‘Britain Makes Big Mistake' | David Cameron’s Meeting With Donald Trump

UK foreign secretary David Cameron met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a joint press conference, where he urged Congress to approve a further $60 billion support package for Ukraine, warning that if they didn’t, Russian president Vladimir Putin may well win the war.
Cameron also met with former president Donald Trump, in what has been described as “a private meeting that was in line with the precedent of ministers meeting with opposition politicians”.
The Spectator’s deputy editor, Freddy Gray thought that David Cameron realised he had messed up on a previous visit to the United States by offending many Republicans, when he told them not to be like historic Britain who appeased Hitler.
The conference didn't work though, as Cameron didn't get the meeting he needed with the most important person involved with the aid package, the US House of Representatives speaker, Mike Johnson.
Freddy Gray said on the UK’s relationship with the US: “Britain makes a big mistake by thinking that America thinks a lot about us.”

Why do British politicians think they can insult half the American population and still have a special relationship? At least Britain seems to be carrying their own weight, unlike the rest of Europe. But seriously come to America to ask for money and insult the people you are asking it from? Who’s divisive and stupid? And add elitist.

@@eugenebell3166 dry polite question. Thanks, that’s lacking on KZbin in general. But, I’m not sure how the point changes regardless of why they are asking for it. Personally, I don’t think we are doing enough in Ukraine. That war should have been over a long time ago. But, there is a reasonable argument of why we are sending money all over the world and not taking care of our own. You don’t win that discussion by insulting the people proposing it. It seems reasonable to me that we expect all the NATO countries who haven’t been fulfilling their obligations- it is a treaty after all, not a charity- to step up and fund the majority of what it takes to keep Russia off their doorstep. Why is it rational that if Trump insults someone it’s divisive but if any one else does it, it’s what? Diplomatic? No, it’s also divisive.

@@bluehannah8696 Always happy to sensibly debate. I accept that ‘some’ NATO members may not be paying the full contribution, of which Britain is not one. My concern is I am convinced that if Putin is allowed to take Ukraine he will attempt to expand that goal to NATO countries, an obvious choice would be Poland. This would naturally involve US soldiers on the ground in the NATO region. Trump has virtually made an invitation to Putin to do that. It may not be considered fair on the US to presently support Ukraine but in the long term it would seem a good investment. To not do so would seem a good example of cutting your nose off to spite your face.

He is our representative and when he says stupid sh1t it makes us all look bad. This is why we need better quality people in parliament. Pretty much all of our MPs no matter what party affiliation are embarrassingly bad.

Can we PLEASE have politicians with a spine who stick to their principles and morals? All we seem to promote are appeasers and sycophants who say what they think people want to hear. I know that's what politics is all about but please, lets have politicians that speak the truth and say what everyone thinks, there is no need to be rude to hold our own. Ben Wallace is one such politician as is Rory Stewart, can we drag them back into main stream politics, I would vote for both of them tomorrow to lead this country.
