mall security in America has the authority of a toaster and are about as dangerous, they are mostly for show because all they can do is ask you to leave and call the police when you don't. Hi Kabir! I remember this from about 3 months ago. Allen is a suburb of Dallas, it's a relatively affluent area. I've done custom furniture other woodwork there. Shootings and killings are quite common in Fort Worth, where I live. Usually, it's related to drug deals, gang wars, and domestic conflicts, though there are still plenty related to armed robbery. Most mall security is unarmed though they carry pepper spray. If something serious comes up they call the cops.

Kabir, a lot of outlet malls don't have security, as instead of being multiple stores inside one large building, they are considered individual stores that are street facing. Also, security in malls almost never have firearms. In fact, most malls are soft targets, where customers are not allowed to carry their firearms on mall property, even in states that have constitutional carry. This is because the property owner usually has a policy against it. The most I have seen mall security have is a taser or pepper spray, but the security company does not want the potential liability of any of their officers carrying weapons, as they could get sued for wrongful death for their officer shooting someone.
@jaycooper2812
@jaycooper2812 Жыл бұрын
Not all shopping centers in America have armed security. The level security is determined by what the mall's insurance company will allow. In a lot of cases having the security guard armed only results in the guard being the one shot first and usually from behind.

IMO mass shootings in the United States started becoming very well known with the postal shootings, and began to rise more rapidly after the Columbine high school shooting. I know the amount of mass shootings in the United States seems high in comparison to other countries, but we also have to remember the United States is a humongous country. There has been more than 470 mass shootings in the U.S. this year according to the Gun Violence Archive. A mass shooting is defined as 4 or more people injured or killed. Most of our public schools here have regular “active shooter” drills. They are pretty traumatizing for little kids. It’s all very sad.
@hanng1242
@hanng1242 Жыл бұрын
What counts as a mass shooting depends on how one does the calculation. The Gun Violence Archive includes *any* incident where there are four or more people *injured or killed* by GSW, not including the shooter. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there were 419 mass shootings in 2019. However, according to Mother Jones, there were 10 that year. This is because Mother Jones only included incidents in a *public* setting where three or more people were *killed* (not including the shooter) *and* the shooter's motivation was "indiscriminate," that is, not related to robbery, gang violence or domestic violence. Using the a similar criteria criteria (the difference is 4 deaths rather than 3 were required for inclusion), the Mass Shooter Database found 6 mass shootings that year. Stanford University used to have its own database, and according to them, in the last year in which they were around (2015), there were 62 mass shootings, defined as 3 or more people killed or wounded, in any setting, not related to gangs, drugs or organized crime. Thus, the numbers can be very different depending on what one is looking for. It seems to me that when people talk about "mass shootings," they mean the sort of stuff like that seen in the video here - indiscriminate shooting of people in a situation where people are just going about their day. However, if one has an anti-gun agenda, they use numbers generated by criteria such as that used by the Gun Violence Archive to make it seem like there is "an epidemic" of random gun violence. These numbers get trotted out after something like what happened recently in Nashville, thus implying that there are over 400 Nashville-type shootings each year - a lie by omission. If we take away the crime-related shootings we have only 1/7th as many as insinuated. Note also that "Nashville-type" shootings calls to mind school shootings which makes the number smaller still. At the same time, calling something a "school shooting" also requires clarification. Do we mean any shooting that happens at the school? Do we mean only mass shootings at a school? Does it include a shooting of and by gang members who all go to that school? Does it include shootings that occur on school property but have nothing to do with the students or faculty there? Do we include universities in the category of school? I get the impression that when people talk about "school shootings" they mean stuff like what happened at Columbine, or Sandy Hook, or Nashville (and not something like Virginia Tech) - someone goes to a K-12 school and indiscriminately starts shooting students, teachers and anyone else that have the misfortune of bring there. That doesn't mean that there is no problem or that killings that are unlike what happened in this video are unimportant, but rather that there are several *different* problems that do not have the same solution, unless the goal is not to reduce or stop shootings as such, but rather to eliminate private gun ownership. As for traumatizing children, is it possible that it is the active shooter drills themselves that is causing the trauma? While it is always good to be prepared, the real likelihood of a school shooting is rather low - at least in the suburbs or small cities. Indeed, it is the incongruity and rarity of a shooting happening in a safe area that makes it news; a "drug deal gone wrong" (as though something has not already gone wrong if a drug deal is occurring in the first place) mass shooting in inner city Baltimore doesn't make national news because, well, that is just the sort of thing we expect would happen there. Depending on what "regular" (in regular active shooter drills) means, perhaps it is the schools themselves which are traumatizing their students by giving them the impression that they are significantly more likely to be put in an active shooter situation than is supported by actual data. It seems to me to be similar to how a generation of Americans were terrified of nuclear war during the Cold War whereas in reality, except for the one time we got to DEFCON2 (Cuban Missile Crisis), there was actually very little risk of it occurring. Why? I submit that it was due to all of the duck-and-cover drills these kids had to do that made them think, incorrectly, that nuclear annihilation was imminent.

