And this is why I stopped flying BA 2 years ago and now fly Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy or Upper Class where you get so much more for your money and a much better flying experience overall!

I don't agree. I've flown upper class with Virgin and it was a joke. The lunch choices was chicken tikka masala & rice or bangers & mash!!! That's appealing for what is supposed to be first class.

I believe the BA CEO comes from a budget airline background. Failure to understand the term "premium" looks like a legacy of that. An airline that actually seems intent on getting even worse as time goes on.

I have flown BA Premium Economy overseas twice and will never, ever do it again. The extra charges drive me nuts, such as having to pay for seat selection each way, and the amenities are virtually non existent. Just because you get silverware doesn't make it a Premium product. Their Business Class is also terrible. They used to be a great airline but are now just a discount carrier with lousy service.

You were lucky to get at least something you could eat. I flew BA Prem: LHR BKK and was served a dried up inedible pasta dish. I did receive a pat of butter but alas no bread roll to spread it on. I think it might have been to grease the seat. I don't travel BA at all now pore quality from start to finish.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I'm surprised the food from heathrow was so bad, normally its not so bad out of LHR. Pasta dishes are very tricky as they do indeed dry out and have no flavor apart from Salt. So I always stay clear of anything Pasta based on an aircraft. I also had the same one time from BA, they gave me the most dry roll and no butter.

I flew BA premium economy a month ago from Cape Town via Heathrow to Denver. There was no difference between the economy food...same trays, same hot alumminium trays etc..On my flight backi from Denver I could not get a seat on economy plus and sat in seat 53c in economy and found it surprisingly way better that any premium economy seat....the hand rest can fold up...the tray table was on the back of the seat infront of yoy which maks it way better to use.....this would make your seat in there a wee bit wider....depending on which seat you can get in economy, its NOT worth paying that extra money for economy plus..... another really bothersome deal is the placement of the plug for head[hones.I managed to broke two of in the process....next time I will book and buy two specific seat in economy which is better that any plus seat

When I flew out and back to San Francisco in September with BA in economy, I thought was OK, the main was quite enjoyable including a very nice chocolate ganache and the lighter snack was better than shown above, and included something hot, so either BA are getting the message or it varies from route to route.Premium Economy can definitely be worth it depending in the extra cost you can get it for, especially as Business Class is too expensive for many people.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I do love the POTS chocolate ganache, I buy it all the time, so that's one good thing BA serve with meals. On the west coast flights, they do provide more, its just the short 6 hour hops they really struggle to decide if its worth providing passengers with more or less.

We are flying to London in June from Los Angeles. I'm trying to debate whether or not we should spend the extra money on a premium economy, or just go with regular economy. I like the idea that the seats are slightly roomier, but other than that I don't think it's worth it. A little extra space would be nice on a 10+ hour flight !!

I think depending on the extra price if say $200 each for the extra leg room on an 11 hour flight can be worth it and slightly better food.

The main issue for me is leg room because I am quite tall. I have bought a BA Premium Economy ticket because I have an upcoming 12 hour flight to Rio and 12 hours folded up like a Tetris block for me is torture. I always joke that P/E is the coach experience from 25 years ago. We flew BA Premium Economy out of PHL last month. We were on a 787, so the configuration was 2-3-2, which feels a bit more spacious. I don't care for P/E myself, but my husband is 6'4'' and my son is 6'3'', so they really need the extra space. Our "breakfast" upon landing was a packaged soft pretzel with cream cheese spread on it and coffee served in a cup that was only slightly larger than a thimble.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I agree that if you are very tall, then the price can indeed be worth it for the extra leg room alone. It sounds like they did improve the arrival snack a bit on your flight, which is nice to know. Thanks for watching and the comment.

