It’s a fallacy that cat’s aren’t affectionate. All of them are different individuals, so some may be more affectionate than others. Most cats will love to sleep beside you (or on you) and will want to sleep in your bed. They make biscuits (knead you) and they’ll rub around your legs and head butt you. Many will “talk” to you and demand that you stroke them, brush them, rub their bellies, etc. While they are all individuals, most breeds have common personality traits. Maine Coons are intelligent and very loyal. I had one for 19 years and I was her person, everyone else was irrelevant. Ragdolls are laid back and follow you everywhere. Both of mine will follow me to every room and cry if I close the door on them. I actually cut a cat door in my bedroom door so they could be with me but leave to go eat/drink/use the litter box. My Ragdolls are from same litter. One will hide when visitors come. The other runs to every human for attention. He will also run out my apartment door and enter any other apartment door that opens on the hall. He goes straight in and makes himself at home. Maine Coons and Ragdolls are both really large breeds. I’ve had shelter cats. I usually pick the most timid/frightened/anti-social one. Then go slow, let them set the pace, make them feel safe and in a few months they’ll be trying to sleep on your head. I love dogs, too. I’ve had a Pekingese and two Saint Bernards. All were wonderful! They were very different but they had a grand time together. That was when I had a huge yard and could let them out whenever they wanted. Living in the city, I prefer cats. They don’t need to go outside. If I did have a dog, I’d opt for a smaller breed that doesn’t need as much space. But walking a dog in my pajamas at 5:30am is just not for me. -- And yes, every now and again I’ll be out at that time to catch a flight or something and there will be people everywhere in their pajamas and a coat, standing half-asleep while their dog does his business on the other end of the leash. It’s quite an amusing sight!

I went to the veterinarian clinic with my cat & a lady walked in with two dogs & her cat on leashes. I told how impressed I was that her cat walked on a leash. She said he kept wanting to go on walks with her & the dogs. So she put a leash on the cat & he walks with her & the dogs every day. I think if you are going to leash train your cat, you need to start when they are young. And it probably would have to be a confident cat.

I agree. It's actually the same for dogs it's just that most people do it. So no one really thinks about that. For a pet that isn't used to having a leash becoming full grown and all of a sudden you want to put a leash on it it's like taking away their freedom.

The trick with dogs is to make the leash something positive. My dog gets really excited when the leash comes out because it means he is going somewhere. I suspect it would be the same for a cat that is restricted to indoors when not wearing a leash.

Consider adopting a "shelter" dog. A young dog that is already house broken can save you a ton headaches trying to train. Have a good general idea of the kind of dog you want and don't expect to find it right away. My last two dogs came from rescue shelters and have been absolute sweet heart pets.

As a dog owner in a house of 7 dogs that raised all but one from 12-16 weeks old. Puppies are HARD work. They’ll chew your furniture, tear apart your sofa and your bed, cannot be trusted and when you go to bed you gotta shut them in a crate or they’ll do the above while you sleep. The amount of times I’ve woken up over the years where I’ve given them the freedom in the night while I’ve slept and both arms of my sofa are literally torn apart..there’s clear bite marks in my furniture and the house is in shreds is untold. Cats as kittens are no way near as destructive (apparently), they’ll scratch and knock things over but they won’t attempt to destroy your entire house while you’re asleep. You said you’re not around much, so a cat is probably your best choice of the two. Cats are independent and don’t really need much attention. Dogs do. ESPECIALLY when they’re young.

Yea. U can walk cat's. Just train them to harness and they happy to go walking with you or hang out in the garden. I have cat's and dog's and they all get along just fine. Each has their own unique way of playing and showing affection. If you choose a dog maybe go with a small breed that's low grooming maintainable. Just research the breeds you favor and make sure you know if they hyper or more mellow. Every breed is different in trainability difficulty levels etc. Thanks for the awesome video!

Cat’s meow when they are kittens to get their mother’s attention but what you mentioned is true, as they get older they no longer use that communication between each other. It’s reserved for their humans, cats meow at a decibel level that mimics a human baby’s cry and it gets a response from us (smart kitties) I think if you are time crunched and have a small place, a kitty would be the best, maybe 2 so they can keep each other company while your away

I had 3 cats and from a very young age treated them all like dogs all 3 each had a colored collar and a colored leash to match...when Goin to the store or just out for a drive I would say who wants to go for a ride? And they would line up by the door waiting for me to put on their leashes, and heaven help you if you didn't match the lead to match the collar, red went with re, blue with blue, and green with green...or the would refuse to move. Once that was settled walk out to the car open the door and they would jump in and wait for me to remove their leads then they would lay on the back deck of the car just looking at everything.

