Mind if I ask how you made the new exhale valve? Me and the boys just bought SBR's for reenacting, but with the stock exhale valves, they're impossible to breathe through.

Can you tell if the angletube assemblies on these repros unscrew from the inside like orignals? I have a pretty piss-poor condition orignal that I might plan on transferring the hardware onto a repro and sprucing it up to look more original similar to yours for display purposes while keeping the remnants of the facpeiece, hose, canister, etc boxed up for archive and study reference. One issue that I've noticed every repro SBR has is the mouthpieces are always incorrect - original BSBR mouthpieces tend to actually be white rubber like the American mouthpieces (but often discolor to black) and also have two corrugations on them. The repros always lack corrugations and are made of horribly inaccurate rubber.

I'm afraid they are fixed as far as I know. As you say the mouth piece is a real let down. If I'm right soemone out there has made or is making reproductions so on the completion of some other projects I may replace the one fitted to this reproduction, if they are available.

@@RiflemanMoore Pity. it seemed like they were unscrewable from Man The Line's photos. I'll find out for sure whenever I can be bothered to drop the money on one. Also I know What Price Glory has some slightly better mouthpieces, but they're patterned more off the American-style mouthpieces, and they're made of horrific quality rubber, not to mention they also lack true corrugations. I have a couple examples of clean, flexible, good condition U.S. Box Respirator mouthpieces I'm going to eventually cast plaster molds of and mold proper reproductions, but I don't think they'd work on British masks, despite the similarities, and the scarcity of intact BSBR mouthpieces may mean I might have to have a 3D model made of one to make a mold.

Have u got an original because my great great grandad brought 4 home because 2 of his freinds where killed and his eye lens smashed and he got a new one

You can get one from Soldier of Fortune but as I said this example has been heavily modified.

did the canister contain asbestos?

I'm not certain regarding the SBR filter, I think not but I have a feeling asbestos appeared in later British canisters.

world war 1 gas mask don't have asbestos but the world war 2 ones do
