When I was little, they told us an easy way to remember which is which: stalacTITES are the ones on the ceiling - they're hanging upside down, so they have to hold on TIGHT. Like I said, we were little kids in grade school.

Glacier National Park is basically our piece of the Alps. That area up there is just north enough to get that Alps look and not the dry arid look of spots further south. Well, i guess you could say that anything north of New Mexico and northeast of Utah is Alps-like. Basically Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana.

At 1 million acres, Glacier National Park is about 30 times larger than Jersey and about 1/5th the size of Wales. The state it is in (Montana) could comfortably hold the entire UK plus another England, yet only about 1.1 million people live there. The scenery is magnificent.

I've been to Carlsbad! The caverns are beautiful, and your mom is correct! The stalactites grow down from the ceiling and the stalagmites grow up from the ground caused by the moisture that drips and when it dries what's left behind is are the minerals that build up, What they don't mention are the bats that live there!🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇

I tried hiking Angel's landing 3 times.(I am scared of heights) 2 times I stopped at the overlook, the 3rd time a actually got up on the narrow apart of the trail, but started shaking and feeling light headed. I had to go back down a thin trail, holding onto the metal chain the whole time. I will never try again, although I wish I could have done it.

I worked at Carlsbad Caverns. They have two tours. One, you walk a trail downhill slightly as you go and you see the various formations. They used to use handsets that when you reached a certain point you put to your ear and it would describe what you see. It ends at the Big Room and you take the elevator back to the surface. The second tour is just the big room, you take the elevator down, explore the big room and go back up. My favorite was the Bat Cave. Everyday at sundown you gather outside the entrance and thousands of bats come flying out of the cave mouth, missing the crowd by inches, cm to you foreigners lol. It is scary the first time because it startles you, but it is fantastic to experience

LOVED the bat show... Don't forget that you'll sit there for an hour or more with bats JUST POURING OUT of that cave... Not only are they just a few inches away from time to time as they swirl around and up, but they just KEEP COMING in mass... AND that slight downhill hike still requires good footwear. You'll be at it several hours... It's not rough ground particularly, but a solid hike, so GOOD shoes or you'll regret it for days after. ;o)

Stalactites are the cave formations that hang from the ceiling. They are formed by water sinking down from the surface and picking up minerals on the way. When it gets to the cave, the water drips down but leaves a trace amount of the minerals behind, and those build up over hundreds of years to form the spikes. Stalagmites are the other end of the process. As the drops of water that form stalactites hit the ground beneath, the minerals in them build up mounds. So unless they form over a lake or stream, there's always a stalagmite under every stalactite. They are usually sets.

Yosemite National Park in California should have at the top of the list. Photos of Death Valley, in California, during the short period they bloom are gorgeous. Very good reaction video! I can attest to the fact that Carlsbad Caverns is a great destination. My parents took my sister and me there, when were young. I took my wife there after we were married, and later, we took our daughter there when she was little. The lighted trail is pretty much downhill all the way to the end, then has elevators to take you back up to the surface gift shop/cafeteria. ❤

I was just in Key West and the Dry Tortugas a couoke of months ago. Key West is great and lots of stuff to do and see. The Dry Tortugas park is nice but if you aren't diving or snorkeling, there isn't much to do. Plus, its a long boat ride out there. We did a lot of fishing on the way out there so it wasn't too bad. Take a boat trip around Key West even if you don't want to go all the way out to the Tortugas.

Don't know who created this list, but these are NOT the 10 most beautiful places in America. All of the sites highlighted are, certainly, beautiful and worthy of a visit. However, there are many more beautiful places than what has been shown in this video. If I may: 1) Grand Canyon (Mather Point - South Rim and Angel's Window - North Rim); 2) Bryce Canyon National Park (Utah) - Rainbow Viewpoint; 3) Yosemite National Park (California) - Glacier Point ; 4) Arches National Park (Utah) - Delicate Arch ; 5) Canyonlands National Park (Utah) - Grand View Point Overlook ; 6) Niagara Falls (New York) - all overlooks on both the US and Canadian sides ; 7) California Highway 1 (runs along the coastline for 656 miles) ; 8) Lake Tahoe (California) - Hidden Coves, Crystal Waters ; 9) Yellowstone National Park (Montana & Wyoming) - All viewpoints of The Lower Falls and the Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone ; 10) Washington, D.C. - Lincoln, Jefferson, & Washington Monuments, Vietnam Memorial, Smithsonian Institute, Arlington National Cemetery, US Capitol, White House, Washington National Cathedral, BASILICA of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Great Prismatic Spring water temp is 160F or 69C. Just stay on the trails/boardwalks. A guy decided to go off trail and fell in to one of the pools that was right at 100C aka boiling, he died nearly instantly, and by the time crews could get there the acidity (approx ph of 2-3) had dissolved him. Crazy part is his sister was filming when he fell in. Awful.

