Just a fact check for you to make and confirm please: I bought my 1st. Premier kit from Baretts in Manchester about the same time as Tommy Chase. As Liverpool did'nt have a drum store as such at the time.We understood Ringo bought his kit in Baretts.Maybe he bought it in Hessy's guitar shop and Baretts delivered it to them. We would have loved a drum shop in Liverpool at the time and we had more groups and drummers than Mani in the 60s.My Premier kit was an Aquamarine blue glitter wrap ....jazz set up. Thanks for your work BritBeat 😎

So Ringo played detuned snares. That's how he got his sound....

I know it makes me sound old but Ringo bought his kit just a few weeks before me according to Barratts at the time and i saw him use that with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes in the converted swimming baths hall in Warrington Lancashire UK. Thanks😎

AS we know Ringo has sold off much of his gear, most notably to Jim Irsay but I noticed that the 1963 Jazz Festival snare hasn't been sold. Given the personal connection between drummers and snare I presume that it remains his number one snare to this day, irrespective of the rest of the kit.

The Royal Ace snare drum is one of the best sounding snare drums ever made!

I agree! It’s an amazing and unique snare drum.

I habe a 1960 Royal Ace White Marine Pearl 14x4 snare, but I dont know which wood was used here? Birch?
@johncollins55523 жыл бұрын
Are the vintage premier snares birch shells? I like how the floor tom has more lugs for tuning than the Ludwig kit. Did they have calfskin or remos available back in the day? I love Ringo's drum setup and sound apart from his washy ride with no definition. Really enjoyed the video.

I like the sound of the root beer snare the most. I have a vintage sonor beech drums without matching snare but I haven't settled on an ideal snare yet, I have tried birch and maple but beech snares are scarce.

didn't he also use a Ludwig Supraphonic on the Revolver album ?
@PhilRounds Жыл бұрын
Ya need to do a bit of tuning on those. Crank up the snare heads! Also, the Ludwig and the Premier both have mutes built in which work better than a pack of ciggies! :P

Would Pete Best have used muffling tape ? Didn’t those snares have internal muffling.
@britbeattv3126 Жыл бұрын
Yes, the snare does have an internal muffler.

Love the video but the drums sound bad should have put a mic on them.

Sorry, but I wouldn't call going from a 60's Premier kit to a 60's Ludwig kit an upgrade.
