I compare British Army Basic Training to US Marine Corps Basic Training. What major difference are there between the British Army and US Marine Corps when we are in Basic Training, I am looking at Recruits under pressure from there Drill Sgt.I also look at the Assault Course and Parts of the Cruicible. Find out my verdict at the end of this reaction video.

Brother it has nothing to do with just appearance. It's the discipline and the pride of taking care of your gear or "kit" as you guys call it. "Appearance and pride in your uniform" is just one of the ways they motivate you to have military discipline. You have to remember a lot of these guys were slobs and didn't even know how to make their bed before joining. Tattoos usually come later most Marines I know have full sleeve tattoos. But they discourage it on your hands, neck etc if your going to do a embassy guard or MSG duty because you represent the U.S. around the world around foreign dignitaries and politicians.

19:40 we are allowed to have tattoos, but if they are visible while wearing just a t-shirt and shorts, they need to get approved to make sure they aren’t offensive or gang related.

As far as I know there are similar rules about tattoos not being offensive or gang related. I doubt one could get into the British army with a swastika tattoo even if it could easily be covered up ha!

Should be titled "British soldier tells why he thinks U.S. Marines are inferior." This is basically a recruiting video. Definitely shows the softer side of the marines. Honestly it sounds like you're still upset over somebody's comments two years ago, so all the commentary was very defensive. Just how it came across to me.

I felt that too. I think me and the fellas educated him. I doubt he'll make that mistake twice. U should check out Gen dit commando on YT. He's an ex royal marine commando who served alongside my brothers in the USMC. He's very humble and shows alot of respect for the U.S military. Especially the Marines. It's not biased or negative. I was very disappointed with this reaction as well but I don't think he knows much about us so I tried not taking It personal.

Also, you only see what they want you to see in these videos. When the camera is off it is way different than what you are seeing here - They also leave much stuff out. There is also much more training after boot camp, and then as Marines you are not just a recruit - The level of expectation is much higher Sir.

The video that you are watching seems as though it is made to make Marine Corp look acceptable to the "mothers of the world" As a Retired Marine myself. This is the softest version of the Marine Corps I have ever seen. I would agree with most of what you said. The USMC boot camp is not as easy as this video looks like. With that still about 85-90% of the recruits will pass. It is mostly a mental game. As far as combat training Basic training is very basic. The real combat training comes after when all the new Marines go to either Marine Combat Training or The School of Infantry depending on there job in the Marines.

U.S. Army soldier here. Regarding your question about the tattoo policy in our military, I don't know much about the other branches, but in the Army, you cannot have any tattoos or brands on the head, face, above the t-shirt neckline, or hands (except Soldiers may have one ring tattoo on each hand). Soldiers can, however, have as many tattoos as they want on their chest, arms, torso, and legs.

I have two sons in the Marines. They both watched these types if videos before going in. Both of them told me it didn't really prepare them for boot camp. My younger son was better prepared because his older brother coached him. I imagine it is similar for your armed forces. Congrats on your wedding and I hope you enjoyed Texas. I love San Antonio.

In the marines it is very frowned upon to have tatoos but you can after you get in. The marines are all about appearance. The army on the other hand Ik forsure that you can have tattoos because I have tattoos and just enlisted.

A direct MOS translation of your British Army job into US Army code is 19D. Called Cavalry Scout. A job more likely to be in armor Battalions. Doing recon for tank units. Could also be assigned to armored Infantry units. Infantry codes are 11x for regular Infantry, or, 18x for Special Forces. The US Marine Corp doesn't have a direct translation. There are reconnaissance units in the US Marines but are more on foot and are amphibious in nature. The USMC code is 0321. I spent my US Army time as a heavy mortar crewman. MOS code 11C. The USMC code is 0341 for mortar crewmen. All mortar sizes.

Reference your Casevac gripe: they are walking for safety. The casualty has no helmet on. If they drop the casualty he will probably get a concussion. It's probably happened in the past so that's why they walk. It also teaches the "Leave no Marine behind" philosophy.

What you call “Show” I call discipline. I’m not saying the British forces wouldn’t but a Marine will be as disciplined on his death as he would be the day the became a Marine. The video that brought it home to me is a Marine recruit has broken his leg and is screaming “My leg, my leg” and the instructor just screams “MY MY MY This fucking recruit!!! You’ll die with this discipline” and you like to compare BASIC marine training to advanced military training and MOS, you talk like you have a chip on your shoulder against the US military, I mean I guess I don’t blame you, the finest fighting force in the world was displelled by some dudes with pitchforks and some French boats

I would love to see some videos about the difference between training regimes for officers or reserves. I understand that, like you said, training is designed to get people trained up to the same standard, but are reservists given more leeway since they aren't expected to deploy as readily? Are officers who might be aiming to work in office based roles like greenys expected to achieve similar fitness standards to infantry? Anyway, great videos and congrats on your marriage!

