This guy has plenty of videos of him playing a shovel, a cigar box, a one string Bo Diddley, acoustic and electric guitar. He has one of those talents you can't teach. He interviews very well, laid back, down to earth and mixes well with his audiences. Many of his audience bring along their own home made shovel and especially cigar box guitars for him to see and he does spend time with each looking them over. He is naturally a crowd favorite. He's the kind of guy you'd like to hang out with.

Phil, I'm glad you talked about the guitar's construction. It's obviously a well crafted instrument made by someone who really knows what works. Justin's known for his blues playing on cigar box guitars (CBG's), but he's so well known that builders will make instruments just for him. Anyway, back to the shovel guitar. The level of knowledge, creativity and craftsmanship to make an instrument of this quality is impressive. In its own way, much harder that making a "regular" guitar because that process is well known. A shovel guitar is literally re-inventing the wheel. Also, thanks for highlighting Justin Johnson. If better known, RS might have considered him for their top 100 list....... Slide guitar's probably my favorite style of playing because it's the most emotive, especially blues slide. It'd be awesome if you do another JJ video of him playing one of his 4 string CBG's in a Delta blues style. You talk a lot about how musicians are able to be emotive through their instrument, and there is no better example of that than blues slide guitar. Of course there are lots of players that do a great job but JJ's videos are easy to find, the CGB's are way cool and he's a master at the style. Looking forward to it.

But he is refined at what he does. He has a small, limited edition collection of personalized get fiddles for sale. Amazing thing...not overpriced. He just jams. Dont think hes trying to make big quid from the sales...from the looks in his videos, he comes from a well-to-do household...thrives from a good gene pool and has natural born talent that most people are jealous about. Yeah....but fuck....the world needs people like him to remind us less talented people that the world is a good place to be. Live long and....jam out loud!!!!!! (You can use that line..hahaha)

Justin is the reason I started building cigar box guitars also shovels and hubcaps guitars. I never wanted to play any instrument until I found his channel. He can play anything with strings. Justin Johnson, Samantha Fish, Seasick Steve and a few others have kinda gone back to roots instruments. Great review Thanks

When I think of all the work and devotion it took to be as talented as Justin Johnson is... Dang, I get exhausted! Been listening and watching him for a while now. He's incredible.

Check out the vid of Justin playing a diddley bow. Its a single string instrument. Also, would love to see you do an analysis of blues guy Roy Rogers.
