Donna Summer - Queen of Disco. The Bee Gees, Chic, KC & the Sunshine Band and ABBA were 4 of the most popular bands of the disco era. I grew up in the 70's and there were still about a dozen songs on here that I did not know. One of my favorite ones that played on here was "Disco Lady" by Johnnie Taylor. I was already 18 years old when it came out but for some reason it stuck with me. Yeah, we had it great growing up in the 60's, 70's and early 80's. The best music ever.

To many, we are family was just a disco hit, but here in Pittsburgh, it was so much more. One night in 1979, while it was playing at one of their home games, Pirates captain willie stargell jokingly said that this would be the new team clubhouse song, as it was big at the time. But the team had one of its best seasons ever, and the team became known there and around the country as "the family", and they rode that momentum to the national league pennant and the 1979 world series title. Stargell even became known as "pops" as the teams leader and father figure. Sister sledge even performed the song at one of the world series games held in Pittsburgh that year. So before "Gloria" for the st Louis blues, there was we are family.

DISCO--for me it was any music that had a great beat you could dance to. Sometimes I think all the disco haters were the folks that were jealous because they couldn’t/wouldn’t get up and dance. I enjoyed many, many hours on the dance floor and when disco died here in the USA the US Air Force sent me to Europe where it was still very popular. So I had a great time in the 70‘s & early 80‘s here in the states, then in England and Germany mid - late 80‘s, and on to Turkey in the early 90‘s. And some disco music was „country“ music. I remember a disco in Louisville KY playing Lukenbach TX by Waylon Jennings. Main thing was everyone having a good time! Cheers from an now retired USAF world traveler!