The problem with “Premium” economy here is that the only stand-out difference is the food, which basically only makes the main course higher than economy. After flying on Qatar Airways, economy class, i can safely say it’s way more comfortable and servicing than this. Yes, Qatar’s *economy* > BA Premium. I mean, c’mon, they’re giving you a standard british breakfast, for the MAIN course. Most other features, like the refreshment trolley, seating, headphones, hell even the amenities and Tv are basically the same as economy. Business dosen’t feel too special, it feels like what premium SHOULD have been. First class just looks fancy tbh. *periodt.*
@MPDLR2 жыл бұрын
It looks great, BUT - no special check-in is almost a deal killer for me. I don't expect lavish meals or lounges for Premium Economy. BUT - I'd need shorter check in line, and pre-boarding of some sort. I'm only restarting international travel now after many years - - right now Virgin appeals to me for Premium

If you are pay for premium economy on BA then make sure that you get a refitted aircraft because the old cabin is abysmal and not worth the expense. Plus the 747s and 777-200s are tired with regular delays due tech issues.

When I Travel The World BA really need to up their game because their golden routes are being invaded by low cost airlines. Take NYC for example, Norwegian fly for cheaper in their premium cabin on brand new aircraft (more economical). Now BA can lower their fares to compete and cut costs or build a reputation for Being a flag carriering airline with outstanding service etc. They are slowly alienating their client base. Businesses people don't want to fly with them and the people who would pay a bit more would now rather save their money because they feel that they don't get what they pay for, less leg room [because of added rows of seats on A320/21] on European flights and less food service on long haul. It's all about reputation. I would happily pay more for the likes of Singapore Airlines on long haul because I know that I will be flying on a new aircraft and receiving some of the best service in the sky. R. I. P BA.

If there's not a big difference in seat comfort or leg room, I don't see an almost $200 reason to upgrade to premium economy, especially if you don't get the Heathrow Lounge, which is very nice.The ONLY thing I would definitely say is NOT to book a flight with partner, American Airlines. My last flight I wasn't paying attention and it was awful. No food, no entertainment, NOTHING.

Thanks for the video - impressed that you were able to dub the ATC dialogue. I disagree with an earlier comment that said BA has not moved on since the early 2000s as they have - backwards !!! I am now ashamed to admit I worked for them for 38 years and flew to a large lump of the planet in that time - including many times to JFK and back. I left 10 years ago and the product was starting to decline then after the mass exodus of managers who new what running a premium airline was about, and Walsh and his acolytes set about dismantling all we had built.

Thank you, glad you liked it. No need to be ashamed to have worked for a company for a long period of time, it's not your fault. I bet they were really fun to work for from the 80's - 00's. But the hard product really does need an update to stay competitive, its a bit of a let down.

Thanks for your generosity. Yes it was great fun working in the golden years of aviation when it was more of a luxury and less of a commodity. Had to use BA to BKK due to EVA air strike in May '19. Had to pay more on BA Premium Eco and from the checking in at LHR it was downhill all the way to BKK. Check in was slow with non working machine. Once seated I have immediately noticed the ripped seats with broken screen which had a crack and not able to adjust the angle. Also the movie selection was poor with the colour quality from the 70's!! I was given a menu but I was given a left over and this happened on both journey(LHR-BKK-LHR). Also the CA will not give me more than 1 diet coke can(small size)!! I never experienced this with airlines like Virgin, Lufthansa, JAL, ANA and even Ryan Air!! It’s the first and last I’ll ever fly BA. My original flight from Heathrow to Sydney via Singapore was cancelled and they put everyone in the airport hotel and gave us only £10 in food and drink vouchers. I’ve flown British several times mostly in First, sometimes Business. IMHO, their First Class service is no better than others Business Class and Business Class no better than others Premium Economy. What a disgrace! The BA service has gone downhill rapidly over the years. Whatever the price difference is between Economy and WT plus proves by your video it's not worth it. I use to fly BA regularly in both Business and First. Now I try and avoid flying with them unless no other choice literally. I experienced Club Europe last year with them flying From London to both Barcelona and Athens. It was a disgrace regarding the offerings of so called food. They are now a budget airline full stop. I love the fact that BA has a daytime flight from the East Coast U.S. to London. The only reason for overnight flights is that it enables the airline to turn the plane around...and fly right back to Boston, JFK, etc., not because it makes sense to have a 5.5-6 hour eastbound overnight flight--for anyone! I've flown the BA Premium Economy product once (westbound) and found it quite enjoyable. Different aircraft, though, so that may have been a part of the reason, but for me it was a very good experience, and I'd fly it again. No coach for me...ever...if I have any way to avoid it.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I do really enjoy the daytime flights from the East coast to London, it makes Jet Lag a lot easier to handle. The other reason they have this is for the late night arrival of the London to JFK flight that lands very late and I think the airport closes down during midnight to 5am, so there would be no one to handle the turnaround. I have flown BA premium economy a few more times and have had an OK experience. But this one was just pretty bad.

