Naughty John, Marty and Graham: they changed their pseudonym names in the script but didn’t tell Tim as a prank. That’s why Tim seems so unsure! He rises above it though and carries on with the sketch. They all looked like they were having huge fun! Thanks for the upload: always a pleasure to watch! 👍

Watching The Goodies was a fond memory of mine growing up in the 70s. Interestingly, my favorite fast food place during that time was called Goody's. I think John, Marty and Graham add-libbed new names to prank Tim in this skit. It's wonderful.

In the original script (which is online somewhere) Graham was Elsie and Marty was Carmen. John was still Doris. The way the audience reacted it seems like they were in on the joke but I'm sure they weren't.

I found the "1948 Show" on DVD and knew very little about it at first. Lord, is it funny! I never knew Marty Feldman had ever done television. This show helped make him a star. It's hard to believe the BBC almost deleted this show from their archives.

This was ITV (Rediffusion was the company at the time.) Marty Feldman went to the BBC for his own series called Marty in 1968.

@@miksal26 yes indeed. It was originally a sketch in Beyond the Fringe on stage but I think it was also used in his tv series On The Margin in 1966. That’s where I remember seeing it I think. The series is lost apart from soundtracks which have been released. I might be wrong about that though! I do remember other things that were certainly in On the Margin like the NORWICH sketch. I was only 12.

If you are not aware of it check out 'Do Not Adjust Your Set' a children's comedy series which aired on UK TV between 1967 and 1969 and starred amongst others Michael Palin, Terry Jones and Graham Chapman with music by the Bonzo Dog Doo - Dah Band and animation by Terry Gilliam.

All of the Pythons got their starts as writers and writer/performers on shows like The Frost Report, the 1948 Show and Do Not Adjust Your Set. Of course, Spike Milligna - the well-known typing error - set the whole comedy scene alight a decade earlier with the Goon Show.

@@markvolt2070 I remember rushing home from school to watch Do Not Adjust Your Set, brilliant! And with The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band as house band too, check them out if you are not familiar with their work. Another comedy kids show (I think it was for kids anyway) I remember watching was The Telegoons in the early sixties. It was basically The Goons (Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe) made into a puppet show. Check that out as well.There is something slightly disturbing about it. No wonder I grew up a bit weird.

I once worked with a retired plod who was often assigned to duty pouf catching at gents public conveniences. He told me he had once arrested two suspicious looking women outside some public bogs in the days before PACE and couldn't understand why they wouldn't speak when questioned. His colleagues kept lookingooking into the interview room, laughing and shutting the door. Then he spotted one of them''s hairy hands. He was always known after that as the copper who couldn't tell boys from girls.
