My grandma would use rice crispies in the peanut butter mixture for buckeyes. ( my family is from Ohio) but I’ve never seen anyone else do that.

The buckeye candy is named for the seed of the buckeye tree, which is closely related to horse chestnut (which isn't a true chestnut). There are a few species of buckeyes in America, including the Ohio buckeye. These trees and their seeds are closely associated with Ohio, so much so that it's called The Buckeye State, and the name of Ohio State University's athletic teams is The Buckeyes. Buckeye seeds are dark brown, with a lighter brown circle on one side. Buckeye candies are made to look like this. The Ghirardelli company was founded in Peru in 1847, and moved to San Francisco, California in 1850 (after the gold rush). The company moved its factory to San Leandro (still in the Bay Area) in 1967. They still have a store in Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco, where they sell ice cream in addition to their chocolate.

Ghirardelli is America’s most widely available premium chocolate brand. They make a wide variety of products including things like bags of chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and brownie baking mixes. I actually used some of their 60% dark baking pieces in my Christmas dessert recipe today. The chocolate is made in San Francisco and I’ve heard their factory store is amazing.

There is even a Ghirardelli square in San Francisco where the original chocolate factory was located it is now a popular shopping/dining area and tourist destination . Their chocolate squares have different fillings caramel is only one. Peppermint bark squares is a popular Christmas seasonal item.

Ghiradelli is awesome. I go for the dark chocolate and sea salt caramel squares myself. My wife bought some recently that are peppermint bark.Yum! Glad to see Ohio represented well in this one. Each state has a state bird and a state tree. Ohio is the Buckeye state. They grow on trees but aren't edible. Indianas state tree is the Tulip Poplar. Looks like he sent you state related items. How nice. 😊

See, The US can do sweets as long as you buy quality. Many of those are probably specialty sweets (Buckeyes are the official candy of Ohio, I believe.) Ghirardelli is extremely good chocolate.

In the USA, peanuts are also referred to as goobers which is a word derived from their name in Africa. Same for the word gumbo which comes from an African word for okra.

The "G" in Ghirardelli is pronounced as a hard "G" as in "Goat." (Say "GEE-ra-delly") To me, they are second only to Lindt which I still remember "Bon Appetit" magazine judging as 1 of the top 10 chocolates in the world. I don't eat sweets and it's so fun to watch you eating them.🤣

Scharffen Berger from San Francisco beats all other American chocolates and most European as well. Also Ghirardelli is pronounced: GEAR r Deli.

Lindt is a midrange chocolate. Better than Hershey, but not as good as Dove or Ghirardelli. The reason it costs as much as Ghirardelli, is simply because it's imported from Europe, so you're paying for overseas shipping, on a low-volume item. Honestly it's not worth it, Ghirardelli costs about the same and is much better.

Kabir - one of the best things about traveling around the USA is our wonderful regional differences. I've never heard of this brand of snacks before. We certainly don't have them in Texas!! But they could say the same thing about the wonderful comistables that come from my state, or just from my region of my state!! Grew up outside San Francisco and absolutely loved going to Ghiradelli Square and even though you had to stand in line forever we always got sundaes at the chocolate factory. They had a demonstration "museum" showing how they make the chocolate.

A lot of Smoothie shops use Ghirardelli frappe mix in their drinks too. Tropical Smoothie uses it in all the drinks with chocolate for instance

And the difference in culture is always so shocking to them when they come here or we go there and tell them about it, from tipping, to smoking etc and now I see this video of yours on the snacksQq When I do visit, I am always sure to bring a suitcase of "American snacks " for my cousins in Sicily So Love your work!

Just like the Budweiser video, I also live near an Anthony Thomas shop (they make multiple chocolates and sweets). If you keep making videos about stuff that's made (or has factories) in Ohio, people will eventually be able to pinpoint my location 😂 Buckeyes are a big deal in Columbus; the candy, the football team, the football band... Every Ohio school bakesale as at least one person making homemade buckeyes to sell. Admittedly, I'm partial to mint chocolate myself.

As an Ohioan, this just made me happy. Krema is wonderful. You can go and tour their factory, but also buy a sandwich with a nut (peanut, cashew, almond, etc...) butter and jelly/jam (different fruit flavors), honey, marshmallow cream, or plain. So good!

Okay...I’m jealous!! I am originally from So Cal...and See’s candies have been apart of my life...FOREVER!! My grandparents lived in San Francisco for many years...and we’d buy See’s chocolates whenever we went to visit!! When my husband and I were on vacation in San Francisco...we were given a piece of See’s candy in one of their shops... It was See’s bordeaux... We immediately had them hand-pack a box of bordeaux “to go”...!!

Here in Maryland we do crab chips. We put Old Bay on pretty much everything! We are known for steamed blue crab in Old Bay seasoning. We take our crab and Old Bay addiction seriously.;Merry Christmas!

I make buckeyes for Christmas every year, freshly made is delicious and simple. Ghirardelli and caramel are superb, love them. I can eat an entire bag lol I then have to workout extra hard to work the calories off 🤣. I'm not a peanut fan unless they're the Boston baked beans style...red candy coated peanuts...strange considering I like buckeyes lmao. Cashews, 😋 yummy.

You think bark, like it may be hard, nope! I give it a 10! We didn't know yet if we'd like it, so we bought a lil 2 pack, just like yours, packaged ever so beautifully and let me just say I'm joking.... but I'm a great person, who shares and all. Well, I tasted mine while he was at work, and it is so delicious, that it takes you from being a good person to making this phone call, " Uh-uh, love you babe, but I'm eating yours as well, and please bring a bigger bag home, sorry!