And that is how the premium economy experience should be, it should have a lot better standards than the airlines economy experience. I received almost the same food from BA in economy on this route.

When I was flying on the company dime, it was nice to travel up front ... First or Business ... on International flights. But, now that I'm paying, I would never spring for any premium product, especially for a flight of only six hours. Much cheaper to carry on some gourmet food and have your own little party with the exact food you enjoy.
@Whenitraveltheworld5 жыл бұрын
Yes the price difference between economy and business/first can be massive, so I fully understand where you are coming from.

Great video.......I have cc always loved flying on British Airways to London / Lagos..... never had any reason or reasons to complain in any form of negative way. Great video, wonderful crew cab at all time, in my own personal experience.

Try Virginia Atlantic next time, the premium economy is fantastic great food, tons of snacks drinks and great seats.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I have indeed flown Virgin Atlantic PE and agree with you, which is why this flight is so poor compared to other airlines.

You are right -- that pre-arrival snack is just bonkers....apparently they are enhancing that service element this year. About time.
@Whenitraveltheworld5 жыл бұрын
Yes the pre arrival snack could really use some enhancements.

I don't think many airlines get Prem Econ right. Had similar experience on Lufthansa. Only positive was wider seat, more leg room. Next flight is to London, wanted to fly business with BA but Lufthansa was $1,000 less.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I agree, its very hard to pull it off as it needs to be better than economy, but not as good as business class. Have a great trip on your next flight.

I love this review so much! I wouldn't expect a second meal on a 6 hour flight, but maybe at least some fruits or pastry would be nice. I like the Cathay 777 at the end of the vid👌🏻
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I agree, i'm not fussed about the second meal, but in premium at least make it a pastry or small sandwich. I flew the exact same route on United EWR-LHR and they gave out a meal, a snack and then a small sandwich before landing, and that's United in economy class.

Enjoyed your vlog, and I think that you are so right to feel let down by BA with premiumEconomy! I used to be proud to fly BA but, now I would make them almost my last choice!Its very sad to see how really bad that they have become. BA MANAGEMENT - SORT IT OUT FAST!
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. It is a shame about BA, but I will be honest and say that they are some of the best crew's I have ever had, so I can't blame them for the big boys at BA cost cutting everything and i'm fairly sure it embarrasses them a bit.
@kenchew50026 жыл бұрын
As long as people continue to fly them, they will will keep delivering the poor product everyone expects.
@maddies91426 жыл бұрын
Robert Stugeon Ok I agree with this however I just want people to know that BA staff work really hard and the management is awful . I know someone who worked for them And there job is being forgotten about no one cares about it. So BA are literally kicking so many of their workers out the window and it’s ridiculous.

Totally agree with your comments on Premiere Economy on BA - I will even go as far to say that Business class is not the best either. Tried both twice (just to make sure) I will never fly BA transatlantic again. Plenty of other options to pond hop now.

I agree, that vending machine pre- arrival snack is a disgrace, and only serves to confirm that P.E is the airline's most profitable sector.

WOW. I'm pricing flights for a multi city trip and the price difference for the exact itinerary in economy VS premium economy is well over a thousand dollars. Nope! Going to have to stick with regular economy fare here because I don't see how on earth they justify that massive of a price jump for a goody back and some extra snacks?! Thank you for posting this, it's super helpful!
@Whenitraveltheworld5 жыл бұрын
Sure thing, that's why I made it, so people can watch it and decided if its good value to pay the extra.

