I wouldn't go as far as saying something outwardly positive about the Taliban, but at the same time there has scarcely been a more evil and chaotic force than ISIS in the last decade. Most insurgent/extremist militias might kidnap and ransom westerners, or otherwise exploit them for some tangible gain. ISIS would murder them just to send a message

Hello !. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. And terrorists (puppets of the Antichrist) who misinterpret verses, out of ignorance and political motivations, and take them out of historical context (just like radical atheists do by the way), don't help either. Thank you very much for your time. Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them). Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI) Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy. Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI) Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad). Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning! Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures. Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement. It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them. (19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad) Salam (Peace).

The Taliban are not good people but they are not mindless terrorists like ISIS either. In their minds they were defending their country against foreign NATO invaders, which no one can argue is the truth. With the back in power it's not surprising that they are maintaining what was leftover by the western invaders (including me 2 deployments Us Marines). Ironically the security is tighter than what NATO provided. We couldn't even secure Kabul, since the pull out attacks on the city are down 70%. ISIS-K are the true terrorists we should have been fighting. Sad thing is the CIA created them to keep the Taliban disorganized during what was planned to be a hard rebuild for them. We sanctioned them so badly that they cannot even get food in to feed children (after we burned the poppy fields adjacent to farmland).

Lots of people went over there to set up all kinds of things in the major cities after the U.S., NATO went in. One American lady went back (her father had been stationed in Afghanistan during the sixties). because she had very fond memories growing up there, and started a scouting program, and school for girls, and boys. This and that older VICE documentary on North Korea are some of the most interesting pieces of journalism ever. Showing what actually happens on the ground through a "day-in-the-life" style seems to be something entirely overlooked by a lot of journalists, and I think the fact that you told everything day by day in a sort of vlog style is just amazing, because the story tells itself. You didn't go in with an idea of what story you wanted to tell, but yet it still turned out amazing. I think the big takeaway from this video like other's have said is just that life goes on. We see in the news about all these terrible things happening in other countries, so when something like this comes around and totally shakes up your world view, it's memorable. Great video.

I'm from Bulgaria and I like walking around and discovering monuments. In my home city of Varna, I was walking around when I came across a memorial that was in French. I was so confused at first, and it turned out to be a memorial to French Marines who died while stationed in Varna during the Crimean War (in route to the front against Russia, the French Marines stayed in Varna where many died from Cholera). This is interesting because it memorialized soldiers, fighting for our former overlords, against a country which we had traditionally positive feelings towards, as our liberation was one of their aspirations, something they achieved 25 years later, in order to keep us under their thumb. So, a very awkward monument to say the least. What made it really weird is that, unlike other monuments to fallen soldiers and countries, this one was in the middle of nowhere for the city. most of them are in a park called the Sea Gardens (Primorski Gradini, or Morskata Gradina as the locals call it) and you have memorials for Ukrainian soldiers during WWII and so on. It is the most popular part of the city and they bring in a lot of attention. This memorial for French Marines was in the North West part of the city in the middle of a suburb with expensive houses where people mostly drive anyway, it's just randomly there, so it's not like anyone is noticing it. I looked into it, and apparently it used to be in the southern suburb of Asparuhovo, a pretty popular part of the city, but was moved up to the less popular area in the northern part of the city. My guess is that they want to get rid of the monument due to its history, but they risk needlessly pissing off France who holds a lot of political and economic sway. Not that the French are aware of the monument, more that if it's discovered a monument to French soldiers was destroyed, then the French would pay attention and think that Bulgarians hated them. So to play it safe, they just hid the monument out of view. Again, just my hunch.

I was in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army in 2019 and went through the base where those riot shields were. Pretty surreal to see some familiar sights that have since changed a lot. Thanks for sharing.

Just a reminder: when America "sent a trillion dollars to Afghanistan", what that mostly means is we gave a trillion dollars to American defense contractors and weapons manufacturers. That's why there are piles of unused military equipment everywhere: the main point was never to do anything but send money to these industries. What all that crap is for is beside the point. If we paid them to build equipment to dump directly in the ocean it would be a vast improvement in our foreign policy.

This. Vice has always been baity but they used to have the best on the ground content. They used to do what made CNN great in the first place. Somewhere along the line they lost the plot like CNN.