@@hanng1242 The U.S. has more guns than people. Last time I checked there were more than 18 million A.R. 15’s out in the general public. That doesn’t bother you but it bothers me. I do worry for all my grandchildren. I come from a hunting family so I grew up around guns, but our gun culture has morphed into insanity. We’ve had mass shootings in malls, movie theaters, schools, colleges, grocery stores, office buildings, post offices, concerts, and many other work places. By the way I think your 1/7 number is still outrageous. You can spin it all you want but I’ll listen to the parents of Sandy Hook who are trying to get common sense gun laws passed any day over your opinion of the statistics and what is an acceptable amount of children violently blown away in our schools. Also, in terms of mall security, they deal with stuff like rowdy teenagers, shoplifters, or even brawls, not mass shooters going mad. They aren't equipped or trained for that sort of thing. The PTSD must be so enormous for the cops, seeing innocent civilians gunned down and having to kill a shooter. This is war shit, not civilian life, should NOT happen. God bless all the brave cops, praying for everyone shot and their families.

Unfortunately these happen all too often. Most aren't even covered by national news anymore because there are so many.

Most security dont carry firearms. At most cuffs and maybe pepper spray. Generally, Security can do so much before they need police to take over.

I'm a police dispatcher for a school district in Texas. When Uvalde happened, I can't tell you how many of us, officers very included, in the department were sickened. Our Chief sent out an email to everyone, reminding the department that we took a vow to serve and protect. But above all that, we vowed for our children. He also stated, if there was a situation like Uvalde, and all the exits are locked. Screw our vehicles, slam through the doors and get those kids out, and eliminate the threat. The number one thing that majorly put a rotten taste in my mouth were the officers unwillingness to go in. And their Chief stating, and I quote. "I was not aware I was the commanding officer at the time." YOU are the commanding officer over the Sergeants, Lieutenants, and your Captains! You are absolutely disgusting for having innocent people, especially children, get killed for something you vowed to do! Those parents and Bystanders showed their humanity 1000x more that day than your men and women who are 'highly' trained!

These outdoor malls do typically have security but these guys often times don't even have guns. If they do have guns it's usually a small handgun.

Some mall security are armed and some aren’t well at least where I live.

The average armed security pay is $16hr, with a pistol vs rifle, the pistol ment to be a detergent. Not worth the pay, and most places dont have armed security regarding malls

I heard screaming for help around the corner from my house so I started running towards it. My neighbors were astounded that I ran towards it,. A middle-age woman was beating her elderly father. I don’t know how people don’t help maybe because I was trained in the military?

Something ppl don't understand is that if there were any carry concealed ppl they most likely would have taken him out quickly to protect others. So this is the other side of the coin.. you'll never get rid of weapons here so the good citizens also need them cause you never know when or where you can become a bystander .

We have between a half dozen and a dozen mass shootings a year based on the current FBI definition of mass shooting which is a single attack with a firearm in a public place with three or more fatalities. In 2020 there were only 2 because of the quarantine. There were 12 last year, and this year there have been 8 so far, so we average about one a month. You'll see some sources say there are hundreds of mass shootings a year in the US but they're going by a different definition (usually from local PD) that includes multiple people getting shot anywhere not necessarily in a public place, and it counts non-fatal shootings. It's hard to compare with other countries because every country has a different definition of a mass shooting. Also mall security doesn't carry firearms (they're not supposed to, though some of them are people who no PD would hire and they pretend to be cops so they do) but they're mostly making low wages and are only supposed to call the police not actively stop a shooter. There are a few malls that have cops on duty in them, particularly big ones.

Pretty easy to compare mass shooting to other countries when theirs are usually in the single digits and ours in the triples. Also, it doesn't matter if people died or where they were shot, a shooting is a shooting is a shooting.
