The Borrel Nootjes / tijger nootjes , are actualy indonesian in origin and made in small batches, due to the dutch connection the indonesian community in the netherlands started to sell them in small numbers as they became popular under the dutch , they needed to something for bulk . and they found a solution with a machine that was used in apothacaries to make round tablets . as it was a kind of centrafuge . they would put in the pindas and they got a nice coating before beeing baked.

Bless your hearts for trying with things that are an acquired taste. In America “black licorice” is tough for a lot of us, but we don’t really even have it with salt. I know Root-beer is hard for a lot of people from the UK because that root is used in a lot of your dental products. Good job you for keeping at it
@ThisWithThem3 жыл бұрын

Lol, that is just 1 type of sprinkles, we have a few variations. The basics being milk chocolate, pure chocolate, fruit. At Christmas several others tend to popup. The butter on the slice of bread is basically required so the sprinkles are stuck, and leave less of a mess. Muisjes, the white and pink ones (when it is a boy it is white and blue) are aniseed. Usually you will see some sort of tail coming out of it, not sure what that is from, but it is what gave it the name. Muisjes, translated means little mice. Hint, oo and oe in pronounciation are inversed to the English pronounciation. So if you see oo pronounce it like you read oe. Room Boter, cream butter. The small pancakes you refer to are called "poffertjes".

Buttered baguette with a strip of Milka chocolate is indeed a staple after-school snack in France. Especially good if you get the crusty end of the baguette, so you get the crunch of baguette crust, then the soft inside, the soft salty butter then the sweet chocolate…. Mmmm! If you have a piece of fruit with it, you’ve covered all the main three food groups ( milk, carbs and fruit/veg)! I was watching you talking about Sprinkles and how you call them hundred thousands. In New England we call them Jimmies. In our family we call them Cutsies. When my mom would serve us ice cream cones she would dip them in Jimmies. As we stood in line waiting for our cone the older ones would call cutsies and cut in front of the younger ones in line. My youngest brother finally got to the front of the line and he asked for cutsies on his cone because he thought everyone was asking for jimmies on their cones when they cut in front of him. LOL I also do not like licorice. It is one of my earliest memories. We were at a park with a train and we had stopped for candy before the train ride. I had the little candy buttons that came on a strip of paper and a stick of black licorice. I probably got the same thing as the older kids. I clearly remember pulling that licorice out of my mouth and saying that I did not like it. My dad probably ate it as he loved licorice. I haven't had any since.
@ThisWithThem2 жыл бұрын
Jimmies!!! What a cute name for them 😍love that!! Might have to start calling them that! Awww no that's so sad!! Hope he managed to get his cone in the end! Those black licorice sticks are powerful aren't they! No wonder you didn't like it!
@jodydoughty2 жыл бұрын
I forgot to tell you the story of why we call them Jimmies. Dr. Farber co-founded the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, as well as a charity, The Jimmy Fund, named after one of his child patients. Brigham opened an ice cream restaurant called Brigham's and charged an extra penny for chocolate sprinkles on a cone, which benefited The Jimmy Fund. That could be why we call them Jimmies.

Let me tell you what salmiak is: When you combine nitric acid (deadly concentration) in dutch called salpeterzuur and ammonia (deadly concentration)in dutch called ammoniak, there will be a violent reaction and as a result there will be a grey powder left. That powder is salmiak. It tastes a bunch like salt but does way less harm to the body than sodium-chloride (table-salt). That gives this contrasting result that the saltier the liquorice tastes the less salt it contains. It does also not spike your blood pressure.
@anma89592 жыл бұрын
Did not know all that. I’m Dutch. Just even the mention of salmiak makes my mouth water… Salmiak and double salt are my favorite drop! I rarely buy them, because when they’re in the house I can’t not eat them…😂.

The sprinkles are like fairy bread from what I can see but fairy bread is with colored sprinkles made of sugar, not chocolate. The sprinkles used on fairybread, we only use on icecream. The muisjes (pink and white sprinkles) you tasted are not licorice. They are sugar covered anis seeds. Also, their name, muisjes, means mice. They look like mice if you look closely, they have a tail. The chocolate cookies you tasted are, in fact, chocolate covered stroopwaffles. Kanjers is a kinda famous stroopwaffle brand here.
