In this video I discuss the drinking culture in the UK, I have fell victim to culture that has been around for many many years in the UK.
I discuss the pattern of the drinking, how sports play there part and the long term negative effects of partaking in the endless cycle of booze that the textbook British man indulges himself in.

Well done for realising it early enough, many people never figure this stuff out until it's too late.

Well said. My mate died at 42. Pissed endlessly. I ended up stopping being around him for 5 or so years before he passed. Waste.

The film Saturday night and Sunday morning sums it up perfectly. Just living for weekend to get drunk then back to work to start the cycle again. I did it for more years than I care to remember until I finally woke up and realised that’s exactly like the powers that be want you to be like.

If you've ever seen the movie Human Traffic, well that was my weekends in the 90's. Today I haven't touched alcohol in 10 years and feel so much better for it, both physically and financially.

What I've found mate looking back basically when we're due to leave school we're told to go out, party, sleep around and find ourselves is the wrong way when just going out into the wide world. Plus I think the weekend is there for people to get pissed so we deal better with the servitude that we're forced to live in same with entertainment side of things. It's all distractions from the scam system. ✌️

Thank you for talking about this. As a Gen X'er I grew up in a time when this was the norm and we were encouraged to "get on it" and it was just what we saw everyone do in the media, the UK culture, it was seen as heroic to be the last man standing. Times have changed and today's yutes are all about the gym and less about the shant! I've knocked the pub on head and started working out, lost 3 stone of pint fat, saved a flipping fortune, and my head is so much clearer. "Pub friends" I do miss, but I cant fathom a hangover now after a long weekend at it. Just realised I wish I'd worked this out sooner, but I was in that life and having too much fun, or so I thought. Big ups for realising this when you did my G Stay safe!

Bang on. I gave up drugs, football gambling, the lot. For me, It was all a cover for childhood trauma. Numb the pain, ignore your emotions. Getting emotional over what 11 men do with a ball is not manly.

Even more so nowadays, going to the pub can leave a serious dent in your wallet. A decent pint, Peroni, Stella, Kronenbourg, etc. in Uxbridge, West London costs about £6.10. In central London maybe £8 upwards. It's ridiculous! After a good session, it'll take two days to recover. I prefer to drink at home, much cheaper and safer.

An extreme example of it is Russia in early 1900s where 30% of government revenue came from selling their own people vodka. Had the double benefit of subduing the working class from questioning the regime as well as generating revenue.

The 90s really solidified it - couldn’t afford to get drunk every weekend before and it was also socially frowned upon. For me the 90s was the pivotal decade when Britain lost its soul, identity and manners as we moved from a homogenous society to a multicultural globalist society. I hate it.

one thing i'll say about sport and in particular football; it brings a real sense of community in a society where community has been eroded over the years for different reasons but particularly the individualistic mindset/society since thatcher.

Also you fast forward 20 years to your 40s and you see the damage. I'm now late 40's and I don't drink at home (never been the type to have beers in the fridge). I was a going out drinker. By the time I got to my late 20s I got bored of it, would prefer to save my energy and money to do other fun stuff. So by the time I hit 30 I barely drank any more, just the odd meal out and maybe big nights out for birthdays. A few times per year rather than a few times per week. But for those still getting on it at my age or who are drinking on the sofa most night instead you can see the difference in them. 25 years of that has taken its toll and on the whole they don't look happy. More its a routine they have adopted and they look damaged by it. Worn out, unhealthy, not really had any hobbies for the last few decades so they are tired and a bit empty. My advice for anyone in their 20's is to find hobbies and other fun things to do alongside going out, then as the going out slows down you can increase the time investment in your hobbies. Then when you have a family your little boy can look up to you or join you in all the fun things you do rather than lose you to football and beer at the weekends.

Well said. Glad your learned how to escape the culture before it's too late. Seen it loads growing up, people going on the piss, lads holidays etc etc luckily I've never been one of the 'lads' so I take time to enjoy things myself and with my wife. We enjoy our travels and even small things like going out for a country walk and take food with us and enjoy it outdoors with a drink or 2 and not stuck indoors. Football I've always seen as being used to subdue the masses (a big fan of George Orwell's 1984) Nothing against anyone who watches it as I'll cheer in England at the world cup, but I can't see why I'd revolve my life around it. Stay strong friend

I rarely comment anymore but this was a real thought-provoking and inspiring insight right here. I'm a Wolves fan myself but I must say I've lost a lot of interest in football in the wake of my sobriety. I look at the likes of Man City fans singing anti-united songs and I'm like, is that really what gets under your skin in life? A team who just happen to be your neighbours? Seems like they're deflecting from affairs that are actually relevant. I know that'd be considered snobby by some but I just can't take the idea of football rivalry seriously as a full grown adult. Its far more rewarding when you invest time into more mentally stimulating hobbies. As far as the culture goes, there's never been a better time for my 20s to be ending. £6 a pint!? Yeah right.

As a message this video is correct & very admirable. 1 slight point tho' : At the start (0:32) you don't stress hard enough that it is an issue (merely saying it might be) & you also say at 0:34 it's a man's issue. On the weekend tho'; any city centre is also strewn with pissed girls, girls that turn in to middle-aged women trapped in the bottle of white wine at 6pm cycle.

Why not spread the word off youtube? In the recent elections there was a lot of single-issue politics & people campaigning on things that they're told are serious (the environment, LGBT rights, etc) but your points here apply many more of us & are of a genuine concern. In a way it's what we were saying as punks back in the late '70s but that led nowhere & it also embraced drink & drug use! In the comments of this video someone mentions how in Russia the government produced & sold cheap vodka thus taking back the wages from the people, repressing the working-classes at the same time. It's sort of comparable in a way & alternative politicians who are massively popular (Tommy Robinson for example) totally miss this whole issue whereas you get it! The sale of alcohol produces massive revenue for governments (& private individuals) & also dumbs-down the population. Hardly anyone talks about this point. @@mansome955
