Same. I’m very impressed with our receivers. We all knew McCoy and Keyton would step up and I’ve been calling it for some time now about squirrel white stepping up. I just figured it would’ve been next season. If Milton could continue to stay as calm and poise as he did during the bowl game then he’ll do just fine next year and we could possibly redshirt Nico. This bowl game answered a lot of questions and concerns for me!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Love this channel and now I love it even more seeing you pulling for the Tennessee Volunteers! I am a big Tennessee fan, from there originally though I live in the state of Georgia now. Only wish I had realized the game was being telecasted with the sky cam as an option, I had to listen to the announcers use every adjective in the book to describe how great Clemson was all game long...... As far as the bowl games, the good news is in 2024 the playoff expands to 12 teams and the first round will be played in the higher seeded teams home field so that will be a neat change, IMO. Keep up to great work with the videos!

You're absolutely right about running the ball with a lead. If you get tackled in bounds the clock keeps running but an incomplete pass stops the clock.
@bobasdfsdf
@bobasdfsdf Жыл бұрын
Came here to say this. Your thinking is bang on. 14 point lead with 3 minutes to go isn’t a 100% guaranteed win but you can run 2+ minutes off the clock just running the ball 3 downs. No need to run anymore pass plays in that situation.

11:08 It’s called a Skycam - a flying camera suspended from wires at four corners in the stadium. It was invented in the 80s, but didn’t see heavy use until the original XLF in 2001. Some people like it because the view resembles the camera angles used in Madden games. Some broadcasters (Amazon in particular) use it more heavily than others. As you can see, it gives an on-field perspective you don’t see in regular game highlights.
@vincentdarrah
@vincentdarrah Жыл бұрын
It is interesting to see how the Brits broadcast the game. Apparently they only access one or two cameras. Only have one person in the booth. In American broadcasts they show multiple camera angles. They project a black line for the line of scrimmage and a yellow one for the first down marker. As for why it is called the ORANGE BOWL, that comes from the early days of college football. The first bowl game was in 1902, the Rose Bowl as a way to get people to participate in the "Tournament of Roses" and the next bowl game was the 1916 Rose Bowl. In 1935, three more cities decided to have Bowl games to bring revenue to their city. El Paso, Texas with the Sun Bowl, named after what El Paso was known for, sunshine. New Orleans created the Sugar Bowl that same year, named after their biggest commodity at the time, and Miami, Florida created the Orange Bowl that year, named after Florida's biggest commodity. Now we have so many bowls they are meaningless unless you are a fan of that school. All you have to do is finish with a minimum of 6 wins out of 12 and you will go to a bowl game. It rewards mediocrity in my opinion. In fact, many players who are entering the NFL Draft now refuse to play if it isnt for the college football playoffs because they dont want to risk injury and their draft stock

Traditional post season bowl games used to have just a few games. They’ve since gotten out of hand. The main traditional bowl games were: Orange Bowl - Miami, FL Cotton Bowl - Dallas, TX Sugar Bowl - New Orleans, LA Rose Bowl - Pasadena, CA Now there are dozens of bowl games, but these were the first, all held in warm weather cities. The Rose Bowl is the only one of the original four still played in the Rose Bowl Stadium. That game is preceded on New Year’s Day, or the day after if NYD is a Sunday by the Rose Parade, easily the most impressive parade in America.

That is the skycam that is hooked up to cables hung from the top of the stadium in all 4 corners. There is a skycam operator that moves that camera left, right, forwards, backwards, the entire game to capture great alternative angles. That camera is used on the normal broadcast from time to time to show the details and alternative angle of a play or review. The broadcast you were watching was obviously exclusively just a skycam broadcast, not the main broadcast.

