Ripe Salak is actually taste sweet and crunchy. Its unfortunate that you got the bitter one i guess. The fruit that you point at one of the fruit that you thought to be jackfruit is actually also recommended. Its called cempedak. You should try one. You can try the fried cempedak if you lucky. Speaking of Jack fruit, there are two types of Jack fruit in Malaysia. One is called Nangka and the other Cempedak. If you use a translation application, both are called Jack fruit. From the outside, the fruit looks the same but Cempedak is smaller. Nangka is good to eat fresh while Cempedak is better to eat after being fried with flour. Cempedak tastes more sweeter and normally served after deep fried.

Oh girl! You can enjoy as many rambutans as you want for free at my parents place, we have the tree in our front yard. What you should look for is my mostest favoritest of my most favorite fruit, *ciku* _(chee-coo)_ which is shaped like an egg, and is very sweet with slightly creamy texture. Just be sure to get the fully ripe ones, brown skin throughout without any green tinge, and slightly soft (and juicy) feel to the touch when you lightly press with a finger. If it isn't fully ripe, leave it on your kitchen top at room temperature, do not cover or leave inside a tied up plastic bag, for 1 more day and see if the skin has turned brown throughout, if not leave again for another day. Sometimes you may get unlucky, the seller (or middle man etc) picks the fruit off its tree too early, and the fruit ends up not being able to ripen fully. If you still eat it, there's no sweetness, in fact it may even have some bitter taste, but the worst part is you'd get terribly annoying itchy throat, from the white sap that's present inside a fruit which hasn't ripened. Mangosteen is my 2nd favorite fruit, together with another fruit that you should also look for: *langsat* (pronounced _lang_ similar to langkawi, and _sut_ rhymes with shut), again the fruit must be fully ripe, this one all yellow without any green tinge. 3 other local fruits you should try: *Cempedak* but deep fried in batter *(cempedak goreng)* *Pisang* cheese which is deep fried banana in batter but topped with grated cheese and condensed milk. *Jambu batu* which is guava, washed and sliced, then smothered with sweet, salty and sour powdered *asam boi*

There are many types of rambutan, just peel it with your thumb, the best and sweet one to eat the one that not stick to it's seed some ppl call it coconut rambutan . Mangosteen some time sweet sometimes sour according to your luck.
