Whenever we got bored (which was usually the case) with literature, poetry, drama and theater she would get very angry and scold us, saying how important they were, and being the hallmarks of culture and civilization. Most entertainer's like audience feedback though. Perhaps that's the cultural difference, though. I know American performers get their energy from the crowd hootin' and hollering, and being energetic. Stephen Fry said he always feels bad for American performers in England because of the audience reaction. But I can see that the other point of view would be respect and silence for the act. I dno, myself, I'd want to hear the audience so I could gauge my performance and get pumped up.
