@@philwhiting5769 I completely agree but the U.K. MoD a few years ago placed a contract with German arms manufacturer, Rheinmettal. The first units were pulled out of the line, had their gun removed for modification & shipped to Germany for the work to be done but as yet NOTHING has been done by Rheinmettal. Apparently the 12 units going to Ukraine are the next Challenger 2’s that were supposedly to be upgraded by Rheinmettal AFTER the initially modified Chall’2’s had been RTU’d. At least these 12 beauties will have no shortages of ammunition to pick off Russian T-72’s, T-62’s, T-54’s & their newest offering (76mm?) T-34’s.

That was extremely entertaining and informative . There is just so much to learn in a short time , but the Ukrainian soldiers are more than willing and seem up to the task ! I’m from the U.S. and the British have always been our best battle buddy’s . Their work is always top notch ! If these people were trained by them British then you know they were trained right !

That's a thought I've been having lately. Many Ukrainian refugees (civilans) are supporting their country as translators with their language skills. I'm glad they can help, I have Ukrainian friends and met a few refugees whose only desire is to do *more*. What they do is good for their country and their morale. Here, I'm specially thinking about the refugees, many feel very depressed.

Известно, что тяжелые машины были отправлены на Украину, а вот сами бойцы остались на британских базах. По словам западных инструкторов, с самого начала подготовки украинские танкисты «максимально пренебрежительно» относились к занятиям и весь материал усваивали очень плохо. Также большинство экипажей открыто заявляли, что отказываются возвращаться на родину. Некоторые из них даже пытались дезертировать, но их ловили и возвращали обратно.

"In a few weeks" Well, wherever they are (France, Poland, Germany, UK, etc.) Ukrainians soldiers being trained are shown "a little bit more" than what you hear on the news. That's the reason they're so quick to learn when this or that country gives a go for a new equipment. And that is totally fine by me ! :)

@@herrhaber9076 Normally when soldiers are trained, basic training or training on a system, it takes much more time, because the hours are used different. Here it is 12 h, 6 days a week and very concentrated on the task they have to do. That saves time in school.

Don't want to be horrible but it's just "Ukraine" now and yes it would be nice if they could have a lot of them. Unfortunately the UK didn't build a lot and has partially lost the ability - not that it couldn't build it back but all at great cost. To me it seems wiser in the end for NATO to choose a standard tank and buy the intellectual property rights so that any country in NATO can make the same tanks locally and still be able to share components, ammunition, etc.

What will not have been shown is how Commanders are also trained in battlefield tactics developed by the UK over many years. Ukraine will have followed the Soviet game plan but now they are getting NATO MBTs UK and NATO tactics are very different and layered but they now have the 3 key elements from the UK - Spartan armoured reconnaissance vehicles, Challenger MBT and AS90 tracked artillery. These guys (and their translators and instructors are bloody impressive. Interesting to see a US Army guy embedded with the British Army.

@@grahamtaylor4902 Great Britain intends to transfer 14 Challenger 2 tanks to Ukraine. The front line is 1,300 km long. One Challenger2 will be 100km apart from the other. I know that these are very well armored tanks and although they have outdated targeting systems, they will easily destroy Russian tanks. However, each CHALENGER 2 after hitting a mine or being hit by a KORNET missile will only be suitable for scrap. And it was not British tanks or howitzers that fought for 12 months, but Ukrainian and Polish ones. Now Poland is sending 34 modernized MIG29 aircraft and another 14 LEOPARD2 tanks and 60 PT-91 tanks.

AND to put it in perspective....for all those ruzzian fan boyz, trolls, bots and paid agents whining it is only 14 tanks so it wont make a difference. Israel had only 177 British Centurion tanks ( produced in 1945) and went up against Egypt and Syria's 2,900 russian T-54, T55 and T-62 tanks and soundly defeated them during the Yom Kippur War of 1973. So if a small number on British WW2 tanks easily defeated ten times greater numbers of russian tanks from the 1950s and 1960s......IMAGINE what a British tank from the 1990s will do to the same russian tanks from the 50s, 60s and 70s? Dont forget Ukraine also has about 100 Leopard 2 tanks now, tons of Bradleys currently... and Abrams coming later this year....Let the russian retreat begin!