For Oregon, I'd go with Crater Lake over Multnomah Falls, though the latter is certainly easier to get to. You have to drive out through an area that looks like the surface of an alien planet to get to Crater Lake, and it's about 4 hours minimum from literally any other place. (slight exaggeration)

I'd stress that these 10 are pretty controversial and I could name a number of places left off the list I'd rather see: Grand Teton National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Yosemite Valley, any old-growth coastal redwood grove (there are a number of them up and down the CA coast), Smokey Mountains, Okeefenokee or Great Dismal Swamps, Everglades, Big Sur or almost anywhere north of that along the West Coast, Overseas Highway. I'm sure there are others I'm hardly aware of. I tend to think Southwestern rock formations are overly represented in these internet videos.

Watkins Glen is in New York State and not anywhere near New York City. It is located in what New Yorkers and most Americans call as "Upstate New York. It is located on the southern tip of Lake Seneca, one of NY's Finger Lakes. The only thing notable about Watkins Glen other than what was shown in the video is that Watkins Glen International racetrack, which hosts annual NASCAR Cup Series Championship races, and formerly hosted the Formula One United States Grand Prix and various IndyCar races.

One of the great things about the USA is that we not only have these massive National Parks but also National Refuge sites, National Historic sites and so forth; but we also have the State Parks and State sponsored sites of various kinds. Now as for what is the most beautiful or most amazing, that of course is a matter of opinion and I'm sure that if you asked 25 different Americans from all over the country, you would get 25 different lists of what the 10 most beautiful or most amazing sites would be in their opinion. The great thing is that there is no right or wrong with any of these list. America is just so vast that this is why so many Americans never visit out of country. You could spend an entire lifetime and never see all there is to see in this country. But it sure is fun trying!!!

The Great Sand Dunes are like being on another planet. They’re super out of the way (4 hour drive from Denver), but the drive is so beautiful, it really doesn’t matter. The dunes are in the San Luis Valley, which is Colorado’s dark sky country. No light pollution = amazing stargazing. The dunes are just one of many spectacular places in Colorado and its surrounding states!

If this list was 50 different places, every number would still be spectacular.

For generations, the first park, namely, Zion, has been pronounced ZYE-un. However, inexplicably, in recent years I've heard it mispronounced ZYE-ahn. It's pronounced the same as the mountain in Jerusalem, and that's what Utah's Mormon pioneers named it for back in the 1800s. With 640 acres in a sq. mi., there are 167.7 sq, mi./270 sq. km. in CO's Great Sand Dunes N.P. Years ago, my mom taught my brother and me how to keep stalactites and stalagmites straight. The former are tight to the ceiling, and the latter might reach the ceiling. In the Grand Prismatic Spring section, the Haydn Expedition was mentioned as being there in 1871. The following year, Yellowstone was made the world's first national park. Apparently they were impressed.😊 Several years ago, while I was spending part of my vacation in FL, I took the ferry out to Dry Tortugas. What a beautiful place. By the way, in case you're curious, "dry" means there's no potable water there, and "tortugas" is Spanish for "tortoises". Across the border in Canada from Glacier N.P. is their portion of the total reserved territory--Waterton Lakes N.P.

Missoula is pronounced mih-zoo-luh (or /mı.zu.lə/ if you're hip with the IPA), hence the nickname "Zootown". Also, yes, the pools in Yellowstone are very pretty, but they stink like satan's ass. Most of the park smells like rotten eggs, honestly.

Don't ignore upstate New York. It's wonderful. There's Watkin's Glen and the Finger Lakes region (including wine country), but also the Lake George area, mountains, and Lake Champlain, and gorgeous autumns. I dunno why all the New Yorkers go to Vermont to leaf peep-- just go up your own state! (I used to drive through upper NY to get to school in Vermont. The state roads are marvelous.) I've lived in NM for 11 years but haven't been to Carlsbad Caverns yet.

There are just too many great places in the US to even mention. Smokey Mountain national park, Anything in Alaska, Arches in Utah, crystal clear gulf coast waters in Florida, areas of Maine, UP of Michigan, many many more.

I've always like to remember them as "T" in stalactite looks like it's hanging down, while "M" in stalagmite looks like a couple pointing up.

Multnomah Falls is absolutely beautiful. It was my son's favorite place after the lighthouses around northern California and Oregon. He walked across that bridge and waved to us! There is a lovely restaurant to the right when you face the falls...Northern California and Oregon are both gorgeous! Beautiful coastline with lots of Redwoods, greenery, waterfalls just amazing ! If you get a chance to come back, consider that part of the US - it is beautiful.
