Britannia lift in Cowes

A replica of the HMY Britannia arrived in Cowes during February and now needs lifting ashore to complete its construction at Venture Quays.
A crane brought in to do the job turned out not to be big enough. It was rated to lift up to 125 tons and the hull turned out to weigh 138 tons. After a short discussion she was lowered back into the water.

Aside from the economics, at least someone displayed the humility necessary to save the yacht and admit that they needed more crane. That is a leadership characteristic.

Ya ya up another 15 feet then over to left 30 feet oops because we only used two straps the bow now has a reverse shear we don't need no stinking engineers bloody hell!! Time for a Guinness! Brilliant!!!

I've seen this same floating crane a few times during my annual visits to both Southampton and the Isle of Wight and have counted myself lucky enough to see it working once on the river Medina. Never managed to find out who owns it though? Does anyone know? Port of Southampton already have their own floating crane anyway so I doubt its them.