Small dogs are really fun. We have had chihuahuas for 16 years. They will steal your heart but not your wallet... unless they are naughty. We have three and the upkeep costs are very reasonable. Two of our 3 are not into toys so it depends on the dog with the toys. We buy a 30lb bag of food that will last us more than 6 months. We do also buy refrigerated fresh food and it is $10/week. That is to help supplement the extra nutrition needs of our 17 year old dog mostly. I also feed them grilled chicken thighs. In America we can get the chicken on sale and cook it. That is not necessary but it is a welcome treat for them. Dogs make great home alarm systems too. With three Chihuahuas, I don't think that anyone will want to walk into that. 😂 With vet visits, after their vaccines are up to date, we go once a year for a check up and every other year for a dental deep cleaning. Chihuahuas get a bad wrap for being crazy and they can if needed but are also cuddlebugs who are happy to accompany you on a Netflix binge session and nap.

It can totally be possible to walk a cat on a leash. Of course depending on the cat. There are KZbin videos about it. A cat could be ideal if you are super busy. They need creature comforts for it to feel like their house too. You'll need some good play time with them too. There are lots of amazing cats at cat shelters and rescues that need loving homes. 🧡🐱🧡🐱

My cats are very affectionate. They are always in my lap, or in bed with me, or on my laptop, lol. Sometimes they're too needy I feel. Dogs are too needy for me because I like to be out and about and I like just being able to scoop a litter box than having to take a dog out in the rain/cold. But I do kind of envy my friends who can take their dogs with them on road trip adventures and have the travel companion. Cats can't go anywhere so when I travel if I am gone for more than 4 days I have to have someone check on them. But my friends who have dogs can be gone for months at a time.

It’s the love you get from these animals not just the laughs that makes it all worth it. Just know that your shoes maybe eaten, couch get all scratched up, garbage gotten into and thrown all over the place, pillows torn up, accidents like poop and pee, dirt brought in the house, cats bringing their owners mice or squirrels currently my new dog is currently trying to eat my dining room table (it’s serious old so I don’t care) and he’ll be out of the biting stage soon but ask anyone who’s had a pet for a while if they would trade it for anything and you will get the same answer….”no I would not give up my animal”. Some people who have indoor only cats, walk their cats with a leash or harness to keep them from running away. You do have to train them very young so they get used to it. @@kabirconsiders Re affection from cats, as people say, depends on the breed or personality. When you meet your prospective cat, look for one that walks up to you and wants to sniff your fingers, rub against you, or purrs/reaches for you if it's in a cage. If you can sit on the floor with it/them, see who makes a beeline for your lap. Or who climbs right into your lap! If you stick with cats that seem outgoing and friendly, you're more likely to get one that will give you plenty of affection from the start. Oh, and even though lots of cats don't like being held while you're standing, that doesn't mean they won't want cuddles. If you're sitting or lying down, they'll usually want to be touching you, often within petting distance, or in your lap...arm of recliner or couch...on your lower legs...*between* your legs...behind your head on the back of couch... Any place you stay in one spot. 😁 Both of mine had been feral kittens (their previous owner died), but they stayed in beds on either side of my computer, they followed me room to room, even short trips, and had specific spots they'd cuddle against me in bed. Dulcy's gone now, but Simon's even more cuddly now, and he's the shy one around other people! He runs and hides. Me, it's like he's super glued.

Dogs & cats are a lot of fun but they're like little kids. They depend on you for everything. In the US they require yearly vaccinations for rabies, etc. A tag is issued for their collar to show they're up to date. They do get sick, sometimes hurt and vets can be expensive, depending. Given that, there's nothing like a furry friend to have around. They can be great for human kids to teach responsibility, care for them, feed them, walk them, etc. Our family always had a dog when we were kids. ;0)

@@kabirconsiders now aside from the apartment you should have yourself tested for any cats or dogs related allergies before deciding on buying a pet, pending on the results it will help you decide what breed you should set your mind on.

@@kabirconsiders British Shorthairs are an amazing breed! I've got a British Shorthair and a Selkirk Rex and both are amazing breeds. Both breeds are as loyal as a dog but a lot less hassle as you wouldn't have to worry about the time and apartment size so much. Two cats are even better as they're company for each other, but of course that depends on cost and apartment size.

@@kabirconsiders Dogs can go with you. And a well behaved dog can be both an ice breaker and stress relief. Especially friendly dogs. A medium sized dog can be a good apartment dog. Plus dogs don't tend to climb your curtains, counters and electronics. Cats can be far more destructive than dogs. Plus you have to have a cat box with all the smells, the cleaning and the litter they will spread everywhere.

