2:02 Spud only measures 5'7" tall and is one of the 10 shortest NBA players of all-time, and he can STILL dunk. 7:33 And speaking of Spud, THERE HE IS being dunked over! And Nate Robinson is indeed 5'9"

You mentioned that the older ones sound better. The backboard was redesigned after Shaquille O'Neal came into the league because he kept breaking the glass. That might have an effect on the sound.

Kabir, one of the guys in there, Jason Richardson won the slam dunk contest back to back. We played for the my team, the Golden State Warriors in rhe early 2000s. He wore #23 before Draymond Green did. Andre Iguodala later went to the Warriors and was Finals MVP when we beat the Cavs in 2016. All those Vince Carter dunks were from the 2000 dunk contest which was at the arena in Oakland, where I am from. I was at that dunk contest! It was amazing!!! Ceballos doing the blindfolded dunk he must have already practiced before and known exactly how many steps he needed to take so that he knew exactly where to jump and take off from. Although still not quite sure even with him knowing when to jump home he would know where the hoop and the backboard are!

The first slam dunk contest was held 27 Jan 1976 during halftime of the NBA-rival American Basketball Association All Star Game in Denver, Colorado which was won by Julius Erving of the New York Nets over David Thompson of the Denver Nuggets, Artis Gilmore of the Kentucky Colonels, and George Gervin and Larry Kenon of the San Antonio Spurs. The NBA & ABA merged the following off-season before the 1976-77 season. The NBA didn't add a slam dunk contest to their All Star Game until 1984. By the way, slam dunks were legalized in college basketball beginning in the 1975-76 season. Before that, in college and high school, dunking the ball was a technical foul.

My takeaway from this is that Kenny Smith changed the way slam dunks are commentated. If you look at the dunk commentary in the 90s and before they were normal and soft but from 2000 onwards when Kenny came in he added hype to the dunks saying things like "Let's go home ladies and gentlemen" "He's got the flu cause he's sick" "You win young fella" "Ok ok ok ok now you talking" "Yes indeed...yes indeed"

I loved the old school dunks back in the day when the players would shatter the backboard. It was a sight to behold and the crowd would always go insane. Nothing beats that image of these powerful guys with glass raining down all around them and fans losing their minds.

The Cedric Ceballos Blindfold dunk was pretty easy. It was fairly thin stretchy fabric and it with all the lights he could mostly see through it. If you have ever put a knit cap over your face, even a thick one can partially be seen through. With how thin his blindfold was he most likely could see fine.

Kabir, You talk about how does Nate Robinson get that much hangtime at 5'9 when Spud Webb(number 4 Hawks jersey) is in the SAME video who is 2 or 3 inches shorter. Spud's dunks are in the same video, he is also the guy Nate dunks over. Both are extremely athletic for their height and Nate played football(for one season) and basketball at the University Of Washington.

💀both Vince Carter and Zach lavine would beat Jordan. You could even add in aaron Gordon just because he is considered the goat by most don't mean yall got to get on ur knees for everything Jordan barely dunked from the free throw line regularly lavine did a windmill from it
@SiriusV212 жыл бұрын
@@blackgerman9735 Nah, out of those you mentioned, only Vince would beat Jordan. The thing that separates Jordan and Carter from Lavine and Gordon was the flair and grace with which they dunked. Jordan’s hang time was just unbelievable. It looked like he was flying. Lavine and Gordon don’t have that style.

Zach LaVine is 6’5” Spud Webb was listed at 5’7” but a lot of announcers would compare him to their mothers height and say he was closer to 5’5” tall,either way he had an amazing vertical.Early in the video was Dr.J “Julius Erving”was jumping from the foul line actually about a foot shorter but the still called it the foul line did it about ten years before Jordan.They say about 97% of the NBA could still dunk an 11ft rim and at least 80% could do 12ft.Shaq said there was no way he could dunk a 12ft goal.I’ve seen guys pull quarters off the top of the backboard which is 13ft.

Zach LaVine is tall for your average person but he’s certainly not all that tall for an NBA player. He’s maybe 6’6 which is honestly on the smaller side of NBA players. His thinner frame definitely makes him seem taller than he really is.

Easily the best dunk in here was Aaron Gordon over the mascot. Also if you stray away from the NBA, there are plenty of “professional dunkers” and dunking events outside of the NBA that are significantly more technical and impressive.
