I’ve always argued Peyton as being the greatest QB over Brady because initially, one of the only real arguments people really had for Brady was his amount of SB wins aka rings… which I think isn’t the best argument, considering SB wins are TEAM Accomplishments. The thing about the Browns is that they were very good back in the day but haven't won the championship since 1964. They had crushing playoff loses in the 1980's and the owner moved them to Baltimore to become the Ravens in the 1990s. These new Browns were the NFL's payback to the city. The have probably had 20 starting quarterbacks since 1999, had a season were they went 0-16 and people just assume if there is a way to lose the Browns will find it

Speaking of numbers, it all is up to the teams. They usually dont assign that number over again. But there are excwptions. For the longest time Wide Receivers could only choose between 80 to 89. but as teams started reducing the number of running backs and adding more receivers, you can see the problem. so they added 10-19 for receivers. Also, a legendary player usually gets their number retired by that team. No one else can be assigned that number. But, for example, Peyton Manning wore 18 his entire career with the Indianapolis Colts, but when he went to the Denver Broncos that number was retired. It had been worn by their first QB, Frank Tripuca. When Tripuca heard Manning was going to Denver, he called the team and asked them to unretire the number so Manning could wear it. After Peyton Manning retired, Denver retired the number 18 for a second time

Being a Life long Cleveland Browns fan, as i grow older, I see that the management/ owners constantly changes and then the new ppl want to build their team, and its a vicious cycle every couple years. they never stick with star players who are making the team a contender, its always a rebuilding year every couple years. Aaron Rodgers was drafted in the first round. The only shocker that night was that he wasn’t drafted first overall. Brady was drafted in round 6 with pick 199 as a backup QB for Drew Bledsoe. Brady didn’t really get the chance to shine in college as there was a power struggle between him and another QB for who would be starting. That uncertainty to start Brady made NFL teams cautious to pick him.

Left handed QBs are pretty rare. Only two have won a Super Bowl, Kenny Stabler(Oakland Raiders) and Steve Young(San Fransisco 49ers). Also, not always strongest arm, it is more usually whatever arm is your writing arm. There are exceptions of course. I throw right handed but my left is stronger. I can throw it further left handed but no telling where it might go.

Someone can correct me on this, and I don't know as much about NFL traditions, but in general, giving someone's number away is kind of like saying they're replaceable and nothing special. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, but not giving a number away shows a sign of respect to the person who wore it. Some numbers even get retired as an ultimate form of respect for the person who wore it.

There are some players that are so great that even players on other teams don't take their number (nor do players in college or even high school). Jim Brown, the greatest football player ever (a running back) wore number 32. Ken Stabler, Steve Young and Boomer Eison were all left handed and lead their teams to a Super Bowl, Stable and Young won, Boomer did not. Having a left handed quarterback is actually a big deal because it means their blind side is the Right side of the field which is usually the strong side alignment for the Offense and Defense, essentially this means that most teams have to flip their playbooks( so the plays run toward the side the QB is better at throwing. It also means that the Right Tackle is the Blindside Tackle, and becomes much more important than Right Tackles usually are as he becomes the QB's primary protection from blind side blitz.

it's up to the team for the most part about numbers. In colleges it's a bit more like europe. BUT like in baseball or basketball big generational culturally important players get the whole league to stop using the numbers like Bill Russell in the NBA and Jackie Robinson in Baseball.

Peyton Manning is probably one of if not thee best QB of all time in terms of pure QB play for his time. He single handedly revolutionised the passing game to what you see today. Honestly it's kinda crazy when you think about it, football nowadays with pass centric offenses is kinda attributed directly to him! He was the first quarter back to successfully normalize a pass majority offense with something like a 70-30 pass/run ratio whereas the vast majority of teams before were running the exact opposite.

Teams retire numbers of great players but #12 is used most by quarterbacks. Brady, Bradshaw, Griese, Namath, Rogers and many many others wear 12.

Yes we do retire Jersey numbers for great players in every sport. And nobody on that team in the future can wear that number again. In 20 years, people will have jersey numbers like #196 and #114 just cuz so many jerseys have been retired...

Joe Namath was a qb but he wasn't that good. He just predicted a huge upset victory in Superbowl three. There have been some left handed QBs but Steve Young and Michael Vick are probably the best of them. Tua Tonganvialoa (i definitely spelled that wrong) the current qb for Miami is a leftie.

Troy Aikman was the best QB of the 90s. Steve Young played is the pass happy west coast offense which padded his stats. No one would have ever traded Aikman in his prime for Young or Favre or even a 90s Elway.

Aaron Rodgers was drafted in the first round and Tom Brady was drafted in the sixth round at 199 and yes he’s right handed. Most of the time the best QBs are right handed

Numbers in baseball are retired per team as well. Jackie Robinson’s number 42 is retired for the entire league. You’ll see games where everyone wears the 42 out of respect

Rodgers was/is better than Brady (so is Montana, Marino, Elway). Rodgers can do things on the field that Brady could only dream of doing, but he never consistently had the team around him that Brady did as the Packers rarely drafted great offensive players for him in the first few rounds of each draft. Brady would never have succeeded in Green Bay with those teams the way Rodgers did.

QB jersey numbers aren't like getting the #10 in European football. QB's have numbers from 1-19...there is no 1 number. Peyton had 18, Brady had 12, Montana had 16, Favre had 4, Elway had 7, Marino had 13...most star qbs wear the number they had in college...sometimes they'll bargain with a player if they already have it, sometimes not. Peyton Manning wore 16 in college, 18 in the pros. Tom Brady wore 10 in college and 12 in thr pros etc

Oh thank God, Dan Marino is on the list. Before I even started watching I said out loud "If Marino is NOT on this list, it's fraudulent." Oh, never mind I see they did pick Montana and even mentioned John Elway and Steve Young in the same breath as Marino. All of those guys had better teams, better running games, defenses, and receivers than Marino ever had. Marino had some good players around him but he was the one who made them good. Meanwhile Elway had a 2,000 yard RB in Terell Davis, and Montana and Young had a Hall of Fame receiver who is probably still in the Top 3 of all time. Marino was the best. End of story.

3:09 The Browns running joke is because since the 60s (well before the league merged and also added new teams later on) they have been shite lol. OB Mike wasn’t even born and they’ve have mostly be middle of pact or worse, they have some of the worst seasons in NFL too. BUT this doesn’t neglect they fact that they have had some awesome players: Otto Graham, Jim Brown, OJ Simpson, Nick Chubb, Miles Garrett to name a few. They’ll eventually turn it around.

They are sort of like Brighton but with championships in a league that no longer exist (AFL merged with NFL over 50+ years ago, creating the league we know now.)
