In the NFL all the ball has to do is break the plane of the goal line and it's a touchdown. The orange pylon is within the endzone so touching it with the ball while diving is a score. On a catch (NFL rules), the receiver has to have both feet touches the ground inbounds with or with any part of his body other than his hands. Foot and knee for example. And when they say, 'Down to the 10' that's the yardage line. 10 yards from the endzone. The center is the 50 and the yardage goes in both directions, so there will be a 40yd line on either side of the 50.

I will say this, you are a lot sweeter then most first learning about NFL. NFL players come from multiple backgrounds, cultures, countries, etc. I’ve never heard anyone say anything is harder than football. To learn some of their stories, there’s videos like NFL most emotional moments. Mic’d up highlights you can hear little conversations between them

9:55 The most absurd part about these plays is that NFL players are abnormally large human beings. The guy flipping into the end zone(Can Newton) is 198.12cm tall & weighs 113.4kg.

Not worth comparing it to football (soccer, here). They are different sports with different and great reasons for watching and enjoying them. Same with hockey, which is kind of like UK football, but on ice skates. Incredibly fast and high levels of skill.

Just have to get the ball to at least break the plane of the goalline. Thats why they have the orange little cone things on the sides. If you touch that w the ball before going out of bounds or reach over it its a score. You dont have to touch the ball to the ground either. Just get in the endzone is the goal. If its caught in the endzone you have to get 2 feet down in bounds for it to be good. If a guy jumps up in the endzone and gets pushed out by a defender before he can get both feet down in bounds its incomplete and no good.

You're doing great. Basic rules are straightforward. Find a video that gives you that. After that you can get additional knowledge incrementally with other videos. It is also a very cerebral, schematic oriented game.

We hear these questions from people who people who only watch the game some of the time all the time. No real fan would give you crap for wanting to know the rules. Not to mention NFL rules are so convoluted it's hard to explain. It would take me 5-10min to explain. What is a catch lol