@Kabir Considers yellow/orange tabbies are extremely affectionate. They love to be petted & in your lap all the time. Probably would make a good first cat. 90% of yellow/orange tabbys are male cats. You also need to take into consideration that although it pains me to say, some cats like to sharpen their claws on your furniture. Hopefully, if he/she takes to a scratching post, you will not have that issue.

If you do get a pet you should consider adopting an older dog or cat from a shelter or rescue. Puppies and Kittens are a lot of extra work and you would also be saving them from a bad fate. My girl and I often go and adopt the oldest dogs we can find so they can have all of the love and treats they deserve that their previous owners decided they didn't deserve simply because they were "old." I just love seeing their eyes light up and the life come back into them when they realize they have a pack again to play and love. Sure they may not live very long but the reward is worth it. Old dogs love the hardest.

If you're looking for a quiet appartment dog, def go Boston Terrier or Frenchie or Pug. My Boston Terrier is 6 and he's never barked lol. That being said, my last dog was a German Shepherd and she also never barked (maybe some of it has to do with me being a quiet person??? hmm). Anyways, do NOT recommend any type of Chihuaua mix if your worried about barking and irritating neighbors (Jack Russels can be pretty barky too). I rescued both of my dogs so I recommend that too but wtvr (I got lucky getting a rescue Boston because they can be pricy). Boston Terriers are such chill little dogs with funny personalities and tend to be quiet on average.

Once litter trained cats will only need to be fed and litter cleaned and petted occasionally. Some cats will sit on your lap, others won't. They are very self sufficient.

Honestly if it were ever a choice between getting a cat or getting a dog I’d definitely pick a dog. I love my dog to pieces and it always makes me so happy to walk and feed her and play with her. She just gives me never ending love and affection and I absolutely love it when I come home from being at university or a trip to her being super excited to see me running to greet me and crying with absolute joy. They’re playful and very fun to be around! (Not saying cats can’t and don’t do any of this stuff 😅 just from personal experience)

I’m a dog person too. Somehow got stuck with a cat I wasn’t excited about. He quickly became a part of the pack. He too would join the dogs at the door to greet me with his fluffed up tail and sweet meows. Dogs got a treat, he’d sit in front of me like an obedient dog waiting for his treat. I brush the dogs, he rolls on the ground next to them asking for his brushing. When dogs and I would leave for the weekend, he’d be so upset as he’d watch me pack up. So excited with constant meows upon our return. Good thing is they can stay home when you take off for a day or two. But not with the dogs. BUT, when I started traveling more frequently and it started affecting my cat (Dexter), I started taking him with us. Surprise, surprise! He liked it!! As long as he was with his pack, he handled the car rides and new places really well. Got to the point that he’d look forward to it. Miss that guy.

I love both and based my decision on how long I'm out of the house for work. if you have a regular schedule & it's not a long one then yes a dog is good 😊 If you're out of the house for possibly 10-12 hours at a stretch kitties are the way to go. I have a coworker who got a dog & KNEW he was working long hours then he gets mad when the dog goes to the bathroom in the house 🙄 numpty

Cats Definitely, omg you'll love them . People misunderstand cats, I have 4 Cats . One of my cats once ran down the stairs meowing at the man delivering my groceries. My other cat which is A Siamese he goes underneath my blanket and lays on my chest .

To get a dog you have to make a commitment to being home at regular intervals. When I was young with an active social life there was no way I was at home enough for a dog. Cats fit that life style much more easily. They can be leash trained. Dogs left alone can also pose a problem with their barking in an apartment situation.

I’ve only liked three cats in my life. Only one of them was ours. Cats and I usually don’t like each other right off the bat. In my personal opinion, I think you should get a dog. They are so much fun and love you to pieces.

Well Kabir, if you're interested in getting a dog, I know a good portion of dog breeds and what it takes to care for them. Ask away! (And yes, it's true. Cats have a wide range if sounds to get our attention similar to how baby cries get our attention)

It all depends on how you live. If you are out a lot and the pet needs to be alone, a cat can do better being alone in an apartment than a dog can because dogs need their pack (their people) and cats are more independent and can be alone for a while. If you are active, dogs are good to walk with, and jog with, however, for apartment living, you would probably need to choose a smaller breed and one that hopefully doesn't bark a lot. If you want a constant companion, including getting up in the night for the dog to go poo. A dog would be ok, if you are out many hours of the day and want a companion in the evening just to play with and snuggle with, a cat might be a better choice for you.

I love both cats and dogs, but cats are a lot easier. Kittens mew and meow to their mommy cats when they need something. So now they do it to us.
