BRITISH AND CANADIAN PHILIPPINES ROAD TRIP - Samar Province Celebration! (BecomingFilipino)

The BecomingFilipino and Kumander Daot Road Trip across the Philippines continues... that is a Canadian and a British man... although both feeling very local with our life experience here in the Philippines!
On this day, we leave Tacloban City and head north through Samar. As we enter Samar, we pass San Juanico bridge... one of the longest in the Philippines! The road then gets very bumpy, but this local Province in the Philippines is beautiful! I love exploring Samar! And well... on this day, it happened to be Samar day celebrations in Catbalogan City! We literally drove up to a giant float parade! It was awesome!
Hanging out with my friend who is the Regional Director of tourism... I managed to score us some local Tuba! Eastern Visayas really has amazing tuba! We head north and end up stopping for dinner in Calbayog...
The Philippines Province road trip continues... we are headed north!
Driving across the Philippines is always full of surprises!

I remember the first time, San Juanico bridge was open newly , built, im still young likem you , l like travel , we went to san juanico just to take picture, from leyte long driving to samar, nice expiernce, those were the days, take care.

That looked like the Fat American burger. It has 3 patties and the largest single burger on the menu. All the burgers at Mango are cheeseburgers unless you specify no cheese. They do have a special request burger that is actually 5 patties (5 different burgers), but it's more of a group thing and requires 24 hours notice when ordering it. I believe he calls it "Stairway to Heaven". It comes with lots of sides and shaped kind of like stairs.

Thanks for posting this vlog Kulas! Featuring our province & its capital city - the cramped yet “captivating” Catbalogan! Lols. That’s raw & rugged adventure for you guys! 😄 and in behalf of the Samareños who truly love their “iroy nga tuna” (motherland), pasensya na po for the rough roads! We know how it feels-i particularly know how it feels as we oft travel by land to & from Samar to/from elsewhere & v.v. Hopefully maaayos din yan before the end of this administration’s term, considering the current president is half-“Waray”. ☺️ I can remember in my college years during the early part of ex-pres. GMA’s 2nd term these roads were newly revamped & freshly asphalted. While the ones in Leyte were still partly “so-so”… now it’s the other way around. 😉 We are hopeful though to elect a national politician from the locality to expedite & augment these kinds of projects in the province. Since from my own observation, it seems that provincial infra in & around the country gets prioritised when somebody from somewhere gets elected to national posts & so they get to do something about these matters. I can likewise remember when i was younger when the highways in Mindanao weren’t like the way they are now (nice & wide). Until some politicians from down there got national posts. Anyhow, what i’m really saying is thanks for pointing it out for the proper authorities to take note of, and as we all can see, they are already beginning to get “fixed”. 😜 You’re always welcome to visit our humble province & hope to finally catch up wid you guys some other time! 🤛🏼💪🏻♥️🇵🇭

My grandparents in my dad' s side of the family are from Basey, Samar. I been to their place once when I was a child of six or seven perhaps. My dad's family own a property on top of a hill where their house was built. We are the 3rd generations of the Duran' s family, my dad's family name. It was a beautiful piece of property overlooking the Pacific ocean. We lost that property because nobody from my dad's side of the family continued to pay the taxes. My older brother from Manila, before his demise ( death ), wanted to get the property back from the municipality, but I guess it was expropriated & auctioned off to the highest bidder. We heard a lawyer owns it now, & a beautiful home is built on top. Too bad, non of my uncles took interest in paying the back property taxes then. " Well, that's life "! Nice video. That little road trip was the highlight for me. I go to that Mango Lounge all the time. I live right down the road from it. I agree it is an awesome place to go especially on live band night (Fridays). When there are a lot of people the service can be a little slow sometimes but that's because they start everything from scratch. The food is delicious and well worth the wait as far as I'm concerned. Mango has the best hamburgers on the entire island of Samar and usually have USDA steaks in stock. I hope you stop by there again soon. Let me know when/if you will be there again and I'll buy you each a beer (or soda if you're driving).

Those floats were awesome! ❤💯 Was hoping to see a close up of the carabao float, although the ship floats were terrific, too. What an eventful road trip. So much to take in, between Kumander's driving, that overloaded truck with the crazy driver, and so much to see along the way, Just watching the way that driver was tooling along like he was driving a little sports car was giving me anxiety. I was waiting for something to drop off the back and onto the road in front of you. And, Therine is officially the pulutan queen with her little magic box of snacks, too. All that was missing was some Beer na Beer to go along with them. 😂😜

Sure you can. But you have to take a ferry from Mindanao to Samar and from Samar to Leyte. I went on a trip once from Angeles City (Luzon) to Tambis (Southern Leyte). We stopped for the night in Legazpi. I believe the entire trip, including hotel time, was about 33 hours. It was a long time ago (2000) and only my 2nd time in the Philippines, so I was a bit lost and may be wrong about the time.

I've just drove over Leyte to Samar 2 weeks ago. The road in Samar is nastiest road I've ever driven on--It punishes both the vehicle and its occupants.

That's because the national government ignores it step-child named Samar. A lot of the government funds are used elsewhere and we always seem to get the short end of the money stick.
