Nice review Sir, you should try and get a Virtus MK3 bergen so much more comfortable in my opinion, I have a love hate relationship with my old PLCE bergen but they are bombproof and built to last too.

Hiking & Survival in Japan do you happen to know how these compare to the Snugpak rocketpack that is similar to this design? I just found out about this British military version and am trying to decide between the 2...
@HikingSurvivalJapan7 жыл бұрын
The MOD rocket pouches are made to last and do what is needed. The Snugpak and Highlander pouches come with extra pockets and other add ons. But they are just as good. But most are all in MTP pattern for the troops.

A very good review but you've got the details about how the side pouches fit to waistbelt webbing (PLCE not MOLLE) wrong. Not crucial, it's academic unless users are going to walk about in full marching order! They were STILL making the green PLCE in 1992 for the British Army - the DPM PLCE is 1995 Patt PLCE, generally issued from 1996 onward. Yours is DEFINITELY the FIRST short-dated production run of the 1990 Patt PLCE: the white name label, the bright green drawstring tape and the thin hip pads are the giveaway - I'd have sworn 1988 manufacture but the markings state 1989. Might be why the lid zip runs the wrong way. Likely collectible to the right person. The side pouches are Brit issue, not necessarily Eire issue only. Green '90 Patt PLCE was issued to the British Army in two shades of green. The longback and shortback have the SAME capacity. They're actually sized for the wearer's back. I cycle with mine. I can't believe that you have the EXACT SAME light on yours!

+Andy Buckley many years ago I had the chance to use one on a rescue training weekend. Great pack, was perfect for getting in and out of a small helicopter. But I found the size lacking in what I needed for the day. But as a personal day pack it's great. If you are living in the UK or Ireland it will be easy to find.

Are you ex I.D.F or ex HM. Green forces??
@HikingSurvivalJapan8 жыл бұрын
+Belfastchild No , I was never a soldier. My role with the IDF was search and rescue, mountain rescue and heavy rescue. This was back in the late 90s and the Civil Defense force in Ireland fell under their command. The head of the CD at that time was a IDF commandant and he made sure many of us were cross trained with the IDF members. I do have a video explaining my past where I explain it more.

What are the clips on the bottom for?
@HikingSurvivalJapan3 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the clips on the rocket pouches? They clip into the side of the pack when zipped on.
@muwuny3 жыл бұрын
@@HikingSurvivalJapan No, on the bottom of the main pouch itself
@HikingSurvivalJapan3 жыл бұрын
@@muwuny on the bottom of the main pack had four male clips. Two on each side. These are mainly used to clip onto the rocket pouch , with its two matching female clips and then secured with the two zippers. These makes a small pocket behind the rocket pouch which you can store items. But remember small items may fall out the bottom. The clips will hold larger items from sliding out of said pocket. If your pack has other clips then these . I can not help you answer this question and refer you to watch other people’s videos on this pack which may answer your question. Thank you for watching this old video of mine.

They are all over eBay!! m.ebay.com/itm/G2-Used-British-Army-DPM-Camo-PLCE-Bergen-Day-Sack-Side-Pouch-Yoke-Rocket-Pocket-/ The thing that holds the pouches together is called a "Yoke" it's name comes from the straps that goes on horses to pull carts. Hope this helps!!
