Arthur Rosa Yes... It's weird. The traditional English pronounciation and vocabulary is considerably easier for a Brazilian mouth, as it's less influenced by germanic roots and demands less of a rhotic effort, not to mention a higher ratio of words rooted in Romance. Unfortunately, due to the heavy infiltration of North-American culture, we end up adjusting our ears to the American pronounciation only -- while at the same time not feeling better speaking like it.

In Brazil, I'm pretty sure one could fare much better in English learning if one is taught according to the dominant variety in England.

+andre uebe Nope. Actualy portugese has pronounciation close to the B.E. I think all romance languages have this "facility". But yeah, we live next to the U.S. so... we can easily acquire their vocabulary and accent. Because of media and all those stuff.

Hi Eliott, I crew once a year with the JST Jubilee Sailing Trust out of Southampton on the Lord Nelson and Tenacious. All of the crew and voyage crew (passengers) are from the UK. I was taken by surprise when one of my new found friends, at the end of my first three week voyage told me that she had only understood 1/3 of my conversations in the past three week due to my accent. They all thought I was Canadian (I live in Los Angeles, grew up in Washington State near the US/Canadian border). I smiled and said I too had only understood 1/3 of what she'd said in the past three weeks. Guess the accent issue goes both ways! I didn't realize that until then. I've been following your tutorials, and my last few trips of 3 week and 2 weeks were much more easily understood! I've also spent 3 weeks in London last summer. Cheers! Colby Smith

Very important part of learning the RP accent, as an American we hardly ever use this sound in everyday pronunciation outside of words like "about" or any word that uses the "un" prefix.