You’re catching on quick! I’ve watched tons of soccer - even coached my girls when they were little and still don’t get it! But you’re right, we have tons of players, coaches and back-ups on the sidelines. We run out 11 different guys at every change of possession and substitute guys for different situations and when they get hurt / gassed. Have coaches and assistant coaches for each position (wide receivers, line backers, special teams), Medical staff, equipment staff. And there’s next year’s recruits, past players, special guests over there. A head coach has so many people under him, and assistant coaches constantly leaving, always recruiting - he’s really like a CEO, and gets paid like it! Impressive that they can coach at a high level - really amazing what Heupel has done in only 2 years at Tennessee. It was a magical season for us and Joe Milton looked good tonight - Hooker was recovering from surgery. And our D showed up big tonight. We have a great new class of incoming commits and a lot of seasoned guys coming back - super excited about next year. There’s no place like Neyland Stadium on a Saturday - you gotta make it over! GBO!!! 🍊🍊🍊

Without reading through the comments to see if it's been explained already: the highlights you are watching were filmed with the "Skycam." It's a camera that runs on wires over the field. This game was broadcast live on multiple channels: The regular broadcast with commentators like you usually see was broadcast on ESPN. ESPN2 had "Skycast" (can tell from bottom left corner) that used this version (Skycam, no announcers, crowd noise) to show the game. I think several games have the option of the "Skycast" through online viewing on ESPN+. Every now and then the Skycast version is also broadcast on television.

Just a little Hard Rock Stadium trivia. The Dolphins shared the Orange Bowl Stadium with The Miami Hurricanes in the early years. The, then, Miami Dolphins owner Joe Robbie built Hard Rock which is just the present name of the stadium; it has had many names. The OBS was an aging all metal stadium. The Miami Hurricanes played in the OBS until it was torn down to build Marlins Ball park for Miami's baseball team. The Joe Robbie Stadium featured orange seats which were a nice match with the Orange Bowl Game but Mr. Robbie built it with a wide pitch to make it suitable for soccer and baseball. When the Marlins moved to their baseball specific stadium, the present owner of the stadium rebuilt the lower bowl with a more football specific arrangement and added a roof that covers most of the fans but not the playing field. An after noon game was very hot and sunny but with chances of tropical downpours. The Hurricanes and Dolphins now share the HRS. Because Hard Rock is not leased from the city or county, the Dolphins pay far more in property taxes than any other NFL team pays on a lease. The name Hard Rock is from the Hard Rock Cafe corporation which is owned by the small Seminole Tribe of Florida which runs a large casino on their land. The Seminoles have an agreement with Florida State University that allow use of the Seminole as a mascot in exchange for free tuition for the tribe's members. Many universities and professional sports have stopped using Native American mascots. But the Seminole Tribe has a good operating strategy using their agreements as advertising.

The earliest bowl game is the Rose Bowl. Bowl games are teams that are invited to play. Since they are played in December & January, they are played at stadiums in warm climates. When I way young, there was the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Peach Bowl, Sun Bowl, Gator Bowl, Orange Bowl. A little later, they added the Liberty Bowl and Holiday Bowl. Good teams are usually given offers to play by several bowls, and each team usually chooses the one with a quality opponent. Today I understand that there are a total of 41 bowl games.

There are bowl games and playoff games for the national championship. First the four (soon to be 12) schools are put into 2 Bowls to play for a chance to get a chance to play in the championship game which is not a bowl game. After that, each conference has a set of agreements with various bowl games filling the remaining bowl matchups.

Post-season college bowl games have been a fixture of American college football for a century. These are always played at a neutral site, and the teams are either invited to play by those operating the bowl games, or the champion of a conference gains an automatic birth in one. For example, the Rose Bowl game in the Los Angeles suburb of Pasadena, California has, traditionally, been between the champions of the Big Ten and Pacific 12 Conferences. The Rose Bowl is the oldest, having first been played in 1902. This has been followed, in turn, by the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana (1935), the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida (1935), the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas (1935), and the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas (1937). By 1950, there were 8 college bowl games, which increased to 11 by 1970, 15 by 1980, 19 games in 1990, 25 in 2000, 35 in 2010, to the current 41 bowl games in 2015. In 1998, the National Championship Game between to two top rated teams was added, which turned into the 4-team College Football Playoff in 2014.