6 hours use economy esp a day time flight...all others I would go Premium for leg room...way more important on long 11 hour flights from California to UK. .
@scotishtaffy6 жыл бұрын
Have to agree, the ticket price does not reflect a premium food product, as you said they could make the tray all China and definitely upgrade that snack. Great video as always.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Andrew, yes just adding a few China plates to make it all nice would be a real bonus, just gives it a slightly premium feel and if they let premium passengers use a priority check in lane, especially as there would be a max of 30-40 premium passengers on each flight.

I flew with BA from Gatwick to Atlanta in Jan 2018 on one of the old 777's with the tired blue interior and washed out IFE screens which are about the same size as my kindle. I am sure anyone flying BA regularly knows what I am talking about. I flew a similar non-upgraded 747 from Heathrow to Miami 2/3 years ago as well. Service was poor on both flights. I do a lot of cruising and have no control who the cruise line use for their carrier or sadly I would never use BA. I wanted to upgrade from WT to WT+, which is basically just a larger seat and was quoted an additional "£500" ONE WAY! Both return flights were with AA. What a difference.!
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
Yep that's what i'm on about, when its just a small amount to upgrade it can be worth it, but when its 500, that's when if someone buys it for that price, that is indeed a joke for the service you get.
@leesimpson16776 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention, when I looked into the WT+ cabin during the flight, there was only one person sitting in it, and the plane itself was only about 70% full. I wonder why?
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I think BA struggle a bit to fill the aircraft on this route, when Delta fly it multiple times a day and it's their hub.
@willemduitemeijer16836 жыл бұрын

Thanks for sharing. Now how is the leg room? Your right about the plastic stuff. Looks like how economy used to be years ago. Now everything is smaller and they give you less

The legroom is actually fine for me at 6ft, so that is one of the added bonuses.

I’m booked on a 7 hour flight from NY to London on economy on BA. in anyone’s opinion is it worth an upgrade? It’s a good 500 more. Is economy on BA terrible? Thanks

Just from my research into an upcoming long haul trip the only airlines who offer anything like service and comfort are Singapore, Etihad & Emirates, seems to me that BA area helluva long way back.
@MarcusFeyFey6 жыл бұрын
Very eye-opening and interesting trip report! From what I see there is zero what makes the additional charge worthwhile..... Serving the same food in china instead of plastic is not better in any way (actually it's worse because the meal gets colder much quicker)
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, I think the main benefit is the extra legroom and slightly more personal space and not being crammed into someone right next to you. But the food part, not much better.
@thebraine1006 жыл бұрын
Nice contrast with your American Airlines main cabin extra vid. This service really doesn’t compare, does it?! You are right about the ‘meal’ shortly before landing!

BA Premium Economy looks more economy than premium. The catering looked below standard, particularly the pre landing offering. Lazy product development.

Just travelled Australia/UK premium economy. Usually fly Qantas. Never again BA. what did I get for my money. Not a lot. Ba I suggest you fly with Qantas to find out how it should be done!
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
I agree, Qantas has a much better product in premium compared to BA.
@Horizon301.6 жыл бұрын
In economy the scrapped the second meal to offer you a breakfast bar. It’s pretty shocking and ultimately I was just comparing everything to Qatar. Thankfully the B747 was the new interior but still it wasn’t an amazing experience and surprisingly the B747’s with their newer interiors look better than the retrofitted B777’s
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
Yeah its a really bad second meal, granted I think people will be ok for the short flight, but its more a joke than a meal.

I agree with you, that is not a competitive product! But the same goes IMHO for BAs Business Class
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
That's very true, I think every frequent flyer in the world knows that BA's business class really needs an update.
@cansw816 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, the second meal is a slight embarrassment, the price difference at times between WT and WT+ can be ridiculously expensive, in some comes almost £600 in difference (e.g. LHR-YUL). Although I love the WT+ cabin with BA on the Dreamliner, they do need to make the meal service, especially the second one, more premium. They should also be doing the bar service with actual glass and not a plastic tumbler to put your gin & tonic into! Although I was upgraded from WT to WT+, I wouldn't pay for WT+ simply because the service doesn't match the cabin experience.
@Whenitraveltheworld6 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I agree with you. I mean for me it was just a $50 difference so no real harm, but when people who don't fly often spend 300-500 more on the ticket and think its going to be a wonderful experience and they get something like this, that's not really on.
