Beautiful advert. From an era before John Major got his grubby little money-lust hands on it. Now we'll never go back. Condemned to an age where we're regularly late for work on multiple services, run by multiple companies who invest sweet FA in rail and cream off profits to fatcats who are ferried about in luxury limos, while the rest of us Hoi polloi continue to pump pounds into their purse. Some of the trains in this 24-year-old advert are still in every day use. Absolutely shambolic!

For me this says we are British and we’re proud of it and if they re-nationalise the trains they should have this as their first ad and at the end it should say ‘you’ve heard this before and yes we’re back’ and then the BR logo

Wonderful music by Vangelis. He uses the same tune many years later in: Vangelis - Lord Lindsay

@@stuartmurray8992 It does not. It was written for the album (not actually used in the stage show) and in any case was in the 2000's before either was produced.

Anyone else here now that British railways are being reformed again? Sadly it doesn't seem to be a re-nationalization but it might be nice!

@thepod96 Also, the lack of focus on the four sectors of BR - InterCity, Railfreight, Provincial (at that point renamed Regional Railways") and Network South East occurs as the govenment do not want to draw attention to the widely unpopular standards of service associated with the railways. It's worth noting as well that some of the rolling stock by the time this advert was broadcast were around 40 years old.
