I’m very lucky to own one of the actor’s original scripts for this exact episode. Although it’s something I really treasure, it’s the quality of the casting and their performances that make the words come alive. Simon Cadell was superb… and lovely Ruth of course - God bless them both.

I showed a lady at the supermarket the intro after she spoke over the loudspeaker and clearly felt self conscious about it. She said she remembered the name of the show but hadn't watched it before. I shouldn't have said her announcing reminded me of this because she didn't seem happy or impressed. I thought it was cute and charming. Ahh

The script forced the obvious attraction of Gladys and Jeffery along in a typical will they, won't they fashion, but Gladys was too good for him anyway, she was a fox. A classic TV program that these days will never be repeated. Roll on the revival of these sort of shows, it will happen at some point :) Hopefully sooner rather than later.

For me this show was all about Gladys and her interactions with Jeffrey and her hated for the younger yellow coats, and to a lesser extent Barry&Yvonne. I felt that the other characters were comparitivly weak, although the episde where Mr Partridge was so pissed his booth falls over was pretty funny.
