College Players Sustain Blows "Like A Car Crash" They concluded that players receive an average of 50 hits to the head, each with an average force of 40G (40 times the force of gravity). This is similar to the force generated by a boxer's gloved punch.

its physics. in a straight on line two objects hitting each other at, say, 15 mph, equals a 30 mph collision if perfectly in line... when you get into angles the vectors add up differently... but thats the thing w boxing... many knockouts are not straight on punches, but they are hits that turn the head, screwing up the cochlear inner ear = off balance. wanna knock someone out? twist their body/head rapidly. ... either way, straight on or twisting... the brain is getting tossed about inside the skull... i hate the long term mental destruction but damnit... my Irish Serb hulking DNA loves a violent hit.

Actually, the most common injury from de-cleating hits (the most frequently seen here), is getting the wind knocked out of you. This is a short-term condition that will typically involve no more than a missed play or two. Concussions get a lot of attention because of potential long-term consequences, but occur much less frequently than the media would have you believe.

I've been in a 45mph collision and I played 4 years of football. Pretty similar experiences. Wreck felt like the aftermath of 1 or 2 post season games. It's the pads, they really work. They work better once you learn how to use them to their maximum effect. Learning how to fall in them and remembering the extra bounce might give you a chance to roll some of the energy from the tackle out, those sorts of things make a difference. Some of those guys are hurt, others knocked clean out, but the guy that spun flat landed on his tailbone pad, maybe a hip pad, and the composite back-plate of his shoulder pads before his helmet hit at a much reduced rate of speed. Just because it isn't metal doesn't mean it isn't armor. You should see the old knight tourney videos from pre-war Ukraine. Teams from over a dozen nations, including the US, fighting in full plate full contact combat. Modern football meets medieval arms and armor. Used to get pretty out of hand.

Ironically, even though football players have the most protective gear of basically any sport, they also have the most injuries. Psychologists say it’s due to a false sense of security the players feel when they suit up. They get the idea that they are far more protected than they really are…so they hit each other as hard as they can. That’s why, although they have almost no protective gear, rugby players have far fewer injuries. I shared this bit of trivia because it’s fascinating that they implemented all that gear to protect from injury, but the result was far more injuries.

@mycroft166 ай бұрын
Most of the time, the phrase "walk itboff" applies. You'll see them get up, take a few circles and catch their breath, and get right back to it. Now, if they stay down and any of the other players are showing concern or the guy is writhing and holding a limb... youll see the team medical staff head out on the field with their bags and assess. Sometimes theyll help them stand and hobble off the field. Sometimes for a stretcher and carry them off. And sometimes they bring the ambulance that is always present off the field on with the EMTs and transport them to the hospital. Crowd and other players are almost always really respectful regardless of which team player is injured. If they stand and walk offx applause. Silence if they are taken off.

Yeah... They fkn hurt. I played in highschool as a linemen, usually Center, and as a huge kid with a great deal of momentum, slamming into other huge kids with my head took a toll without a doubt. By the end of many games I was in such a fog that I would get irritable about winning- it was such a strange and confusing feeling. On top of that, my forearms were constantly cut up and covered in bruises, my fingernail got ripped off a couple times (the 2nd time inside my glove that I got to keep it from happening), my knees and ankles were constantly sore enough to impact my normal life, and rolling around in fresh cut grass with dirty little kids gave me all kinds of weird allergic reactions. I say all that, only to point out that every person in this video is dealing with all this and worse just from normal games and daily practice- so you can imagine what contact physical enough to make it into a montage might entail. Many of these men will never recover, with several instances being some of the most horrific circumstances imaginable. It sure is fun as hell though, and I learned so much from it, so I don't want to seem overly negative. They sacrifice a great deal!