Marines now days have to take a physical fitness test before you even get to go to bootcamp anymore they won't let you go to bootcamp if you can't pass before signing your contract. When I was a Marine in 1989 you could be out of shape but when my son went in 2017 he had to pass a fitness test while in high school before he could go to bootcamp.

It's called DEP or Delayed Entry Program. Usually lasts about 6 months before you ship out. Most recruiters will take two days out of the week (mine does) to help poolees do PT in order to pass the required PT test. About twice a month, there's a mandatory event where you go and do your PT test and once you pass, you're cleared to go to boot either on or before your predetermined ship out date. If you don't, they'll extend the time by a few months and if you still don't, you're out.

USMC Afghan vet here. Let me explain a little: Yes, the tattoo police is bs, and the majority of Marines and individuals in the military in general can’t stand it. I understand why they have it, professional appearance, etc, but my thought process was, if you want warriors on the field of battle that can not only fight, but intimidate the enemy with their appearance, why wouldn’t you want guys covered in tattoos? Tattoos have been the marks of warriors for centuries. It never really made sense to me. One last thing I’d like to explain: the primary difference between us military training, and uk (or just European) military training in general, is how we handle our basic training, at least from what I’ve observed. Think of it like this: in European basic training, the goal is to create an extremely well trained soldier, who is capable right off the bat at being just that: a soldier. Sure they go through extra training after they graduate, but the primary bulk of their training is “finished”. In the US, basic training for us is treated more of a right of passage. It’s a haze fest to see who’s committed, to both their branch and the country. It’s more to develop mental strength than actual soldierly training. Of course, our guys are still trained, but the actual bulk of your mos and infantry training is done after you graduate (whether at a specialty school or at your unit). Boot camp for the American military puts a focus more on a test of will, fortitude, and your grit. You graduate? Cool, you can be a part of us, and now you’ll get trained. That doesn’t mean European militaries don’t require their recruits to have the same qualities, but I feel like the focus on those things is the primary concern when it comes to our basic training. Not saying either or is superior. Just my opinion based on my experience in the Marine Corps, and from what I’ve seen of other basic training from allied militaries.

Crucible is 3 MREs one per day not 3 per day
@sdhodge5923
@sdhodge5923 3 ай бұрын
All of this is to prepare Marines for combat, its repetitiveness. The Crucible is 54 hours, starts a 0:200, 2.5 MRE's ( about 3000 calories), over 48 miles of hiking, 45 pounds gear, flak jacket, riffle 36 warrior stations, 29 team building exercises, 6 hour sleep 54 hours is not a week. Then when you're earn the title of a United States Marine 🇺🇸 you then go to infantry school and learn how to use all kinds of things grenades and M 50's ect then you go to your MOS you job for the Marine Corp. You need to watch a lot more MCRD videos. Its not rainbows and lollipops! I raised a Marine and i love everything British but i think if your military went to war with our American citizens you guys would lose. You all are a little week and not very patriotic whats up with that? You should watch these videos with a little less jealousy.

On the subject of appearance, if you're back in the rear you better be looking dressed and pressed which is mostly none infantry units and boy do they get creative.

Boy your arrogance! You sound salty as hell.😂 I’m thinking not all countries have to be uniform in their military training so you sound critical for no reason. If the British military does it different, so be it. Maybe you shouldn’t do “comparison” videos about training because you aren’t unbiased with your observations. Saying the difference in training is one thing but putting down the training of another country just reeks of rudeness and is in bad taste, IMO.

You couldn't last one day through U.S. Boy Scout training. The first day... well, that's Pizza day, that's an easy day. But day TWO, that's when the real hell begins. That's when they separate the Webelos from the Wannabes. That's the day you get the kerchief, flashlight, Swiss Army knife, and your beige shorts, and believe me, no one looks good in beige shorts! Don't even get me started about the jamboree's. The first rule of Boy Scout Jamboree is that YOU DON'T TALK about the Boy Scout Jamboree. But I will say this, we lost a lot of good Scouts that weekend. Danny had a case of the sniffles, a couple came down with food poisoning, Let's be honest, they lost a bet, they were eating worms, we all say it... and poor Tommy, he had a run-in with a bobcat. But I made it through, and I'm a better man for it.
