I'm half Irish, my mum grew up in Kildysart, co clare. I'm forever grateful for my summers spent on my uncles farm, riding the ponies down to the lake for a swim, climbing about in the burren, freezing our butts off in the atlantic! I still have cousins there that love to surf at Lahinch x

Hi it’s unusual for first generation Irish not to have relationship with Ireland? I grew up in London and our entire community pretty much went to Ireland every summer to grandparents and cousins… it’s a shame you didn’t get that experience because it’s impact is lifelong connection. I wrote a play about this and how first generation kids grew up with their parents saying ‘ we are going home ‘ . Glad you made it back to the village .

I've just watched your video which just appeared in my feed. Absolutely brilliant. I'm Irish from Dublin with roots in the West Coast and you did an amazing job of capturing the heartland, and the spirit, of the West Coast of Ireland, which is so beautiful and the people who are very friendly. I have a tear in my eye as your film footage and scoring is beautifully done to capture the real Ireland. Thank you very much for sharing and I hope your Mum and her sisters get to come home and see the town and home where they grew up. Enjoy the rest of your travels. ❤❤

What an exciting and heart-warming adventure brilliantly edited and scored! This one had me shedding quiet tears, as Janine neared her mother's ancestral home, where she lived well into her teens! And what a beautiful woman your mom is! Love the old photos! Watching Sean McCormack debate out loud with himself whether to escort you to the house was just so Irish, so adorable! Wish we could have seen you and Liam in the pub (for a pint) and the church ur mom and family frequented! Perhaps you could bring her back there one day. Love seeing the dramatic peninsular cliffs, the bright, glorious sun and of course the iconic house of Fr.Ted. I'll have to watch a few episodes this week in honor of! As a first generation Irish american (paternal; 3rd generation maternal) who visited friends in Mullingar over 20 years ago, I deeply appreciate this episode! Thank you so much, dear ones! ❤

Your editing skills are incredible. I found this episode epic, stunning, exciting and at the end I was quite emotional for you both , especially for Janine in finding her roots. Many years ago I busked in Ireland with a friend who sadly passed away in her sixties. I lost touch with her , but we wrote a folk song together which begins….In a sleepy little hollow south of Galway bay, where the pier road reaches out to see …da, de de da… Doolin is a place I’d like to be. I found a beer mat with an Irish toast written on it…. which became the chorus of the song. ‘ And we’ll raise a toast, an Irish toast, long life and health to you. A land without rent would be heaven sent. And when you die you’ll die in Ireland.’❤Thank you for the memories xx

How fabulous to find your Mum’s childhood house and to be able to go inside. Sean was an absolute star for taking you all the way there. If your Mum’s family just left and didn’t sell the house then her and her sisters probably still own it and you may be able to do the project you spoke of and renovate it to preserve it and stop it falling down, and to have an Irish base to return to between your travels. I’m heading to Ireland myself later this summer/autumn and hope to try to trace my family history while I’m there, though I have a lot less information to go on and I’m going back a further couple of generations to my Great Grandparents (I’m only a quarter Irish as both my Nanna’s parents were Irish, though she was born and raised in England.) If I was lucky enough to find a ruined house that belonged to my family however I’d take on a renovation and preservation project in a heartbeat.

@@ThoseHappyDays The adventure is the main reason for going! 😉 Just one part of a much bigger adventure as we are travelling around the entire coastline of the British Isles in our converted 7.5 ton removals truck. We’ve already travelled around Scotland and are currently in Wales, so Ireland is next. I don’t know if I’ll be able to find the family history information I’m looking for but finding a few names of my ancestors and a town/village that they lived in would be amazing if it happens along the way.

How amazing it must have been to visit your mum's house Janine. I tracked down my grandmothers house in Cahir in Ireland about 20 years ago and it gave me chills when I found it. Such a wonderful feeling though x

How incredible that you found your Mum's house. I can imagine the emotions you felt. My great grandfather was Irish and I connected with cousins in Ireland a few years ago and visited them and places where the family came from. It felt like coming home. Ireland is such a beautiful country and I feel its pull often.

They say mother earth is breathing With each wave that finds the shore Her soul rises in the evening For to open twilight's door Her eyes are the stars in heaven Watching o'er us all the while And her heart it is in Ireland Deep within the Emerald Isle

Great episode! It's always amazing and meaningful to find one's roots. I'm actually in Ireland myself now (from Florida) for eye surgery, and have traveled the country extensively by both bicycle touring and van lifeing over the last 11 years that I've been coming in for my eye surgeries (10 so far, and the last 2 coming up in a couple of days). Ireland is my favorite country. Wishing you guys the best of luck on the rest of your journey here.

Ahh a choc ice. The traditional "power ball" of the Irish for generations! Every irish journey must include a choc ice. I knew Sean was from good stock when he went straight for the choc ice. You know your getting close to your destination in ireland when the road has grass growing up the middle of it, two high ditches either side. So narrow that two prams would stuggle to pass each other and your praying another car, van or tractor doesnt come from the opposite direction 😂
