13:07 Black Friday is not about the craziness that can happen. It's from retailers getting their annual sales because the most of the nation has a four-day holiday for Thanksgiving (and Christmas). The "black," meaning profit. Spreadsheets generally use red for loss, black is profit. A black bottom line is good.
@narlycat Жыл бұрын
I heard Black Friday is named that because the day after Thanksgiving was the first day that many retailers were out of debt and into profitability or rather out of the red (ink) and into the black. It therefore represents the beginning of the "official" Christmas holiday shopping season. A few years ago the Black Friday mania was getting out of hand but in the last few years they have tried to curtail the more outrageous behavior. Most Americans don't care about spray on cheese, it's a novelty designed to entertain children and to get parents to buy it for them.

In the US, we have Dentists, Orthodontists, and Dental / Oral Surgeons. Dentists do the day to day maintenance of cleaning and drilling and putting on crowns. Orthodontists striaghten teeth with braces and the like. And Oral Surgeons perform structural surgeries of the gums, teeth, pallate, and jaw. We also have doctors that perform surgeries on ears, noses, and throats called Otolaryngologists. Medicine in the US is highly specialized. And WAY too expensive as a result. Since it is private, you generally have a general practitioner (a GP) who has to refer you to a specialist for specific ailments or problems. Example, I go to my doctor for regular checkups once a year, they'll prescribe a medication for my blood pressure or remove a skin tag here and there or do small things a general physician can manage, but they primarily recommend I go see a specialist for chronic conditions. As a result, I see a sports injury doctor for arthritis and I have to have a regular injection in my eye for which I see an eye specialist. I've also seen an acupunturist for pain relief. And at some point I will likely need to see an endocrinologist for diabtes and a cardiologist for cardio vascular problems such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. Women see obstetricians and gynecologists for pap smears and scans and hormone treatments related to menopause, and men see urologists related to the prostate. And if you get cancer you see an oncologist. These specialists are one reason US healthcare costs too much. But most insurance companies require you visit your GP to get a recommendation before you see a specialist. And you have to pay your share of both. Every year you have a deductible which is your maximum annual out of pocket expense that must be met before insurance kicks in, and a co-pay which is what you pay for each doctor's vist. A deductible is usually 20% per visit for things like emergency room visits and ambulances up to a maximum amount of say $15,000. Keep in mind emergency room visits are THOUSANDS of dollars and ambulance rides cost about $3,000 each. If you don't have insurance, you're risking financial ruin.

The reason people are so ready to sue for something like a slip and fall as happened to your friends is because we have to pay for our own medical treatment so falling could actually pose a huge financial loss if someone was injured and needed treatment. Usually those lawsuits go to the insurance company for whatever property was involved so the homeowners themselves wouldn’t have to pay that settlement (I mean, eventually they will in increased insurance premiums due to claims but at the time of the settlement they wouldn’t).

The same thing can happen with auto injuries. And filing suit is the way to legally establish the insurance company is responsible.

They also have pharmaceutical ads in New Zealand. The ads in the U.S. don't just promote brand name drugs vs. generics. Most of the drugs being advertised are for patented medications for things like diabetes, cancer, psoriatic arthritis, etc. The purpose of the ads is to get consumers to ask their doctors for the specific meds. IMO, it's better to leave the decision to the doctor, who has a medical degree and years of experience, than to insist on a particular medication because you saw an ad for it.

Braces start much earlier now. 2 of my kids had very narrow palates and their adult teeth didn’t have room to grow. From about age 7 they had palate expanders, which are not covered by dental insurance, and they are easily broken or lost. Then they got braces at around 9 and got them off 3 years later, followed by a retainer, also not covered by insurance. My third child had gaps between his teeth so he didn’t escape braces either, just the palate expander. The braces cost nearly $10k each. Gaynor has a point about the shoes. In NYC, where I live and work, one of the ways businessmen size each other up is by the state of their shoes.

I really enjoy your KZbin channel! Great job, guys. But I don't think the percentage of kids in braces is as high as Gaynor said it was. Kids get in braces here for the same reason as they do in Britain ... to straighten crooked teeth or correct any other issues of the jaw, etc. And yes, braces are expensive, but insurance may pay just a minor part of it. Also, as other viewers have commented, Black Friday is called that because the incredible amount of business done on that day (Christmas shopping) gets a lot of businesses out of the red (debt) and into the black. In stores, there's been a few incidents here and there, but it doesn't happen everywhere. It just often gets covered on the news! :). I personally have never once gone shopping on Black Friday, as I have no interest in fighting crowds on that day. Regarding the neighbor suing a neighbor, you can't nilly-willy sue for an accident. You sue when someone has been negligent and their negligence causes an injury. Negligence makes that person liable, not the accident. You can't sue merely because an accident occurred. Also, you aren't generally suing them personally, i.e., taking their assets. You are suing them but they are covered by their homeowner's insurance policy. That is one of the reasons you carry liability insurance on your home.

