As a queer man myself I'm not a fan of heteronormativity however I am learning that when you're in the heat of the moment of filming you'll be surprised at how differently you can verbalise things you may not fully align with, I surprised myself, not in a good way. Sexuality is definitely a spectrum in my eyes and I'd love to think that many of these idols are bi or they're on some part of the spectrum that's not fully "straight", whatever that means. *sigh*, sometimes I wish I always said and gave the right responses at all times but I'm learning and I'm human and that it's easier said than done. I will try to be better prepared in the future when I can.

You are good!!! it can be hard to correctly voice your thoughts but people are always trying to push I guess straightness onto the boys and are sometimes weirdly offended when you say their sexuality is something other than that. I myself like to think that many of these idols could be bi or something else and it brings me a sort of comfort.

💜💜💜 don't worry too much about it. this video concept derives from the book called Demien by Herman Hesse and in it talks about good and evil. What makes us good and evil and about becoming or growing up from what society/parents expect you to be like and be yourself. When you learn that white/black might be more grey. So, if sexuality is in your mind... that's one way of interpreting the video. There's no ONE way... and I can say that maybe that's the magic or beauty of BTS's concepts.

This video (and the whole Wings album) is loosely based on the novel Demian, by Herman Hesse. It's a coming of age story in which the protagonist, Emil (played in the video by Jin, the one who kisses the statue) "detaches from and revolts against the superficial ideals of the world of appearances and eventually awakens into a realization of self. (wikipedia)" Emil's guide in questioning the simplistic morality of his upbringing is his older friend, Max, and there is a key scene in the book where they kiss (so yes, kissing the statue does reference a kiss between two men!) but in BTS videos everything can mean multiple things. The song, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, is about temptation-resisting and giving into it-and the loss of innocence (and maybe the gaining of maturity) that comes with it, so it is a bit open-ended what exactly the statue represents (the god, Abraxas, who contains both divine and satanic elements, is an important symbol in the book), why Jin is tempted by it, and what bargain he makes with it that leads to the cracks forming on his face (perhaps the cracking of the facade of his own image, to reveal a truer self?).

Which is precisely why I wish the media would stop using the 'boy band' reference when writing about BTS. They're so far from the stereotypical boy band it's mind blowing.

Based on Damian by Herman Hesse a book about temptation and the loss of innocence. The winged statue represents Abraxas the driving force of individuation ( synthesis, maturity, oneness) in effect Jin by kissing the statue accepts the passage of innocence and the new exploration of self. You' re in the deep end of the pool with Blood Sweat and Tears, but as a style/ art person I highly recommend you review it a few times. Bookish Theories does a great breakdown. Stay well ps Did you see the suiting on their live unplugged Fix Me? Polo Ralph Lauren. Beautiful woolens.

Blood, Sweat & Tears is based on the novel Demian by Hess with hints of Carl King's philosophy on the human psyche. The video seems to focus on the struggle within to conform to what society deems good over our darker leanings; but to be a whole individual one must accept the "good" (light) and the"bad" (shadow) to truly live. Once Jin accepted (kissed) the shadow his persona cracked to reveal his new self. BTS has been exploring this theme for a while.

RM is qoting from a very interesting German book called 'Demian' by the 19th century writer Herman Hesse which is all about the loss of innocence. Also the quote above the mirror is in German from the book. The statue has black wings suggesting the Devil. The fallen angel and did you see V has the scares on his back from where his wings have been hacked off.

Please help your reactors to BTS, by asking them to turn subtitles on. The Korean-language chorus "wonhae manhi manhi manhi manhi" may sound like "woah money money money money" but it means "give me more more more more." Ty.

@@Koko3op I believe the reactor was meant to comment on the fashion and styling and how it relates to the set/environment. Though connecting the visual content and lyrics in light of his field of expertise would be very much welcome. 💜 I do realize there is a lot to digest and some reactors need to marinate in their new given "role". Active and critical listening is challenging enough then add the BTS attack. 😁 (insert evil laugh) Seriously though I am happy he enjoyed watching.
