Check out this extraordinary footage from 1930 of Japanese Prince Takamatsu (brother of Emperor Shōwa) and his wife, Princess Kikuko, on a honeymoon visit to Britain to meet with King George V and Queen Mary of Teck. The couple are initially greeted, however, by Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI), Princess Mary (later Princess Royal) and Prince George (Duke of Kent).

Full title reads: "London. 'Banzai!' Britain welcomes our Royal visitors from Japan - Prince Takamatsu and his charming bride - on state visit to King and Queen."
Dover Docks, Kent.
Prince Takamatsu (Brother of the Emperor of Japan) and his wife come down the gangplank of a docked ship. The Prince inspects a Guard of Honour. The Princess follows her husband as they walk from the inspection area. (The voiceover suggests that Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester was there to greet them).
Victoria Station, London.
The Prince and Princess leave their train and are greeted on the platform by Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI), Princess Mary (later Princess Royal) and Prince George (Duke of Kent).
Various shots of the carriage bearing the Royal couple through the streets of London. They are escorted by cavalry troops. Crowds line the route. The coaches drive through the gates of Buckingham Palace.
N.B. The voiceover suggests that this was a honeymoon trip for the Japanese couple.
BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.
British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984. All footage can be viewed on the British Pathé website. www.britishpat...

Zen Zeno 2011 Right, cuz there was no independent nation left other than japan back then. Almost all Asia, Africa, Middle East, Central and South America were “owned” by countries of white people. And sure enough their domestic laws set racial orders and discrimination was a norm. USA was a good(bad?) example. Now let me ask you if you would expect fairness and equality of, say, gender preached in public by a wife-beater at home? Japan was trying to convince Chinese dynasty back then to modernize and stand together but they weren’t interested into anything but self enrichment. 西太后would be a prime example. That led to Sino-Japan war in late 1800s. Japan won the war and the first line of peace treaty was, interesting enough, that China will acknowledge Korea being independent sovereign nation not an 朝貢国. Similarly to Korea Japan has been working on them to modernize to become stronger and stand along but they just weren’t willing to take any words from those who the viewed “lower” according to 儒学, and after this and that, 閔妃, 高宗’s wife tried to bring in Russia military into their country to fend off any influence and pressure from Japan. That led to Russo-Japanese war in early 1900’s...and also Japan giving up on working on them to modernize themselves but to take them in to be modernized. ...now those are the back ground of the time League of Nations was established. Japan was surrounded by imperial superpowers who see Asian lesser being or half-animals and Japan was the only nation that got strong enough to (barely but) keep up with other independent nations. Would you reasonably believe that racial equality was just what they wanted on paper? Back then, racial prejudice and discrimination was a norm and right..and legal.

@@adolfasramanauskas6780 quick warning if for when you get into the Pacific front, unlike other fronts whos history and background can be traced back a couple of decades to the end WW1, the Pacific goes back to the 1800s. You can obviously go in and enjoy/learn about specific things or sum things up to "Japan invaded China for land and power" but if you want to dive deep into it, you will need to go back to the Century of Humiliation and the Meiji Restoration. Those 2 events would ultimately decide the path both China and Japan would follow and cause a domino effect ending with the Soviet invasion of Manchuria and the Nukings. Also the Pacific front is massive, spanning from the Jungles of Burma to the fields of China, the Sands of Hawaii to the Snows of Alaska. (for scale, the Philippines alone is about the same size as the Eastern Front of WW2) Logistics plays a huge role as well as politics. Almost everything in the Pacific War was dictated by political and logistical reasons whether that be Pearl Harbor, the invasion of China, the border skirmishes against the USSR, the intense interservice rivalry of the IJN and IJA, the Bushido code and much much more.

