Each time I find a version of one of her songs with less autotune, or rearrangements, or backgrounds vocals, I find it better than the originals. Here, the background vocals should've been more subtle. Her voice is very nice.

They could’ve added subtle background vocals to polish the song but not near as many as they did in the original

Max Martin did it for the sound To make it sound "new" for back in the day... also gives the song a sensation of "Pop Chorus" Martin probably wanted to add. It goes with the song great, tho! I don't know if i explained myself alright LOL

It does sound lovely, but i'm afraid that i must disagree. I think the background vocals is what made the song sound so epic, i can definitely recommend listening to a video isolating them.
