In Sweden jail is 3 meals per day, a roof and if you stay long enough you can even become a Swedish citizen as you been a long time in Sweden (even if in jail). Small wonders crime is up, when its a possible way to ensuring you get residency permit.... Sounds crazy? Look up Salwan Momika who continues to get residency permit while committing crimes

As of June 2023, the total UK prison population was 95,526: As of June 2022, there were a total of 56,557 people in prison in Germany US population is 4% world population and US prison population is 25% world prison population. German population is 84 million while UK has 70. yet look at prison population between the two.

Fun fact in UK for theft (or anything else) you can be hold forever. Prisons should be for people that trully are a danger. Criminals should be helped to be quality citizens, thru education, medical help and jobs.