This game was played in Miami Florida which is pretty far South of Knoxville and is considerably warmer in the winter. This angle is filmed with a camera attached to a series of 4 cables which are attached to a special rig on the 4 corners of the stadium. By using motors to add slack or removing slack to these cables in a specific series you can move camera almost anywhere you want at almost any interior elevation within the stadium. This allows the camera to film anywhere. The camera also articulates on a gimble that rotates at least 180° in all directions. All of this is accomplished remotely via radio control and with computer precision.

Yeah im sure someone already pointed this out but this game is played in Miami, FL. So they really don't get winter per say. Also the camera view is a camera that remotely operated on a rope that has the ability to zoom in or drop lower for a closer shot. ESPN uses this view on their regular broadcast when they show a replay of a previous play but for big matchups like this one, they have an alternate channel that people can view if they so choose.

This is the skycast presentation not the regular broadcast one! And imo this is better. For one, the angle lets you see the game from the player’s perspectives and you get the raw noise of the on-field play and crowd. Sometimes with a regular broadcast you feel further away from the action.

Orange Bowl is played in Miami, FL. All bowl games are played at a neutral site every year. Rose Bowl is in Los Angeles, Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Bahamas Bowl in the Bahamas, Citrus Bowl in Orlando, and so on

Those kicks seemed to not have any hook on them. If you notice that the ball is always placed off center on the Dash Marks depending on which side of the field the ball was called dead. Kickers usually have a hook to their kick to curve the ball in otherwise they would need to approach the ball at an odd angle sometimes. That kicker just couldn't really get the ball to hook for him. The first 2 were almost laser straight.

You are right about running the ball at the end. Close to the end of the when you are ahead, you want to run the ball more. The clock does not stop when a runner is tackled. If you step out of bounds or throw an incomplete pass, it stops the clock. If you move the ball by a pass, the clock will also stop until the ref puts it down on the field. You still have to pass it every once in a while. The defense will adjust to stop the run. If you pass it every once in a while, it forces the defense to spread out. It really is a game of smarts. Not just brute force.

Both the running game and passing game are really important. If you can't run the ball, it forces you to pass more, and the defense will play more passing defense. It is almost like a game of chess. If one part of your offense or defense isn't working, it can mess up your whole game.

It really is a chess game. A lot of people don't realize that. Why so much can determine the outcomes. Fans, coaching, momentum, individual players, all can effect the game.

I love the sky cast. It’s closer to the quarterback/ running back point of view. Probably better for football nerds then just typical fans

If you want to make it to a Tennessee home game, just reach-out to any Vols fans commenting on your videos-most here would be more than glad to get you & your travel party tickets to a game. Single-game tickets usually go on sale in July and sell-out very quickly for the best matches & rivalries. The atmosphere at Neyland Stadium is very different if it’s a game against teams like ‘Bama, Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina than some smaller programs the Vols will often play. But, the experience is the best in American sports, for sure! Hope you’re able to make it to a game-it’s great to see international fans grow to love the Vols, too!

If you look at the highlight video you will see SKYCAST. This is one of 3 different broadcasts of the game. You are correcct that the SKYCAM is teathered and operates via lines strung above the field.

At 16:35 about running vs passing, you are correct but for the wrong reason. When a team had the lead later in the game, a lot of the play calling is centered around keeping the clock running. Running plays keep the clock running while incomplete passing plays will stop the clock. So rather than risk stopping the clock, the team in the lead will run the ball

At one time, bowl games were named after regional products or regional commodities. Florida grows oranges thus the name Orang Bowl. Other examples are the Rose Bowl in California, they grow 60% of roses in the country, and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, because of the sugar cane grown in Louisiana. However, big corporate sponsorships have changed that somewhat over the years, they give big money to have their names on these bowl games.

Honestly man, you should try and go to a Tennessee game one day. If you go in the fall you can make it a proper vacation and go to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park while you are there. It's about 45 minutes outside of Knoxville and it is gorgeous that time of year, and Nashville is only a 3 hour drive from there so that's a really fun American city to visit.
