Imperial Japan was worse nazi Germany. Here are a list of Japan atrocities: 1. Using slave labor. 2. Using people as target practice. 3. Rape. 4.Pillaging. 5. Having competitions to see who can kill the most people with swords. 6.Throwing babies and young children onto bayonets and into boiling pots. 7. Making prisoners march until they die or using them in horrific experiments. 8. Cannibalism.

Italy was involved a lot, however, they were not as big of a threat to the allies as Germany. Mussolini was basically the Kim-Jong un of his day. He was a the leader of a barely-industrialized country that didn't have a lot of real pull on the world stage. Hitler, however, was the leader of the largest industrial and economic power in Europe, and had the strongest military force on the European continent. Even though Mussolini came first, and attacked a number of different countries, it should be noted that Italy was a pretty secondary concern compared to Nazi Germany.
@atorothcassidy48664 жыл бұрын
Yes and no Italy had two factions the rebels were on our side and most of the fighting on the Italian front was done by them. and because they took over in the end Italy took less sanctions afterword unlike Germany or Japan that were nearly ruined by post war reparations.
@Hellrado4 жыл бұрын
The Italian army was good, German generals praised the Italians that fought under them saying they fought with bravery. What killed Italy was how bad Benito was at building an economy and building an army. Also didn’t help that Italian generals did things to make themselves look better and to sabotage each other
@TheSkyGuy773 жыл бұрын
the only thing Italy had at that time was a navy as modern as the British (at the start of the war) had. everything else was behind most other world powers. but they did end up on the right side in the end.

france actually had a larger military than germany, just their tactics were bad
@jonwoodhouse14443 жыл бұрын
@@sav_bale7601 France may have mobilized 5 million men, but they had less than three and a half million armed and in the field when the Germans invaded. Also, while the French had more tanks on paper than the Germans, most of the French tanks were small 2-man light tanks that couldn't even hold up against Panzer I's. The French were also lagging behind the Germans in terms of mechanization. Germany had approximately three and a half million men in the field, more than the French, but less than the combined 3.7 million of France and Britain.

+Jay W Eeeehhh, the US made attack plans for every threat in the inter-war period, where the UK had general idea's on where they could hurt potential enemies, but knowing that plans rely on the enemy to do as predicted.... it was considered a best to spend not waist to much effort on that... and they basically done what they've did: BLOCKADE worked in the 18th century, so they just did that again... still being THE Navy power at the time just gives you options. The main source of oil Germany had was the USSR. The German Army was very very well aware that they only had like 2 months to defeat the Sovjets before fuel shortage's would put a hold on anything. As such they even de-motorized their infantry units in order to preserve fuel for their panzer units.

To be fair, Italy isn't talked about much re; their involvement, because they basically just invaded much smaller/weaker nations and generally failed when trying to take on anyone of remotely equal power (Brits, Greeks). Churchill wasn't kidding when he described them as the Axis' weakpoint.

IIRC, The USA completely left the League of Nations over the Treaty of Versailles, basically saying "Do you want another war? Because this is how you get another war." France was all about Germany taking the sole blame and paying reparations. The war was right on their doorstep. Trench warfare was in their back yard. When Germany hosted the 1936 Olympics, most of Europe was glad to see them apparently doing well. Time Magazine labeled Adolf Hitler "Person of the Year" two years later. I think the general sentiment regarding Germany's expansion was that most of the LoN members weren't keen on enforcing a treaty they themselves found too punitive, and weren't willing to hop straight into another war over it. It took us in the USA long enough, but there was kind of a "told you so" aspect to that. And the fact that ethnic Germans are our largest demographic. And the very big ocean in between us. And the fact that we were New-Deal-ing the bajeezus out of the country.

To understand the British and French policy of appeasement you have to look back to the horror of World War I which at the time was only about 20 years ago for them. The horrendous financial and human cost of WWI made the leaders of Britain and France so adverse to the idea of another Europe wide war that they literally were willing to do anything to prevent that. The reason Hitler invaded Poland was because he was convinced that Britain and France would complain but they wouldn't actually do anything about it. In the Fall of 1939 there wasn't anything militarily Britain and France could do about Poland so a declaration of war on Germany was the best they could do. What Hitler didn't count on was the heroic stubbornness of the British people to not surrender to their island.

Obviously Hitler and Germany were more powerful than Italy during the war and had to help Italy during the war a lot of the time. However, Italy still played a massive role especially since Mussolini had a really big influence on Hitler. Hitler's march on Munich (Beer Hall Putsch) was inspired by Mussolini's takeover of Italy

To be honest, people across the pond do not get taught much about WWI, Korean (forgotten) war, and the Viatnam war until Uni. Even then the lectures can be very droning. So unless one takes a keen interest towards history and do independent research then a lot of the smaller skirmishes or ones that make the Allies look bad are minimized, at least at the schools I attended. Don’t believe me, my ex-wife believed that Lincoln had been picked off by snipers. When I asked why she told me that in urban areas they don’t focus on that. Even when they are taught about that not everybody knows that the assassination was part of a larger conspiracy to take down several high ranking officials in an attempt to destabilize the nation that had just begun to mend.
