My parents and I were sitting down to eat dinner. The last channel on was the news so we immediately began hearing what had transpired less than a minute previously. My dad made a comment about idiots and fireworks. As I entered the room I heard the sound, noted the blood on Trump's ear and shouted to my parents. It struck me how much calmer my 70 year old parents were. They'd lived through the attempts on Reagan and lived through the assassination of JFK Jr. I recall as a kid my dad telling me about being dismissed from school in the middle of the day following JFK's death. I thought 9/11 was comparable to that. Yet, for me, my reaction was far different from my parents. I texted my sister, and she was similarly stunned, shocked, horrified, disbelieving, and afraid. I don't care about your political standing. Violence is not okay. A man died after he jumped on his wife and daughter to give them as much protection as possible. So senseless.

I was relieved to hear that he is ok. But I am also very concerned for the mental welfare of my country. We are on a very dark path. But, I will say that while I'm not a Trump supporter, I'm also not a Biden supporter. I wish we had more candidates to choose from. Security detail looked a hot mess. Both SS and local PD or hired additional security firm were all sorely lacking. Running for and beng in public office runs with this kind of implicit risk. So an attempt shouldn't be surprising. That said, it shouldn't have happened especially in a relatively "easy" setting to secure. Unfortunately, no one realizes that more than the new widow and their child and the others that were injured.

So I think the craziest part is. All the reporting says that the snipers had eyes on the target before he shot. Some outlets say a minute 50 seconds before, other outlets are saying 3 minutes to 10 minutes before. Either way if they were looking at him and he got off seven shots and the sniper waited 26 effing seconds after the first shot that is absolutely nutso insane...
@jongrho602
@jongrho602 Ай бұрын
They can't move him until they get confirmation the shooter was down. As you can hear once they get that, they start to move him. Until that time, they are supposed to keep him down and use their own bodies to protect him. I noticed there were a couple of shorter female agents protecting him and I was wondering why they could not get taller female agents. I think DEI has gone amuck - while I do think that there are women who can do the job, they need to have a height requirement. While I think his personal SS security team did a decent job, as a former President and as he had not yet been officially made the Republican Presidential nominee, he does not have the extended SS presence. The counter sniper team was not SS - they are PA state police. Most of the security at the site was either PA state police or local police. While the counter sniper team gets SS training, its doubtful that the other police protection has had similar training with the SS. They admitted that a police officer had climbed up a ladder before the assassin took his shots, the police officer retrreated when the assassin turned around and pointed his rifle at him. It's doubtful that officer had any means to communicate with Trump's personal SS detail - that is an obvious problem. Ultimately though, while most of the security was PA state police, the SS is ultimately in charge of site security and the fact that they had no one on a very obvious dangerous roof location indicates a severe failure on whoever in the SS was in charge of planning security for the event.

There was two questions 1. What the hell is wrong with the security and obviously they need better training and I think it’s because Biden got the best security and Trump got the leftovers and two how did those snipers not see the man on the roof that is literally in the line of site across from them and people are screaming at Security that there is a man on the roof and nothing! Hmm 🤨 could they be telling us something? But I love the first thing they said was that it’s our fault on the left even though the guy was MAGA moron. Trump still has not called the family cuz all is he doing is me me me me me! But they don’t even know if it was the bullet that hit him because normally a bullet like that would just shatter your ear, but the teleprompter got hit and to me that looks like a lot of glass that just got ricocheted in that direction, but the bullet hit the person behind him.. you know the father who is protecting his wife and children that Trump will not call and give condolences to! Politics in the 1960's were just as volatile, consider all the assassinations and attempts. The 1970's were no picnic, either. Watergate and the Vietnam War left very deep divisions among people in this country. Political terrorism was common, too: Black Panthers, Weather Underground, SDS, FALN. I remember being a child in New York City in the early to mid 70's when bombings were common. This new round of nasty started with the contested election in 2000. I don't think the left has ever gotten over it. They've simply become more nasty, mean and shrill over the years. I'm not telling you political right was perfect, I'm just telling you the left has become more unhinged with each passing year, to the point that when it reacquired power under Obama, it decided to shove its entire agenda down everyone's throat. Obama was a major factor here, too. Far from being a unifying figure, he was just another in a long line of leftist radicals pushing the same, stale 1960's tried-and-failed ideas, only with more stupid attached to it. The Trump phenomenon is not about politics: it's about people finally having had enough of the political establishment. Trump does not represent any ideology, per se, but rather he is an expression of people's discomfort with the progress of American politics over the last 20-25 years. He's seen as a figure who can't be bought and who has the spine to tell those in power to f*ck off. He's reflecting the feelings many people have. The Left in America sees in him a dire threat to everything they think they've accomplished, which was to fundamentally undermine the American tradition and national spirit so as to advance the Progressive agenda that dates back to the 1930's and smells of national Socialism, Fascism and Communism (all leftist movements live in the shadow of the Russian Revolution, although Fascism is less about ideology and more about HOW to conduct politics). Riots in American streets over the last few years, especially the ANTIFA idiots are, de facto, the same tactics and methods used by Brownshirts, Blackshirts and Bolsheviks. They can call themselves "anti=fascist" all they like, but their only methods are violence, intimidation and destruction. Because most of them are stone cold stupid. Even many on the American Left are now repulsed by it all. The "official" left sees it's power and influence waning, and so has tried to paint this man as "literally Hitler" for a decade...and they're failing. They're going to lose the election, almost a certainty, and the only way to stop the freefall is murder. They kept demonizing, persecuting, undermining and abusing the rule of law, probably in the hopes that some crackpot would do exactly this, because when you don't have any successes to point to, you manipulate fear, envy and anger. I don't know if that was this shooter's motive, but that's how many on the American Left see it, these days. Just the opinion of a man who has lived long enough and seen far too much of this nonsense.
