This movie has my all-time favorite joke by Bill Murray when the Ghostbusters are talking to the mayor and one of them says, "Dickless over here shut down our vault." The mayor says, "is that true?" Bill Murray responds, "Yes, this man has no dick."

I am employed as a dock worker and whenever a truck driver comes to the door after docking their truck I never fail to use Janine's line to the cop who has come to bring them Louis: "Dropping off or picking up." There are so many quotable lines in this movie, it is really hard for me to pick an all time favorite. But I do use quite a bit of lines from it in my day-to-day life.

You definitely need to check out Sigourney Weaver in _Galaxy Quest!_ Lots of fun with an amazing cast and she's totally not Ripley there 😄 Saw this in the theater and you're right that we hadn't really ever seen something like this before, but it wasn't the effects, that was all pretty standard stuff, it was just a new variation of the ghost story with hip actors, hip music, and hip attitudes, a real blast to watch with an audience who'd been hearing this song on the radio for the past few weeks so we were all singing along 😎

Yes, Goonies is a classic must-watch. And the sequel to this “Ghostbusters II” is definitely worth a watch, don’t let anyone tell you differently. It was made about 5 years later with all the same cast (actually gives bigger parts to a couple slightly lessor but awesome characters from this movie)

Loved the reaction. And there's a couple of hidden gags in there. The first one is the irony of lewis being the key master, yet he always locks himself out of his apartment. The second one, when they are going over the bill with the manager, if you watch egons hands, he's actually telling venkman how much to charge.

The reason that ugly green ghost “Slimer” is always eating ravenously is because he was a caricature of actor John Belushi, more specifically his character in Animal House, who was often stuffing his face. john Belushi and Dan Akroyd (Ray) were really close friends, did a LOT of shows/projects together including “Blues Brothers.” Akroyd was one of the writers of this movie and had every intention of having his BFF Belushi be one of the Ghostbusters. I thought I heard or read somewhere that Akroyd was actually at his typewriter working on the script when he got the call that Belushi had died of an overdose. He was devastated, theyd been best mates for years. Modeling Slimmer after him was a way to honor and still “include “ him in the movie.

CGI was in its infancy at this moment. They could do some very basic things but nothing that was movie ready at this point. CGI was not really used until the late 80s or early 90s. The ghost in this movie were all practical and what they had learned how to do from Raiders of the Lost Ark and that ghost scene.

23:17 That bridge in the background is the Brooklyn Bridge, but the one they're on in the Manhattan Bridge. No CGI in this movie, it was all composit/rotoscoping, and it was absolutely brilliant. The fact that this movie more or less holds up (with a few exceptions of the terror hound scenes looking a bit still) is a testament to how brilliant this film was made for the time.

Watching this reminds me of just how good Canadian and SNL alumnus Dan Aykroyd is. If you want to watch a terrific, almost forgotten movie that will shatter whatever preconceived notions you may have about chick flicks, My Girl (1991) is the one, and he plays the father. It's also Macauley Culkin's best film and he's not even the main character. I have a soft spot for the Motown, late 60s, early 70s soundtrack too. The movie was huge when I was 9 years old. Every kid I knew was singing "Do Wah Diddy Diddy." This is another one of those movies that proves that you don't have to be going at Michael Bay pace to make an engaging movie. This came out 2 years before Top Gun, which is where the pacing of movies went from manageable to warp speed. I couldn't watch movies in the 90s with my peers because they'd complain about how "slow" my favourite movies were. Silence of the Lambs is considered "slow" compared to a lot of movies these days and suspense isn't a thing anymore. That's why some of my favourite movies are pre-1995. For another good 80s Dan Aykroyd movie besides My Girl, The Blues Brothers is a good one, too.

This was a good movie to see in the theater when it came out. It had some scares, mainly the first ghost and the "dogs". The female ghost visiting in the night did cause some uncomfortable questions from the kiddies though. The theme song has a music video for it. It was one of the early ones playing on MTV. The song itself was very popular and was on the radio for a long time. People were also wearing Ghostbuster T-shirts for a long time, too.

Since cgi wasnt inviolved actors/ writing/ special effects had to catch your attention. Sadly, like music everything became edgier through 2000s. Movies today? Its rare to have a great blockbuster . To your query about the library ghost, if you play the 2009 video game, they expand on her backstory. She WAS a librarian who was murdered by her... husband, I think? and she never left after she died. It wasn't until the guys solved her murder that she disappeared from the basement. It was a really fun game. Slimer, the green hotel ghost, was modeled after John Belushi, who was supposed to be Peter Venkman. Dan Aykroyd wanted Slimer to be similar to Bluto Blutarsky from Animal House, which is why he was so hungry. Did you notice that when figuring out the bill, Venman looks at Spengler who cryptically holds up 4 fingers ($4,000) and when it came to storage fees, he holds up one finger for the additional $1,000. The reveal of Ecto-1 is my favorite introductory shot of any vehicle ever.

Between those, Transformers, Ninja Turtles, GI Joe, Mask, and He-Man, not to mention MUSCLE and Battle Beasts, it was a great time for toys.

Great reaction. I’m a reference librarian and I would flip out if the books started flying off of the shelves. The scene was filmed in the library at Columbia University.

I have friends with a firepole installed in their house at the end of a 2nd floor hallway! It's always the highlight of a visit!!

The joke you missed (after the Stay-Puft guy was destroyed) is that Ray says, "Smells like burned hair", and then he remembers Dana was turned into a cosmic dog and that's when he says, "Oh man, I'm sorry ... I just forgot".

Totally off topic, but that SR-71 on your table, you should turn it around on it's stand, so that it looks like it's taking off rather than about to crash. :O)

Dan Akroyd who helped write this movie was inspired by his brother Peter Akroyd who was a real paranormal investigator and ghost hunter.

I was blessed to grow up and be able to watch a lot of classic great films when they first came out, there in the theatre. This film is one of them. It was fun to see how films and even television has progressed in all these years.

It's because lore has that ghosts are often accompanied by an ozone smell or by other strange odors, hence why Venkman is using a "sniffer" device in Dana's apartment.

When it came out no one freaked out in the theaters. Everyone knew it was supposed to be fun. No one was frightened by the ghosts. They all laughed as was the movie was designed to evoke.
