I wouldn’t put my sons life at risk like that. 😅 My son knows that when he is in big trouble, he’s got his backside turned away and he’s out of arms reach. And Kabir, if you want to raise respectful kids who have a healthy fear of their parents…start young. My son got little tiny swats that wouldn’t kill a fly, but were just enough to get his attention as a toddler. And most importantly, be consistent! So he has just enough healthy fear that at 10 years old, he would never even say anything to warrant any kind of spanking.

The suggestion that dads not reacting this way is causing us to live in "this situation" or that there would be less of these "bad ass" kids is nonsense. All my dad had to say was "this behaviour has disappointed me" and we would dissolve into tears, with wailing & gnashing of teeth so heartbroken we were to have hurt him. I would never have spoken to my mother in that way. I grew up with two stories - from my two next oldest sisters. One, asked/told to do a chore, told my mom that the only reason she had us kids was to do her damn dirty work. My mom was ON her like nobody's business. My older sisters were screaming for Mom to let up. She was HOT! The other sister, a few years later, was trying to get Mom's attention when she was on the phone. My sister finally said, "Might as well talk to a damn wall as talk to you!" Again, Mom wasted no time in dealing with THAT! One time there was a small crowd of people at our house I was quite small - 3, maybe 4. No more. I remember my dad talking to my (adult) cousin Bob in the kitchen and I wanted Dad to talk to me. I yanked on his pants to get his attention and he put his hand on my head and tole mt to wait. I waited about 2 seconds and tried again. He slapped me across my cheek and said, "I told you to wait!" Lesson learned. Didn't take much for me to learn, growing up with my sisters' examples! After my father died, my mom went through a strange time where she made some very poor choices. We came to an evening where my sister and I had stopped in to the house for some specific reason, can't recall what now. (it was 40 years ago.) We were all married by this time, btw. My oldest sister and her husband were there, and my mom's brother and sister, who were staying at the house were there as well. Some nasty words were spoken by my uncle to me, then my sister spoke up for me, and my uncle spat in my face and said more horrible words. My brother-in-law was on him in no time, with his shirt bunched up under his chin, ready to punch him in the face. Mom was crying and begging us all to stop and it had only been 6 months since Dad died so we were mindful of her fragile state, but she basically took our uncle's side against us, when he'd been the one who was way out of line. I don't recall what I said, but it was something along the lines of, "I won't be back until he's gone." That seemed to me to be very harsh, and I had a very clear image of my dad smackin' me upside the head for being disrespectful to my mother. I had nightmares about it. It was nearly a year before my mom and I patched things up, I'd felt so betrayed.

My Mom was the disciplinarian. She didn't believe in waiting for Dad to get home she took care of business herself. My Dad was a gentler person but for some reason he only had to say something once... it was just scarier to think of making him angry.

If I even LOOKED at my mom disrespectfully I'd have been in the ICU with drool hanging from my mouth.

My dad was a military officer, Korean War veteran, maestro and a member of MENSA. So, you couldn't even out smart him. He was so strict, he didn't even let us say "fart" or "piddle" in front of him. We had to be completely silent during dinner so he could watch the news too. But I was the youngest, a total clown, a lot like him, and his favorite, so I got away with murder ... until he took off with a younger woman when I was 7. He was highly disciplined in many areas, except that he was quite the hoe.🤣 So, my mom raised us from then on. We were way more afraid of her, even when I grew to be a foot taller than her!

I didn’t need my dad around. My dad wasn’t in the home. If I had Dared to ever say that to my mother she would have levitated out of her body to fly across the room to get in my face and ask me “In What Universe do you think you can Ever Dare Speak to Me like that?” OMG it frightens me to even think about it! Kabir .... I would have been terrified to even play a joke like this with either of my parents! My parents were great parents and my Dad was usually very laid back, but he would have snatched me up and sent me into next week if I ever spoke to my Mom like this!

My dad used to keep a thick leather belt rolled up on the head of his bed and he made us go get it, bring it back then tan our backside with it, humiliation and pain. My mom would use whatever she could get her hands on. We all grew up obedient, respectful, hardworking and we all taught our children to be the same.

Forget my dad, if I did this mom would make me run for the hills. Cursing at her would've been bad enough, telling her to shut up.... 💀