One reason why is because in the UK, the monarch is still the "commander-in-chief" of the armed forces and in return, the British Armed Forces make an oath to the monarch. Also, many members of the British royal family are often times made Colonel-in-Chiefs of military regiments in the Commonwealth and as such may wear their uniforms. It's not the same in Japan, the emperor doesn't have a ceremonial role in the current day JSDF nor do the JSDF make an oath to the emperor.

in the 1930s, Japan was already on an ambitious mission of expanding its borders. China was already a potential victim of Japanese expansionism. But it wasn't until Japan's attack on the American naval base of Pearl Harbour did the Western allies declare war on Japan.

@@ぶた肥満 I recommend explaining why you disagree instead of saying study again. I am well aware of my history. The original commenter is incorrect about the timetable. West powers were forced out of Asia but were only not openly at war because Europe had bigger fish to fry. The imperial Japanese did not expect the U.S. to react so violently to them attacking Pearl Harbor. They miscalculated. Hawaii is part of the U.S. and the U.S. patriots will fight to the bitter end to protect their people.

They didn't have kids, which is a shame, since this couple have good features. Instead his older brother Hirohito went on to have kids which would become the royals after Hirohito. Hirohito carried obviously similar genes to his brother here (and being both born from Taisho), so both had pretty decent features. However it's probably considered blasphemy in Japan to say this, but Hirohito's wife was blatantly unattractive and looked like a Korean or something. And thus the features deteriorated in Hirohito's child Akihito. Akihito at least didn't hook up with a woman as unattractive as his mother however, and hooked up with Michiko who blatantly was way better looking than his mother. Now we have Naruhito who looks a lot like Akihito (which isn't exactly good), then the brother Fumihito who has a slightly better appearance and carries more of the Hirohito and Taisho type DNA. Fumihito's wife also is attractive, Kiko. As a result Fumihito and Kiko produced a pretty good looking daughter and an ok looking other daughter, the son Hisahito will improve as he grows up, as his moustache grows out he probably will look quite like his father Fumihito, which is an decent enough result. However the other brother of Akihito, who is the current Emperor, Naruhito. His child is blatantly unattractive, it's not surprising as Naruhito himself has worse features than his brother, and Naruhito's wife is also Masako is only slightly above average, so the result of the pretty bad looking daughter they have isn't unexpected. Other members that have good traits are princess Tsuguko, princess Takamado (mother of Tsuguko), Prince Katsura. On that side there are no boys anymore, so it's all up to the Akihito line to continue the Y chromosome lineage of all the ancient emperors. Preferably the boy prince Hisahito, has to get an attractive wife and have a lot of kids with her, preferably boys. They really haven't done a very good job at planning any of this out, princess Tsuguko is just sitting there doing nothing and she is getting older and will probably lose the ability to breed soon and her good traits will be lost. If I was the head of the royals, I would try to get princess Tsuguko to hook up with a handsome man who is a Japanese upper class person, and have them make babies quickly. Obviously she will no longer be a princess if she marries a non royal, however it's likely she produces a daughter with such a man, and that daughter would retain her features to some degree and be raised up for a possible partner for Hisahito. I mean you have to make some effort at least to try to select for good traits, because what happens if this Hisahito kid in a few years time chooses a wife that is as bad looking as his grandmother? And while there are many attractive Japanese women in society in general, apparently this boy will only be allowed to choose a woman who is from an upper class family, one that goes back in the old lineage system of clans basically. So it means basically a daughter of an upper class Japanese aristocrat.

I prefer the genetics of Emperor Meiji, a big mustache and a voluminous beard, it gives the impression of a wise and grandiose man, it is no wonder that his reign was marked by the great Japanese victories and conquests in addition to the great economic, industrial and military growth, I like Emperor Taishō and Hirohito's style, but I prefer Meiji's style I don't know why...

@@riventv4927 The Japanese literally made games of how many Chinese men and women they could behead in a row, and how many babies they could skewer on their bayonets. If you think the British were ANYWHERE near that ruthless, not only would you be delusional, but also wouldn't make any sense. Considering if that was the case barely any Indians would exist after 200 years of British rule.
