Harold Wilson's Government had a clear choice to either be accepted within the EEC or become the 51st US State. It was clearly stated in the 2016 EU Referendum that a vote for Brexit could only ever mean the UK becoming the 51st US State in the long term as the UK would need to replace its large and closing trading partner being the EU. Brexiteers believed and promoted that the UK could easily be a member of the Trans Pacific Partnership with trade between Australia, New Zealand, North and South America. The concept of the EU IMO is good. The ability to work, travel, live & share a common currency makes sense. But, it may have been planned from the beginning, it probably was, when a government, or 27 governments tell us they are doing something to improve our lives, run away as fast as you can. Agree with most of what you have to say, but surely the EU is also subservient to the US (despite being in an abusive relationship for around 20 years since the Euro emerged as a competitor to the US $). While Britains beleif in a special relationship with the US tte same is not reciprocated. For the British their special relationship with their early colony is a delusion. In more modern times, The United States has provided a srmall number of Nuclear-powered submarines (SSN) to the Royal Navy. The Nuclear propolsion technology is highly secret and the reactor can only be accessed by American specialists trained by the USN. Australia will operate their US nuclear powered Submarines under the same conditions when the the first of three arrives sonetime during the mid 2039's. These will be Australia's frontline defence against what Australia believes to be Chinese agression in the region. Britains only special relationship with the United States is that of a junior partner. Its a nesseserely yet patronising relationship America has with The British. Right now Britains Royal Navy has in its fleet a brand spanking Aircrft Carrier, the first of three I believe. These are the Queen Elizabeth Class and were bank breakingly expensive. Not having a suitable carrier based fighter aircraft to deploy of British manufacture the RN Carriers will be equipped with American Lockheed Martin F35 fighter jets. One rather ingloriously landed short of the flight deck and slipped back into the sea. Because the incident occurred in the South China Sea during an intimidation mission by the RN, the Chineses CCP Government offered their assistance with the fighter jet's retrieval however this good neighbour offer was politely declined, determined by security concerns no doubt. How was brexit under any Tory administration ever going to be anything other than a complete catastrophe? Brexit has been a titanic act of self-harm - indeed, most accurately described as the first instance of any country in history introducing sanctions upon itself. I'm open-minded on Mr Galloway's contention of brexit being a necessary condition for Britain to fully flourish, however it seems to me that a successful brexit was and is totally dependent upon competent political and economic leadership with a clear vision and the steely determination to pursue and execute that vision.