The only time I really liked spray cheese is on a "chili-dog". It is like eating fondue Vienna sausages in cheese sauce on the run. With the right chili it is messy fun.😂

He’s wrong about Black Friday. Black Friday is the day of the year that many average businesses finally go from the red to the black, in other words from losses to profits in the calendar year.

The first one is not true. New Zealand also have medical ads on TV.

I see a lot of expats (mostly from Europe) who fly their country's flag alone in American suburbs. It's not required that you also fly the American flag at all. In south Florida we see a lot of Latin American flags as well: Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, etc.

There are books, granted very small books, written all about proper flag etiquette. The US flag must be raised the highest, followed by any other flag, be it another country's flag, or US State flag. I would recommend you review a video "The Star Spangled Banner as You've Never Heard it". A lot of things will make sense!

The star spangled banner as you’ve never heard it is just a propaganda piece. Not exactly how the battle happened or how the song came to be.

Wrong, other country flags can be flown equal height, Old Glory is flown higher than State flags, college, military flags etc. An exception is Texas, part of them entering the Union was the ability to fly their flag equal height.

The propaganda piece was written for the Ronald Reagan election campaign. It is entirely inaccurate, confusing to anyone who's studied American history. It should come with a disclaimer that it is disinformation and recommended not to view.

3:22 - People do this over here, everyone wonders why I don’t have people over to my home, and why i have such a small group of friends. It truly is horrible. Here in the us- I have not had spray cheese. 😂 We also have an Insinkerator here 😂 that is what I’ve always called it. Dental insurance is also great here, but believe me you have healthier teeth in europe. They over-treat our teeth with chemicals and devices. I had braces, and other devices for 5 years as a teenager. My teeth became so brittle that i had to pay for veneers.

I remember when traveling I met an Australian friend who'd visited the USA. She said she didn't like that people were "legally required" to fly the US flag on their homes and business buildings. She was shocked when I told her it wasn't a legal requirement; people just fly the flag because they want to! In California, Lawyers who specialize in suing Uber for accidents pay to put their adverts....on the back seat of Uber cars!

"Demolition Derbies and Alligator Wrestling" Demolition Derbies can often be found at county fairs throughout the Mid-West, an Arena type venue is walled off with portable Concrete barriers, the infield will be filled with all kinds of automobiles (no trucks, those Land Yachts of the 60's are preferred), at the starters gun they all proceed to bash into each other, last vehicle moving Wins, often a very Lucrative Pot. This is a Hoot to Watch. -"Alligator Wrestling", pretty much self-explanatory. Side-shows can be found all around the deep south-East.

Concerning medication ads: You will almost never see ads for generic meds that come from different manufactures. The companies only bother to advertise medicines that are still under patent and therefore the advertiser is the only company making it. The purpose of the ad is not to get you to chose their brand but to get you to take a medicine you might not otherwise think you need (and your doctor may not think you need). Want to know what happens to what goes in the garbage disposer? In some places it goes to the sewage plant and eventually is converted to a sludge with the other sewage which, in dried form, becomes fertilizer. You can legally only use it on decorative plants though because the other waste that goes down the drain (you know what I mean) can transmit viruses so you aren't suppose to use sewage sludge on food plants. Dentists: I pay about $46/month for dental insurance and with that routine dental checkups and cleanings are free. So are basic fillings. More expensive procedures like root canals and crowns cost me 50% of their usual rate. "Black Friday"--Just want to support what everybody else will tell you: It's called that because it's the day merchants become profitable (their balance sheets go from red to black) for the year. But due to online shopping, the whole thing is vanishing.

You don't just get braces. A dentist or an orthodontist has to say you need them.

8:40 Interesting story on college sports. Before professional sports became a big money maker and drawing in crowds, they were minor and small. They drew in such few people that the only way for people to earn money in professional sports is if a local business wants to advertise a product or store, at which point, the professional teams will then do a game in a corn field or local football field. College sports, on the other hand, drew in large crowds as America valued its colleges heavily at the time and sports events were like as serious as battles between nations. All this was common in America from a hundred to a hundred and thirty years ago. Professional sports only started to get big when a professional team from Minnesota got the idea of making it big by getting a popular football player from the University of Chicago to play a professional game at the university stadium. A movie was made about that called Leatherheads back in 2008, a rather good and decent comedy.
