially, I thought his British accent of GOT was a fake accent. Nope, he just fooled me. 😂
@alb91878Ай бұрын
I think it's because you are British and you live in the UK and you hear it all the time whether it's on TV your family or out and about in your everyday life. So no matter what you're always hearing the British accent so you don't understand the beauty of it like a lot of us outside of your country do. You're also fascinated with us culture and movies and a number of other things so I think you may be drawn to our accents because of that. I don't hate our American accents but I really don't think anything of them, but if I hear a European or a Spanish accent or an Asian accent I am tuned in like crazy! Absolutely find them so melodic and beautiful! I also think there are a lot of British comedy shows that I absolutely love and I love how they're able to talk about and do things over there that we can't do here. There are a lot of good series and movies as well. I just love how matter of fact you guys can talk about things on TV without a bunch of religious pretenders clutching their pearls and freaking out.

All I can say is it’s simply amazing to me, an American, when an actor or actress (whichever term one prefers) drops their accent for a different one is a huge testament to their effort. I can only imagine how difficult it could be. I’m not just talking about an accent but also various regional dialects, too. I am stunned when the inflections of one’s tone can throw me off from TV or movie to actually hearing their real voice in interviews.

I still find it strange when Tom Holland speaks in his native accent, because his American English as Spider-Man is so good. The person that really surprised me was from BSG, Apollo. Jamie Bamber.

The Walking Dead has many actors that are from the UK and Australia. The one that still surprises me is Lennie James who plays Morgan Jones. Andrew Lincoln is famous for not being able to say Carl in an American accent. It surprised many Americans that Charlie Hunnam from Sons of Anarchy is English.

In an Uno Reverse of British & American accents, James Marsters of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" fame, played the British vampire, Spike, with a thick Cockney accent. Marsters is actually from a small town in California & has a drawl that sounds a little like he's from Texas.
@amandajingleheimerschmidt30508 күн бұрын
And don’t forget that one episode of Buffy where Spike (James) tried to hide his identity from Giles by doing a really bad American accent, just like an unstudied Brit might. That was GENIUS 😂 I was partly fooled because I’d always thought that “Marsters” was a very Old English sounding name!

I don't watch a lot of British TV dramas, but I do really like your game shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Taskmaster, QI, and Would I Lie to You 😆They have a much more laid back quality than a lot of our game shows. I have seen a lot of the older shows like Ab Fab, Keeping up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, etc. They used to play on PBS back in the day. Oh, and I guess Doctor Who and Sherlock of course.

As an American, i've got to give it to the UK, they really do produce the best and most legendary actors. At least, since the beginning of Hollywood until now.
