8:38 Why have a camera pointed like that? Because the owner is more worried about employees stealing than catching criminals.
@fanny_g3 жыл бұрын
Yea the "logic" is the camera is a deterrent and so no one is going to try anything because they'll get busted. Fyi almost all store owners before the information age operated on this "logic" they would have fake cameras (especially in dollar stores & 7/11 stores) and just tell the employees to yell "we got you on camera the cops are on their way!" Or have a camera but no tape to record anything bc it was "too expensive". In this case it looks like the owner just figured any old camera would do. Either that or the tape was reused so many times the footage was bad.

@@MelaniePoparad I wonder how she could've made a scene while being led away from the kiosk if there was no one around because of the weather and the location? Once in the car, was there any chance of getting out or trying to get someone's attention? Remember what this a-hole said, he targeted different people without regard to age, sex, or size; though I really wonder if he was telling the truth. I mean, would he have kidnapped a bigger, more powerful and capable male? Plus, he strikes me as a person who tells what I call "devil's lies". These are lies that are mixed with varying degrees of truth (or vice versa) meant to cause the most pain, confusion, etc. He appears to tell devil's lies to give his victims hope, and sometimes, in these situations, hope is a dangerous thing because it makes his victims docile, cooperative, and rather than planning an escape instead of waiting to be released, put into a state of Stockholm syndrome in which the victim becomes dependent and even grateful to their would be killer. It gives him all the power and he can do what he wants according to his own schedule. And with all that's said and done, isn't that what happened to her? Maybe the OP is right. You must need *decades* of therapy, I'm guessing, to even *begin* to unpack a personal history like that.

Businesses use surveillance cameras as a deterrent for criminals and to monitor employee behavior. Employees do a lot of shady stuff when they aren’t being monitored by someone else. It’s not necessarily to identify criminals. It’s kind of like a robber won’t try to break into a house that has a dog of any size because even a small dog will alert the owners to a problem.

Mr Ballen is a wonderful presenter. There is another YT video that specifically provides more details on his crimes. The totality of his 'work' remains unknown. He made a deal with the FBI for full disclosure with one of the main points was not to disclose his name to protect his daughter. As hiccups happen, through some administrative fluke, his name was disclosed and pickup by a reporter. When the news broke in Alaska, he was very angry shut down and suicided, ending the full disclosures of his crimes across the country. From what I had learned, he was uber prepared for anytime the itch to kill came upon him, anywhere in the country. Like most serial killers, he was very methodical about choosing total strangers whom he would stalk for a very long time, like a game. What is odd, beyond his killing focus, was his love for his child. That fact that he was so engaged and positive for a child (I think she was 10 at the time) is unusual. As with other children of these kinds of serial killers, I always hope the remaining parent/guardian helps them with change of name and a lot of counseling. Can you imagine how she will view that once in a lifetime trip with her dad, knowing he had kidnapped/raped/killed a woman and shelved her in the family shed while you were enjoying yourself for 2 weeks???
@Serenity_Dee3 жыл бұрын
the fucker who murdered my mother hanged himself in his jail cell while awaiting extradition (the murder was in NC, he'd fled to Georgia where they tracked him down at a gas station). the detective who was working the case told me and my sisters, before the dude did himself in, that he'd almost certainly get the death penalty in light of the "heinous nature of the crime." (The evidence found in his apartment showed that it was premeditated, although my mom was a victim of convenience; it seemed like he just wanted to kill someone and she was there. He was an upstairs neighbor.) If he hadn't I would have asked if I could be the one to press the button that actually started the lethal injection, and my only regret would be that I only get to do it once. But I know it wouldn't have made me whole. Nothing can do that now. It's been almost 21 years and in too many ways the wound remains fresh.

Howdy from Texas. I had exactly the same reaction about the placement of the security camera. Having worked in law enforcement and as a store detective for years. I'm well versed in security camera placements and their intended purpose. That particular camera in this video wasn't placed in order to identify anyone outside of the kiosk but rather it was very obviously placed so that the owner could watch what her employees were doing while on duty. So the owner was apparently more concerned about employees stealing from her than she was about the employees safety. And there was absolutely no reason why she couldn't have spent just a little extra money to have two cameras. One for her employees safety set to record outside at the window. And then the one inside watching the employees. Horrible Boss!

This is EXACTLY why I said the conversation about capital punishment can’t be had without also discussing the victims. Sometimes the crimes are so disgusting by someone who clearly can’t be trusted to live amongst the rest of us. And in those cases, my first thought isn’t if capital punishment is too cruel, but rather that the death penalty would be getting off easy. I think the feelings of the families left behind should be taken into consideration too. Some may not want them dead for religious reasons, others may think because their loved one can’t live, neither should they. It’s all very subjective.
