Another great video presentation. One thing most of my mates in the regular army say and I would say the same having been a reservist. Is once you’ve got through your training is life gets better. You will be under pressure on basic training or Phase 1. But the army is just getting the best out of you. These are great videos.

Your army career doesn't really start until you pass out and go to your unit, after that the world is your oyster. The army is as good as you want it to be. You can just chill out get a job in the stores and serve your time out there or you can grab every opportunity and go on every course available get yourself promoted then it's just a matter of progressing. I was in the Scots guards in the 80,s and when I passed out I went straight to Northern Ireland, after that tour I went on public duties for a year which was totally different. I was only in 6 years but I went on every course that came up, photography, medics, gunnery, driving, signals. It's a lot different in battalion than down the depot and a big shock after being rushed around in basic training. In the guards you usually go straight to a rifle company after basic but I was lucky I got sent to mortars in support company. My advice to anyone joining now is stick at it, life really starts after the basic training. 😊

A word of advice. Make sure you do not spend 22 years in the military. You will find yourself lost in civilian street at 40 years of age. Thank goodness I left at 25 years old almost 9 years, joined at 16 years old as a junior soldier. Left and moved to Canada, thanks god for that move. Financially very stable, have a fantastic job and will be fully retired in 5 years tops. Do not get tricked into signing a long term contract…..

Mate it's not that hard, you just have to do what you're told. Thats it. Turn up half fit, eager to learn and a have a sense of urgency. No one is going to tell you what to expect, there's enough videos and literature out there for you to read. Don't be that guy that bumps into a squaddie when they're 40 and they've been doing a job they hate for 20 years and they're like 'I almost joined the army, it's one of my biggest regrets.' I've bumped into loads of them. Just do it, don't be a pussy.
