Yes, I recognized scenes from two movies. The beginning ones were shown from the movie called 2012 with John Cusack, and later in the video they used scenes from the movie The Day After Tomorrow with Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid.

May not be supervolcano related but I would recommend giving Dante’s Peak a watch. It’s the most accurate volcano disaster movie made. A couple of big actors and actresses are in the movie such as Pierce Brosnan (James Bond 007) and Linda Hamilton (Terminator 1 & 2).

Yellowstone is in the northwest corner of the state of Wyoming. The Pompeii volcano (Mt. Vesuvius) is not a supervolcano, but lies near the Campi Flegrei supervolcano on the other side of the Bay of Naples, Italy that also has the potential to kill millions (when it erupted around 37,000 years ago, it may have wiped out the European populations of Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens. Other supervolcanoes are located in Japan, New Zealand, Indonesia, and elsewhere.

If you want an actual scientific view on the Yellowstone Super Volcano might I suggest watching a video presented by Nick Zentner from Central Washington University. He’s much better than the Hollywood version.

I remember watching a program on the History Channel about Supervolcanoes a couple of decades ago. Yellowstone theoretically goes off every 600-800 thousand years and its been roughly 600 thousand years since the last one. They have been measuring the ground level for the past century and it's supposedly has risen nearly a foot in that period (they assume its one big-ass lava dome in the making). While that sounded very alarming then, apparently lava domes in Yellowstone can be miles deep. The last eruption over 600 thousand years ago ejected approximately 240 cubic miles of material in comparison to Krakotoa's 4.43 cubic miles in 1883. And tens of millions of deaths is just the immediate number. Over time, that's likely to be in the billions, mostly due to starvation as agriculture would be ruined over the entire planet. The Toba supervolcano eruption 74 thousand years ago is estimated to have reduced the human population to only a few thousand.
